    I think it would be fair to blame Pierre much more than Cedeno and Murton for not showing up. Jeez, this guy has started every game, every single time in the leadoff spot. And his numbers are horrendous: AVG OBP SLG OPS .231 .268 .286 .554 .268 in the lead off spot? Dusty should be shot just for keeping that there to keep the team languishing.

Explain to me how a pitcher who goes out there and posts up 7 shut out innings and gets a no decision doesn't get recognized for his performance, but Mark Buehrle can give up 7 runs in the 1st and still win his game. Its a pretty lame stat. Maybe the lamest of all. I think quality starts should be the determining factor, along with ERA, K/9 and BB/9 He was making a joke about how the cubs dont win. I get it, I just thought he was a rival fan or something. Forget it.

Prior might be back by week 3 in June if we're lucky, and as good as Lee is, surrounded by the likes of Neifi, Jones, Hairston and Pierre it doesn't look promising. I would be incredibly surprised if any of those 3 are on the roster next year.

I saw an interview with some 'Burgh fans right before the Superbowl, and when asked why they weren't more passionate Pirate fans one of them replied: "What is the date?" The reporter, confused, said February 2nd. "February 2nd? On February 2nd the Pirates are already 20 games back"

I have no sympathy for you. Just shut up, and stop trying to make BB look good. Are you really trying to get run from your adopted hometown? Keep talking like this, and your father may not even be able to save you. Baseball is a clubhouse...when you know some people personally, you make ties and strong friendships. Its only natural he tries to defend his friend. Its not like he's going out of his way, he gets swarmed by reporters all the time. I like Ken Griffey. :oops: But I don't like Barry.

    Had no idea....good point. Knowing that, I think he'd be better off being limited to the number of innings he can throw his last 8-10 outings instead of just shutting him down in August. Thats unsettling... Looks like we're gonna ruin another great pitching prospect :x

    Those guys can't do any worse than the players we have been sending out for the last month. Don't say that, you and I both know that they can, and will.

    Theres something strange in seeing a complete stud pitcher like Smoltz up against some newbie the Cubs are trotting out in hopes of winning the lottery. Its strange and sad.

    We both agree that Pierre has to get on base more, but as far as Youkilis goes, he was shoved into the position of being a leadoff hitter when Crisp went down and other than striking out too often and having little speed, he's done exactly what's been asked of him. As far as Ortiz and Manny are concerned, neither of them are setting the world on fire right now. Manny has been pretty much equivalent to our own A Ramirez and although Ortiz has plenty of RBI's which is great, his average isn't where it should be either. I think the interesting thing is that these two things don't really matter that much. While scouts and coaches may prefer to see outs recorded when the ball is put into play (for whatever reason), its really strike outs swinging that should bother scouts. Taking marginal pitches and being called out on strikes isn't the worst thing in the world. Stealing and speed on the basepaths is so unimportant compared to OBP, it almost makes me scream.

I don't, just having pipe dreams. I'm not actually proposing anything, I'm just saying, destroy the conventional thinking. Speed is far overrated, and fat guys hitting homers and walking...well...aren't. obviously, speed's not useful when you don't hit. pierre was a.355 obp guy before this year. then he became a cub and the rest is history. :x Other than the .326 year he put up last year with the Marlins. 14 steals and only 24 runs, c'mon now. There is some truth in the "load 'em up, and wait for the 3 run homer." Its certainly more successful then what we're doing right now. We've effectively purged any home run hitting from our lineup, so wheres our success with our speedy team? :lol:

Propose to one of the old timers a slow lead off man and they'll blow it off in one second. Unfortunately (for Cubs fans) he's proving them wrong easily enough.
