  1. Just because multiple people living together get it doesn't mean its a communicable disease.
  2. While it's obvious that you're being sarcastic, there are some on this board who lack the ability to detect sarcasm. Initially, those people will respond harshly to your post. Then, embarassed that they didn't immediately recognize that you weren't serious, they will criticize you for not using a smiley to indicate your lack of sincerity. In coming days, you will be told that your "sarcasm act" is getting old. Eventually your loyalty to the Cubs will be questioned, probably by a poster who lacks grammatical skills and whose screenname is a combination of a rather generic word and a number. Finally, there will be a call for you to take an "absolute psychological test" to prove you can handle the pressures of posting despite your track record that shows you excel at such an activity. Be careful. Usually I refrain from using one smiley to respond to a post. But I believe this is appropriate:
  3. Thank you! If Bonds was on the Cubs, people on this site would have such a diffrent attitude on Barry. If you support Sosa especially, then how could you hate Bonds? Ludacris. Best hitter of our generation, people. Big difference between Sosa and Bonds. First off, Sosa's not breaking any records. Second, and most importantly, Sosa is a suspected cheater, while Bonds is a known cheater. Bonds is heralded as the greatest hitter of our generation because of what he has done from 2001 and forward. That's going back to when he was 36. The 4 greatest offensive seasons of his career occured after he turned 36. He was outstanding before that, but nothing he did in his prime was ever considered Ruthian. It's been everything he did after he started juicing in 99 or 2000. I'll give you that nothing he did before 98 was ever considered Ruthian. But Bonds was the greatest player of our generation before steroids and the steriods issue makes people forget about this. If Bonds wouldn't have taken steroids, he would have been a first ballot HOFer anyway. The guy was the quintessiential five tool player. He would have ended up with over 500 HR's and over 500 SB's. He wouldn't have 715 career HR's but make no mistake about it, Bonds was a great player without steroids. Also, I read Howard Bryant's "Juicing The Game" a couple months ago and there was a line that went something like "steroids turn a average player into a good player and a good player into a great player. But who knows what they would do to a great player." Well, I think we know and Bonds is the example. No one is denying that he would have been first ballot steroids or not, but he definitely would not be knocking on Hank Aaron's door without steroids. Something is sketchy when the next available player's Runs Created are almost HALF what yours are.
  4. GAH! OBP is probably the most important stat in a hitter. Why is there such antagonism towards the walk!? I'm sure if there was a guy who could run and walk, we'd all be happy. Well there are some, but they just cost a lot.
  5. At least our players look better. Actually, at first glance, Woody looks kind of whitetrashy. I could see him out in the front yard of the trailer, sitting on a couch, cap turned backwards with a sleevless T on sluggin back a Old Mil. The goatee, or whatever that is, also adds to the look. White trashy or not, he doesn't look like he's about to succumb to scurvy or something.
  6. Isn't there speculation that Maris and his contemporaries were on amphetamines? Players have been skirting the rules since the rules were made, I don't really see the point in getting so upset at Bonds, and I don't like him one bit. Where did I say I was upset with Bonds? They guy I'm most upset with is Bud Selig for turning a blind eye to the problem. And since when do amphetamines give you a boost in power. They make your more alert and hyper but don't give you more strength to turn flyballs into homeruns. I suppose if you want to take it to extremes you could argue somehow hotdogs and beer gave Ruth an unfair advantage. Its not unfair because hot dogs and beer are available to all and legal.
  7. GAH! OBP is probably the most important stat in a hitter. Why is there such antagonism towards the walk!?
  8. The irony here is that much of his Runs Created comes from the fact that people are so afraid of pitching to him that they walk him so damn much. All the walks hurt more than the possibility of a home run.
  9. Par for the course, my friend. Par for the course. Actually, lately it's been a combination of bad pitching and bad hitting that's done the Cubs in. The pitching was pretty good today, all things considered. Marshall got himself into and out of a few jams, Howry did really well, and Eyre shut down the Braves. The offense, on the other hand? Blah. You just watch, tomorrow we'll put up 8 and lose by 7 runs. Good call. Gah! How many weeks' worth of runs did we use up today (in a loss no less)?
  10. Can you call a ball that never touched a player's glove "dropped"? I mean, we are arguing semantics here, but I don't think that should even qualify as a dropped ball.
  11. That's two creative losses in three days. Did we just get swept in a series and only get outscored by 3? Amazing.
  12. The Yankees and the Red Sox. Nobdoy else plays in it.
  13. My bad, he's still started every day, no lower than the 2 hole. If you are gonna play the SOB, put him in the 8-hole where he belongs.
  14. Remember in the thread "Cubs kids bring Cubs to the toilet" that we started talking about the Marlins? This is officially the point where I'd trade the Cubs for the Marlins franchise.
  15. Agreed. I'm almost as impressed with that play as I am with ohw dissapointed I can be with a team.
  16. I think it would be fair to blame Pierre much more than Cedeno and Murton for not showing up. Jeez, this guy has started every game, every single time in the leadoff spot. And his numbers are horrendous: AVG OBP SLG OPS .231 .268 .286 .554 .268 in the lead off spot? Dusty should be shot just for keeping that there to keep the team languishing.
  17. Spoken like a true Cub fan. huh? Explain to me how a pitcher who goes out there and posts up 7 shut out innings and gets a no decision doesn't get recognized for his performance, but Mark Buehrle can give up 7 runs in the 1st and still win his game. Its a pretty lame stat. Maybe the lamest of all. I think quality starts should be the determining factor, along with ERA, K/9 and BB/9 He was making a joke about how the cubs dont win. I get it, I just thought he was a rival fan or something. Forget it.
  18. "He rallied the team to 73 wins from a poor start" "Imagine if the Cardinals lost Pujols, Mulder, and Carpenter? Dusty's done an unbelievable job with this team-they never lost faith, stayed together throughout the rough stretch and rallied to 73 victories. This gives us a lot to look forward to next year, when we'll have Woody for a whole year, Prior will be back from his surgery after week three, and Derrek will be here for the full year. For that, Dusty has done nothing short of an amazing job and I'm proud to announce his three year, $15 million deal." Except I don't believe Wood will be back. Prior might be back by week 3 in June if we're lucky, and as good as Lee is, surrounded by the likes of Neifi, Jones, Hairston and Pierre it doesn't look promising. I would be incredibly surprised if any of those 3 are on the roster next year.

  21. You won't pass us. We're determined to put Randa back in the line up and replace Sanchez, who, for lack of 14 ABs, would be the second best hitter in the NL. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06146/693312-63.stm Lloyd used to say the players make the lineups. This obviously isn't the case under the new regieme. Your sad team makes Zach Duke cry. I saw an interview with some 'Burgh fans right before the Superbowl, and when asked why they weren't more passionate Pirate fans one of them replied: "What is the date?" The reporter, confused, said February 2nd. "February 2nd? On February 2nd the Pirates are already 20 games back"
  22. Gah! This can't end well.
  23. You make $9 Million per year. You asked for the attention in playing ball. You know more than just about anyone else what living like this is like because of your father. I have no sympathy for you. Just shut up, and stop trying to make BB look good. Are you really trying to get run from your adopted hometown? Keep talking like this, and your father may not even be able to save you. Baseball is a clubhouse...when you know some people personally, you make ties and strong friendships. Its only natural he tries to defend his friend. Its not like he's going out of his way, he gets swarmed by reporters all the time. I like Ken Griffey. But I don't like Barry.
  24. Wow, sounds like one helluva game.
