  1. No one has "perfect" mechanics. Chris Carpenter smokes Marlboro Reds and does indeed have flawless mechanics. Those so called "flawless" mechanics have lead to Carpenter having labrum surgery, and a bicep injury in 04 that made him miss the 04 playoffs. Carpenter is one of those "lunging" type pitchers. He lunges forward which can cause a limit in hip rotation. This is my opinion, but maybe his shoulder injury was caused by not getting enough hip rotation or shoulder rotation which causes you to throw more with your arm, which in the end leads to arm injuries.

  5. I dont think that guy is going to show up. If it was up to me, you would be in.
  6. Lets get the show on the road.
  7. Why would you be worried? If he hitting his spots consistently, he is not going to have a problem winning games.
  8. Tick....tick...tick....tick.
  9. Im ready to make my picks.
  10. This is taking longer than I thought.
  11. If memory serves, I seem to recall him saying he tried steroids very briefly and couldn't discern a real benefit from them. If you ever seen House in person, he's tiny, maybe 5'7"-5'8" on a good day, from what I recall he might've been one of the 1st to try steroids to add velo and that's probably the 1st time he realized that maintaining flexibility is more important than adding mass as it didn't add velo. He believes in nutritional supplements to help speed up the recovery time between outings. That is exactly correct. You will not find your fastball in a weight room. Pitching is mainly a speed of movement activity. Weight lifting does not train pitchers to improve in that area. Juan Cruz is a good example of this. He is really thin, but he generates his velocity from his speed of body movement. Good mechanics with a smooth delivery and with proper timing is how you generate a 90mph fastball. Being too flexible is not really a good thing. The shoulder is the most loose joint in your body. Stretching causes looseness which is a cause of pitching arm injuries. Stretching also reduces the muscles and the tissue ability to store that elastic energy that helps the pitcher throw a 90mph.
  12. For us, we badly needed a left handed power hitter. We have exactly 0 people that can fill that roll on the major leage level. Our strength was our bullpen. Yes, we gave up a lot for him in Gonzo and Lillibridge. But, in the 'Pen we have Sol Torres who can close, and John Grabow and Matt Capps who will set up. That set up will get us wins most of the time we head into the 7th leading. Oh yeah - Can't forget Damaso Marte. That's not a bad foursome. The real pain for us was in giving up Lillibridge. Lot of potential in that guy. We got a guy who's an excellent defender and was 10th in the NL in OPS last season, for a reliever. I don't want to make lite of Gonao at all - big shoes to fill. But, if we can't take the lead in the first place, there's nothing to save. Check out: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07018/754774-63.stm Our lineup now looks like: Duffy, Wilson, Freddy, LaRoche, Bay, Nady, Paulino, Castillo. Bautista will push Castillo for playing time. I like our team a lot more today than I did yesterday. A Lot more. If this team doesn't win more than it loses, Tracey should be fired. Im a fan of Matt Capps. I think he has alot of potential to succeed in that setup role for the Pirates for many years.
  13. Done deal. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070117&content_id=1780982&vkey=hotstove2006&fext=.jsp&partnered=rss_mlb
  14. I would like to take part in one.
  15. Their offense is so explosive that it would cause tons of problems for the Bears defense. The Colts defense has been playing pretty well so far in the playoffs. I would rather see the Bears face the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Patriots have the experience that would probably give them the edge over the Bears as well. That being said, the Bears are going to have to get by a really solid team in the Saints this Sunday.
  16. I would love to see Reggie Nelson on the Bears.
  17. This sounds like a Chris Carpenter project. Mulder probably will not be ready to pitch untill August, and that might be in the air. Dave Duncan is probably the best pitching coach who can handle these kinds of projects. He works very well with the veteran pitchers who are coming off some kind of arm injury. Im not expecting Mulder to have any kind of impact untill 2008. Not a bad deal for the Cards, IMO.
  18. What makes you think he will have a breakout season in 07?
  19. Cubs would be giving up too much in that deal. You probably could get Clark or O'Malley.
  20. What does that have to do with my post? I listed those players and stated that the alarmist reaction is justified. Could Tomas Perez end up being more than just a spring training invite? Oh yes, he most definitely could. By the way, that list of players accumulated well over 3000 at bats as Chicago Cubs during the Hendry/Dusty era. We, as fans, are supposed to support Hendry for making the same mistakes that other GM's have already made? A strange pattern I see is that Hendry makes these same mistakes once these bad players were well past their prime. Many of those players on my list were out of baseball completely after their stint with the Cubs.[/quote] All of those players that you mentioned are still playing the game.
  21. Jose Macias, Neifi Perez, Damian Jackson, Enrique Wilson, Rey Ordonez, Tony Womack, Jerry Hairston Jr., Cesar Izturis, Freddie Bynum, Ramon Martinez, Alex Gonzalez, Lenny Harris, Jose Hernandez and Augie Ojeda is a quick list of guys who got major league at bats during the Hendry/Dusty era and should never have been anything more than spring training invites. Shall I list the outfielders next or has a point been made that the alarmist responses are justified? All of those guys had major league AB's with other clubs too. It's not like Hendry is the only GM who signs these types of players. Every organization has players that are not valued by fans.
