  1. there is an article on the cubs website that says that we would lose our second round pick and sandwich picks to the nationals. Not sure if that includes the one we get back from the dodgers. But about that, the compensation rules are different this year. I think Pierre was a type "b" free agent and I'm not sure if we get a pick back from that. Beyond that, we re-signed all of the free agents that could have left. So I'm not sure what happens now. They changed the collective bargaining agreement and now I cant remember whats what. .
  2. yeah, I get rapada but rocky cherry? thats an interesting move.
  3. call me crazy but I think pierre will bounce back next year. But in no way do I want him on our team. I think the warm weather will let him get in a groove earlier. too bad his arm is going to be a joke in dodger stadium. He might need five cut off men on a deep fly to center.
  4. I thought eyre's limited no trade clause was mearly a list of four or five teams he would never go to. If thats the case he's still very tradeable assuming two out of the five are KC and Tampa Bay.
  5. I've got to believe that all of this Floyd talk is due to jIm's past interest in him. But even if he is currently interested in Floyd we probably won't get him. Chances are he'll be a starter somewhere. Could Dh for the twins or play left for the Padres that's two openings just off the top of my head.
  6. Oh I agree that offense would be disgusting. But we'd be covering our eyes every half-inning. In actuality it would be really interesting to watch. As far as our defense being the best maybe thats only in terms of errors. I know that pierre had zero, murton had 3, and jones had seven. That of course didn't count jones' worm burners, pierres weak arm and murtons occaisonal misreads.
  7. he played short almost the entire time in AAA. He also played it a couple time in the majors. to me he looked like he didn't quite have the arm for it. Which is a shame because Izturis proabably needs to go.
  8. an outfield of manny, murton, and soriano would be terrible defensively.
  9. I'd put pie in center if we could somehow upgrade at short. But I don't see it happening. Lugo is the only free agent ss worth looking at. There isn't a surplus of shortstops on any team either so I really cant see a trade. maybe the braves trade renteria for salary room but I doubt it. tampa bay has Zorbist and Brignac but good luck prying either away. I think pie will be in AAA to start the year again. The thing is that if jones is really going to be in Center we will be seeing some circuitous routes from all three outfielders. Though the arm strength will be an upgrade over pierre, even if Jaque does throw a worm burner here and there.
  10. signing stop gaps is how we got into this mess in the first place. We should have gone hard after beltran, instead we got burnitz. Furcal, we got pierre. And now we have to over pay to get better. its what bad teams do.
  11. I didn't see anyone comment on it and maybe it isn't valid because I have no idea what EqA is but Soriano has almost twice as many total bases as lugo on average. Since soriano gets on base less that means when he does get on base is he in scoring position a hell of a lot more. Look what ryan zimmerman did batting third all year. Everyone thought that he would be good but 110 rbi's as a rookie thats 30-40 more rbis than expected. But that is what soriano can do to a line up. His presence puts pressure on the pitcher and the defense. If Zimmerman can do that imagine what Lee and Aram could do with him at the top of the order.
  12. I agree I'd take Lugo at short over izturis any day.
  13. Rob- how can you assume that Matsuzaka will be more productive, no one knows how he will adjust. Also predicting anything about DL Drew is harldy a science even with a couple of healthy years under his belt.
  14. Look at total bases, when lugo is on base he is not in scoring position as nearly as often as soriano.
  15. doesn't that analysis fail to take into account what soriano does for the rest of the line up?
  16. sorry man I liked lugo too but this was the right move.
  17. plus marquis is only 28, i believe. hes got youth on his side
  18. nevermind this 'blogger' has izturis batting second in his revamped lineup
  19. If that bolg is correct about the zito thing and the mention that Drew is going to accept a contract with the cubs for 3/45 than this is a monumental day for the cubs. bring on the pitching.
  20. 20 million left, thats alot to work with especially considering we have some talent to trade. Nice, I like. About jones in centerfield, is everyone confident that he has the range to perform there? When is the last time he has played there? My feeling is that Jones' defense is a bit overrated. He doesn't seem to get the best jump on the ball. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to throwing , and the bone chips. But I'm not sure he'll be able to play there. My preference would probably be to trade him for pitching and subsequently make a trade for wells or crisp or play just pie. An outfield of murton and soriano needs a defensive anchor in center.
  21. so after Soriano how much payroll is left assuming it goes up to 120 mil? I lost track after all the signings this week.
  22. you're right I guess cameron's sb % isn't that bad but he does have a couple of seasons when he K'd three times more than he walked. BUt in general I think that Pie has similar tools. Not that its a bad thing, cameron is a really good player. But Pie has so much hype that people act like he is a franshise type player, which he could be with improvement, but he still quite a ways away. Anyways I'd really like some progress in the walk dept.
  23. Right now Felix Pie=Mike Cameron bad stolen base % tons of K's / not too many walks some good power Great defense and a cannon arm
  24. with the wya eyre has been used the last couple years he seems bound to wind up on the dl. He'd be good trade bait prior to the season though.
  25. I like westbrook's consistency. This is a quote from his mlb 2006 highlights.
