  1. I'd rather see a 4-man rotation than a 6-man rotation. Why is that?
  2. Nolasco should be the closer for the Marlins.
  3. I'll trade places. Not going to be able to catch the Packers game unless I go to BWW :x AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....
  4. Boston has a guy named Craig Hansen who could fill that void. He has a nasty slider that could be even more devastating if he locates his fastball consistently. However, he still needs some experience before he could step into that role.
  5. Not necessarily my own view, fwiw. Who wrote that? Aren't the 3 best closers in history Eckersley, Lee Smith, and Eric Gagne? 3 Americans? Gagne is not an American. Eckersley was already pitching before Tony Larussa invented the closer, so he doesn't count. I'd take Jose Mesa over Lee Smith.
  6. Again, there's a whole article about it, and Kenny Williams acknowledged the non-traditional bullpen usage. Earlier you said "This never works in practice." Feel free to give an example other than the 2003 Red Sox. 2004 Chicago Cubs.
  7. Dempster becomes available when Wood shows he is healthy enough to pitch the ninth inning.
  8. Lofton signs 1 year deal with Texas.
  9. Natural centerfielder or no, Wilson was far worse than Adam Dunn in left field last year according to Chris Dial's metric. Chris Dial must have been drunk when he posted those numbers.
  10. I must've missed the part where Hendry actually said that. There was a quote buried in the Lilly thread where Hendry told Lilly he was going after a "big LH bat". I assume this is what BigbadB is referring to. Cliff Floyd?
  11. Not a whole lot different than "Mock Headline #2" IIRC. I don't think Baltimore would want Jones though, they have too many left-handed OF already. It would likely be necessary to get help from a 3rd team (Jones/Mateo to Colorado, Jennings/Marshall/Marmol/Izturis to Baltimore, Tejada to Chicago). I like the idea of Pie in center. Give him a chance. Bat him 7th in the order and hope for the best. If we could find a significant upgrade to Izturis at short, Pie could be hidden without a problem, he could even move up in the order if he produces offensively. I don't doubt Pie could exceed Izturis' .245/.295/.318 line from '06. That said, I would still do whatever possible to aquire Ryan Church or have Baltimore include a LH outfielder (Patterson?) in the deal. It would seem Soriano is going to be our RF for quite a while so... Soriano DeRosa Lee Tejada Ramirez Murton Pie Barrett Theriot Patterson Cedeno Ward Blanco Thoughts? No chance in hell Patterson comes back to the Cubs.
  12. how about .456/.560/.650/.990? Is that reasonable? No, because your numbers don't even add up. .456/.560/.650/1.210 might be about right, though. :P That works for me.

  14. I would say that having too many SP is a luxury. You can never have enough SP.

  17. Really? Berroa and LaRue are black holes, Grudz isn't any good, Sweeney's coming off a subpar half season, Brown's a platoon player, and Gordon doesn't have a single MLB at bat. It's not a lock to be terrible, but it's nothing admirable really. But you want Pie to start in CF for the Cubs. I cant say I agree with anything you said right there. You can't agree with Berroa being an offensive black hole? The man batted .234/.259/.333 Yeah, Berroa is bad.

  19. Marshall > Marmol > Guzman I like Marshall's poise on the mound. Marmol has more potential to succeed being in the bullpen. There is also some things he needs to work out mechanically. Guzman has the better arm out of them. But his control is suspect and his breaking ball is not consistent enough.
  20. Who is that in your sig picture? The incredible Cesar Izturis.
  21. For a ex-decent prospect? Jones has more value than that. I know if I were the GM I would try to get the best available player for Jones. I wouldn't trade Jacque to trade Jacque. Lofton SHOULD NOT be considered an every day player. And no way in hell would I pay him 6 million. If he is willing to take 2 million then I would consider it. Hendry didn't help out Jones' value by saying he would be open to trading Jones to any other team. Im sure Hendry did not say those exact words. Jones for David Newhan? Thats a complete joke. I rather keep Jones than get that bum Newhan on the team.
