  1. Go for it Don't punt Just go for it
  2. I'm getting that feeling again we're gonna stall on the Lions 40 aren't we
  3. Hey, get the first down, then score points and I don't agree that the Bears look as bad as the Lions (oddly since they are trailing), the defense has looked way better than my low expectations had for them, and the offense is moving the ball but frustratingly not scoring
  4. I feel like I haven't seen a single punt return that didn't have a block in the back...can they do nothing to control this? Seriously I'd rather see the returner hung out to dry each time than see this happene very time That pisses me off more than most of these things. Fumbles happen...there isn't much coaching you can do to stop that from happening other than stressing correct ball handling
  5. Forte definitely looks faster this year
  6. have you ever watched the Bears? Its our worst enemy
  7. aahahahahahahah the Lions are even worse than we are but we just keep turning it over
  8. I don't see a way for the Lions to not score here This game is a disaster
  9. fumble number 5 woot
  10. Jay Cutler rules I can't believe that Detroit player just kinda watched him take that for a first down
  11. the defense gets ANOTHER three and out, GET THEM SOME POINTS THEY DESERVE IT
  12. How many times can you get the ball to the opponent's 35 yard line and not score? I think we're pushing 4 times now
  13. I still refuse to believe BABIP is all luck. You're telling me a pitcher has no control of the ball once it hits the bat? I don't get that. the best way to explain it is how Bill James (I think it was him) explained it when people started saying this: (paraphrased) ' Obviously pitchers have some degree of control over whether a batted ball drops for a hit, but its much much less than what we thought it was ' pitchers have a lot of control over whether a ball is hit in the air, hit on the ground or popped up. each of those outcomes have their own degree of chance in whether or not the ball is a hit or not. the reason why i tend to believe pitchers have a low amount of control over their BABIP is because it tends to fluctuate wildly season to season with the same pitchers, while other metrics (strike outs, walks, home runs given up) tend to stay more constant. even amazing pitchers have bad BABIP years.
  14. i'm just furious a team that gives significant playing time to the corpses of juan pierre, mark kotsay and omar vizquel is still 'in contention' you should be barred from the game of baseball for doing that
  15. Ugh not like I needed anymore reason to hate LaRussa and the Cardinals
  16. Actually its turning out to be really bad MLB wide: The Yankees won and the Rays are trailing The Twins lost even though they wont lose any ground. The Cardinals won and the Reds are losing 4-0 right now These are bad things
  17. The playcalling is...curious. 2nd and goal on the 12, dial up a dive play... 3rd and goal from the 10 and they run a QB sneak? What?
  18. really? because a-rod's admitted it and no one seems to give him any sympathy, in fact people have never liked him and its always mystified me not like i care if these guys took steroids or not anyway
  19. just checked in since half, forgot the game was going. team looks really [expletive] bad but its just the back ups now i suppose i checked the play by play and it looks like i missed a bunch of frustrating play anyway so good that i missed it, i can always check the highlights for the forte run team is uninspiring at best, absolutely abhorrent at worst, this is gonna be a fun season
  20. They make some nice chain saws though. on the other hand the twins aren't spending this new payroll super wisely (other than the most-obvious-resigning-of-the-century in mauer which i guess they wouldn't have made previously) bill smith is slowly but surely gutting the young talent for bad players, making bad trade after bad trade and now their pitching, which surely should have been a strong point when looking from a vantage point 2-3 years ago to today, is really bad bill smith- bad gm
  21. yeah but he has a crapload more power on the left side edit that was a cursory glance at the total home run numbers while neglecting smaple size, he is a stronger hitter as a lefty but not overwhelmingly so
  22. COMPLETELY ANECDOTAL: i was watching a game recently, think it was in the giants series (and this is remarkable because i really have avoided cubs games in the last 2-3 months) and Lee with 2 strikes reached out and and flailed around a breaking ball to strike out. I had never seen him do that. Sure i had seen him be a little tardy on a fastball, or go over the top of a breaking ball, or be in front of a change up before. I had never seen him full out, Soriano-style, flail at a ball down and away that was completely unhittable. I think thats the proper coda on his career.
  23. honestly, i'm not too worried about it. i'm sure the 1996 bulls will be popping those champagne bottles somewhere around halfway through this season
  24. I felt like whatever we did as long as he got consistent at bats it was fine. Basically even if he was hitting <.250 but still getting a chance to work stuff out he'd be ok, but its not like his development is far from over. I would not be surprised to see his struggle more in the next few years especially if he has some BABIP problems. As long as we don't tug him around and bench him and overall treat him like a piece of meat like we did with Felix Pie and we'll be OK.
