  1. I'm trying to slowly get into hockey, especially now that the Hawks are by far the best team in the city and that game really really sold me on it
  2. Yesssss I want to see this team lose 90+ games
  3. Agreed with whoever said "If the Bears are good then they will win games, schedule be damned" and I also agree with whoever said "Who cares how many games we win, just want to see Cutler do well in 2nd year" This roster aint gonna win any championships so we need the key role players to make strides. Hope we can make another Super Bowl run before Urlacher is too old to contribute
  4. I think they at least make the finals. The Magis were a problem for them when they had Hedo. Now that they don't have that mismatch in their advantage I think Cleveland beats them. Ah yes, Hedo who has torn it up with the Raptors this year. And Vince Carter who's done nothing at all for the Magic. They are even better than they were last year, fear the Magic. They also have a healthy and effective Jameer Nelson who wasn't at their disposal last ECF
  5. I'm not ashamed to say that I don't follow baseball as closely as I have in the past, partly because of the Cubs declining and partly because I don't play fantasy baseball anymore. I'll say this, Wandy Rodriguez might be one of the least impressive effective pitchers there are. He definitely doesn't pass the "eye-test." Everytime we play him it seems like we miss fastballs, swing at crap all over the place and ground out a whole lot. Anecdotal, worthless, completely goes against my statistically minded self, but these are my impressions. Billy Beane would have fired me years ago. So [expletive] you Wandy Rodriguez you ugly baby faced horrible person Also why would I pay close attention to the Astros anyway? They ceased to be interesting after Ed Wade took the helm, shipped off all their worthwhile prospects and signed aging has-been's to ridiculous contracts OH crap thats pretty much the same story of Jim Hendry
  6. :-k hmmm I...I just don't know about that, Peter
  7. The Cardinals won another ridiculously stupid game They should have been swept by the Mets and end up winning it, in completely anti-Cubs fashion
  8. Milwaukee's pitching is bad bad, they almost lost a game today when they had a 10 run lead in the first. They've only had one game where their pitching has given up less than 5 runs, its almost incredible. Even with a good offense I can't see them being that great. Cincy is a question mark, they have some really nice pieces and some really questionable players. Also everything is managed by Dusty Baker. They could be better than us, certainly not out of the question, but who knows.
  9. No, not 2 seasons later. Some guys are definitely regressing, but that's due mostly to age and injuries. If you're arguing that their window is closing or is closed due to that, I'm with you. If you're saying it's basically due to being bummed over the playoffs in 2008, that's a stretch. Well I don't think that is the sole reason, but I do think it is some of it. The window is rapidly closing, being slammed shut since St. Louis never has to rebuild. Why would they be "hungover" still in 2010 but they weren't "hungover" in 2008 from 2007? Stop picking at the low-hanging fruit, he has other legitimate points other than the throwaway 'hangover' comment
  10. The half season of Ramirez hurts, Byrd will play approximately as well as Bradley (less on base but more slugging, given his career numbers) but I'm not convinced we'll get anything better out of Zambrano or Harden's replacement(s) or even Soto this year So whats the big difference between this year and last year? Less Bobby Scales? Ok, peg us for a few extra wins on top of the 83 mark then Then go ahead and subtract a few more for a slightly worse bullpen and a month less of Lilly
  11. I seriously just think that it's time to break the core of this team up. I think a lot of damage was done to the team's psyche after getting swept in '08 and this group has done as much as it's going to. Wait, really? Their "team psyche was damaged?" Come on, man. They're not delicate little flowers. I've said myself I have no problem moving key players off of this team by the deadline if they're 5+ games out of it in July, but to think that it needs to happen because of a playoff sweep 2 years ago? If a Cubs team is "damaged" by big losses then you're probably going to be blowing up the team every season. You really don't think that after steam rolling the national league like they did only to have it all come crashing down on them at once had any hangover effect? Also I know your stance on trading guys off, I am just saying what I think, this group has reached its peak and it's now regressing. Not to beat a dead horse here but we're 2 years removed from that 2008 team. All the major players on that team are either entering their mid-30's or gone. The sole exception is Soto, and while I cannot possibly guess whether he'll return to his ROY self or replicate his 2009 season, it may not even matter. In many ways this team is just an older version of the 2009 season, with perhaps a marginal upgrade in Byrd and downgrade in our bullpen. That 2009 team wasn't over or underplaying their abilities, they just were what they were.
  12. I don't know about the word 'panic' this team is just not very good
  13. Hit a home run you beautiful big butt-ed savior
  14. No dude, you aren't getting it. We aren't in passionate rage, like when we would drop a game in 2008 or 2009, this is cold, detached bemusement It is the final end to the grieving process
  15. The team was doing fine today until Lou decided to be an [expletive]. They scored 2 runs against Wandy Rodriguez :-k
  16. I think they are easily worse than last years
  17. Pedro Feliz may yet save the day Please GIDP Feliz, you know you want to
  18. I agree with whatever poster said something to the effect of : "These games used to kill me" Yeah, I agree this team is playing just as infuriatingly poorly as they did last year, but now I'm so emotionally disconnected it doesn't bother me as much Go, bumble around, let terrible players beat you, it doesn't matter anymore.
  19. Yeah the Koyie Hill doesn't make much sense to me
  20. Just popping in to say that the Astros are the team I least like watching the Cubs face, and Wandy Rodriguez and Geoff Blum the most potent combination to piss off Cubs fans everywhere
  21. Wow, I kick ass, I was just kidding with the Marmol joke and I can't even watch the game but yep Lou is a parody of himself
  22. Its gonna be Marmol because Lou is stupid
  23. Already I'm impressed with Byrd, I was expecting something on the order of .270-.330-.450 and even though its just a start he's playing very well (defense...sometimes notwithstanding but it'll improve) With a rejuvenated Soto and a healthy Ramirez and Lee staying ageless and the Fontenot-Baker platoon working anything we get from Soriano is a cherry on top basically The rotation (I know they've played well but its still got Carlos Silva and Gorzellany in it, and of course Zambrano crapping the bed everywhere) and bullpen are still iffy though
