That's BS. Yeah, he blew that call terribly. But is it his fault that the NFL that incomplete passes aren't reviewable? He's one of the better refs in the league. He got one wrong. It happens. And I think I'm the last remaining Rams fan. I guess I know how the Lorax felt... (Good God, the Rams are terrible.) I don't think it's too much BS. He made a mistake in a pretty critical situation and probably cost the Chargers the game. With that in mind, I don't have a problem with him getting graded down. Now, he should still be in line for the playoffs and Super Bowl barring more mistakes. He is still one of the best out there. You can review incomplete passes. You can't review a play once the ref blows the whistle. The problem was he screwed up by blowing the whistle too soon. It's not the NFL's fault. Exactly, it's his fault. Had he not blown the whistle that quickly the play would have continued and the Chargers likely win the game. I think Hochuli's a great ref, but he made a mistake and deserved to get graded down for it. I'm still trying to figure to figure out why he blew the whistle. It looked like a fumble right away (i.e. Cutler's arm not going forward) but even if his arm was going forward, the ball looked like it went backwards which would mean it was a lateral and a fumble anyway. That is what puzzles me. As far as I can tell that is the "unofficial" cardinal rule for fumbles/incomplete passes. ALWAYS rule a fumble as it can be overturned later after review. He messed up, that's apparent, but as far as I'm concerned his ego played a role in him ruling that an incomplete pass. He saw the arm move forward automatically figured it was a pass. Unless he was just blanking out (which is unacceptable, especially give the situation), I see no other explanation. Disclaimer: I'm a chargers fan and extremely bias.
