  1. Not that I want to disagree with the group think going on here that DeJesus is better than Teahen, but it should be pointed out that DeJesus is not younger. In fact, he is actually almost 2 years older than Teahen. Yeah, I was referring to Lou (or Hendry?) that insinuated earlier that the team needed to get younger and more athletic as a whole, not a comparison of the two players.
  2. Does this mean DeJesus is expendable? I'd much rather have him than Teahen. He's a younger more athletic LH bat...
  3. Why? He had an ERA+ of 117 in 180 IP last year. If he's the only move, and we lose Dempster, then perhaps it's a step backwards. But he's definitely worth the one year 8-10 million dollars he's going to demand and I feel like he would be added in addition to another SP.
  4. I'd like RJ for a one year deal whether we get Peavy or not. I really want no part of resigning Dempster, I have little faith that he'd be worth it next year, much less 4 or 5 years down the road. Peavy/RJ or RJ/Lowe or Burnett (I'm assuming the Yankees won't sign both along with CC) So it'd be either: Peavy/Zambrano/RJ/Harden/Lilly or Z/Harden/RJ/Lowe or Burnett/Lilly Either one of those rotations would easily be the best in the majors. Trade for Hermida and call it an offseason.
  5. What's the purpose of this, that we're not supposed to pay closer's 10 million per year? Glad we dodged that bullet.
  6. Thanks for the info Bruce! Well, so much for getting any work done now....
  7. Well he did get shelled when he came back, but it wasn't because of walks. I'm not saying that it should make any difference, just that walks seem to be the only thing that really pisses Lou the hell off regarding relievers. I guess he could "be in the doghouse" for hurting himself while drunk. Although, I suspect that Lou has probably done some stupid things drunk before. Maybe I missed some comments or statements from Lou, but this notion that he may not ever pitch again for us is news to me.
  8. True, but Gaudin could fill that role nicely if need be. If two injuries were to strike however, we may be in trouble. What are the chances Gaudin spends 2009 anywhere but Lou Piniella's doghouse if he is even on the Cubs? Gaudin only had a few really bad outings last year (with the cubs). I never heard that he was "in Lou's doghouse", I just assumed Piniella didn't have much faith in him since he looked bad coming back from his injury at the end of the year. Plus his problem wasn't with walks and Piniella could care less if a reliever gets shelled as long as he's not walking anyone (i.e. Howry, Wuertz). Gaudin would be as good (if not better) than most teams number 5 starter and I have faith Lou knows that.

  10. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm not sold on Shark. He definitely has value, but I think he's got no. 3 potential, with Marshall no. 4 potential. As far as Pie, who knows? He's put up monster stats and he has a legitimate opportunity to be a really good MLB player. But, I don't think the Cubs are sold on him so you might as well trade him while his value is still high.

  12. That would be a HUGE plus. Sounds like Jake just wants to play for us if this is true. If he's looking at playing for a contender and it's between Atlanta and the Cubs, then it's a no-brainer. Somewhat unrelated, but I like how I keep hearing Marshall or Harden mentioned as an either/or scenario. The padres are building for the future or else they wouldn't be trading Peavy in the first place. What good would Harden do for them?
  13. I've seen a couple of sites linking him to Dallas, but nothing of any real note yet. shocking
  14. Preseason lists are pointless other than the fact that they generate conversation and hype.
  15. Not expecting too much from my boys in Raleigh. However the recruiting class for 2009-2010 looks impressive. Lowe has shown he can recruit, it's just a matter of coaching now.... :-k
  16. Brees played great, but wow, what a pathetic showing by San Diego's defense. Norv and Cottrell should both get canned. Inexcusable. I still think SD will make the playoffs, but their defensive philosophy is in need of a 180.
  17. UW doesn't even have to "destroy' ND for it to be a feel good story. I would love nothing else to see Ty stick it to ND. Unfortunately, Ty is coaching the other team, so he can't stick it to ND in any way besides perhaps to float more ridiculous racism accusations. But maybe he can go interview for another job while still employed at UW, like he did when he zipped off during the bye week before his last game as the ND coach and interviewed at UW. You know, instead of recruiting. dude come on, you can dislike willingham for the job he did at notre dame, but how can you rip on him for talking to another school rather than staying in south bend to recruit for a school that everyone knew was going to fire him? Because you don't quit on the team it's your job to coach during the season and go out looking for other work. I'm all for people looking for other work after the season, and especially so if you're a small-time coach looking for a big-time job, i.e. the offers Brady Hoke is probably going to get once Ball State finishes the season. I'm fine with all of that. But during the season is a big breach of ethics to me. oh ok, silly ty for not showing loyalty to a school that wasn't showing him any loyalty. He was still being payed by ND to perform the responsibilities of a football coach to the best of his abilities. If he purposely doesn't do that , then yeah, it's unethical.
  18. Seriously weis. You don't know? The guy is an ass. He makes himself look like such an idiot mouthing off at every turn. I can't believe anyone would seriously argue Rivers *isn't* a D-Bag. He's so ridiculous it's like he's trying to take D-Bag to a whole new level. I know this too because ESPN told me. I mean, Colin Cowherd wouldn't say it if it's not true, right? Seriously though, the stuff he says to other players and to the crowd (which he claims he's not going to do anymore for what it's worth) is nothing that he couldn't say to his young daughters. It's been blown way out of proportion. Meanwhile we have NFL players getting arrested for DUI, cocaine possession, firearms, and in connection to murders. It's OK though, elcaballa and others will go right on badmouthing that d bag Rivers because ESPN said so.
  19. I normally find a pair of friends when I go to Hooters
  20. Drew Brees is the best QB in the league right now. Rivers has more yards per pass attempt, more touchdowns, and less interceptions. How is Brees better? Brees basically matches Rivers in everything. Brees has more yards. Brees has done all this without Colston and Shockey. Rivers still has LT, Gates, Chambers, Jackson around him. Brees these past weeks had... David Patten, Billy Miller, and Lance Moore. Brees has more yards because he's thrown the ball 60 more times. Plus, as stated by dew, the saints probably throw the ball downfield more often. LT has not been a weapon this year, he's averaged 3.7 ypc, he's been hurt. Chambers was out last week. To be honest, I know little about the Saints receiving corps. But I do know that Reggie Bush has 361 yards receiving and I don't think those are post routes, I believe they are "drop the ball off to Reggie and see what happens" routes. I'm not saying Brees is bad at all; I think he's one of the top QBs. But he hasn't been better than Rivers. Ok lets me honest here. I don't really like Phillip Rivers. I think he is a D-Bag. I knew that he was having a very good year, and then I looked it up to be sure and his numbers were even better then I thought. It basically killed every argument I had. (Besides the yards, and yes I know they the throw the ball 102402 times a game. I needed something tho). However, I know LT has been hurt and struggling, that still is not making teams not try to stop him. He is still a threat to the defense. I guarentee teams still try to stop LT before they try to stop Rivers. Again, I didn't realize he was having that good of a year, Im just saying I would still take Drew Brees right now. It's OK. You think Carlos Lee for Podsednik was a good trade for the white sox. Rationality is only good but for so long. I look numbers up before I start shooting off at the mouth, maybe you should try it? Don't say a guy is a "D-Bag" (for what reason?) and he sucks without having any knowledge about the situation. If the whole fantasy football world knows that LT is hurt and less productive, I'm fairly positive opposing NFL defensive coordinators know this as well and are factoring that into their game plan. I'm not trying to be an ass, just don't try to make me look like an idiot without any support behind your statements. And the fact you'd still take Drew Brees is irrelevant. He's been the less productive QB this year.
  21. Well Meph says it will take at least Soto to get the conversation starter, so I ask this...who would be OK dealing Soto for Peavy? And who else (if anyone) would you be willing to part with along with Soto to get Peavy? Personally, I'd do this: Peavy, Greene Soto, Pie, Theriot, Ceda The loss of Soto is somewhat offset by the production that 2009 Greene will probably provide the Cubs offense. Sign Pudge to a two year deal. Win 2009 World Series. Call it a day.
  22. Would a deal of Pie + Marshall + Marmol get it done? Is it too much? Call me crazy, but Id be hesitent to move Marmol in any deal. If we re signed Dempster, or aquired something comparable, wed still have a steller rotaion. Our bullpen, however was shaky at best in the end, and with Marmol gone, there would be nobody reliabe to get the ball to Wood. Marmol is a reliever, he's expendable. Period. If the Padres see him, Pie, and Marshall enough for Peavy, then I'd jump all over it. It's a lot easier to plug a bullpen hole (perhaps there wouldn't be one without Marmol anyway) than it is to get an elite starter.
  23. yeah that michigan-florida capital one bowl will be no contest. How's Texas A & M doing this year?

  25. Drew Brees is the best QB in the league right now. Rivers has more yards per pass attempt, more touchdowns, and less interceptions. How is Brees better? ETA: and a better passing rating, but I assumed you don't count that stat since Rivers is close to 5 points better than Brees there as well.
