I have not read all of the posts in this thread but I am going to add my .02 anyway - I would like to see Soriano try 1B. I think he could be average or above defensively as it is a much easier position that 2nd. Getting balls out of the dirt when you are stationary is different than having to move and field balls. There is a learning curve as 1B a bit opposite than other positions b/c you have to be ready to cover the base rather than just reacting and going to the ball. If he was not a horrible in the outfield I would leave him where he is but I don't see him getting any better out there at this point.
Not just put on waivers but actually let them go if claimed like Rios was last year? My list would be - Soriano, Z, Kosoke, Lee, ARam, Nady, Silva, Grabow, and would really think about Dempster.
here is another one - has us at 84 wins which would at least put us in contention for the WC http://rlyw.blogspot.com/2010/01/extremely-early-2010-mlb-projected.html
found this on Olney's blog the other day P Danny Rodriguez of the Tomateros de Culiacan is expected to sign with the Chicago Cubs soon. Rodriguez is 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA for Culiacan this season.
not my favorite site but looks to be a pretty good ranking of available FA's http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/11/2010-top-50-free-agents.html I would like the Cubs to hang back this year and make a few late signings once the prices come down a few that I would like to see in Cubbie blue Kiko Calero - has been a solid reliever in the AL when healthy - should come cheap Brad Penny - use part of the $$$ Harden would have cost on him I like Felipe Lopez and think he would be a good fit if the price is right
I am amazed he did not hurt himself doing that. Off the bat I didn't think he had much of a shot at it and he ended up over running it - I have 0 worries about Bradley being the best all around right fielder we have had since the Hawk IF he stays healthy. I don't like Lee hitting 3rd, Fukudome and Gregg are major questions for me. Gregg throws hard but it looks awfully straight and he shows the ball so early. Everyone else looked really good.
I know he was a type A FA but I have not seen any teams showing interest in him - he is probably the closest player to Marmol in the league. I really wish we had kept Ceda and the $$$ we are paying Gregg to use to try and sign him. Any info on where he will end up?
I am glad he signed w/ another team I like - the Indians, Twins, and Rays are all teams I root for mainly b/c of my dislike for the that other Chicago team, the Yanks, and Red Sox.
in recent years yes but I don't think it is this year especially when you can get a better closer in Wood for less yes, if by "better" you mean "not better" KRod is good but waaay overrated
Because he was hated as a player by both other players and the media. I was wondering about this when I saw he was not elected again - can someone elaborate as to why he was hated?
