  1. When I 1st saw the report I figured Young tossed the bat and after it hit the ground it changed direction and grazed the ump. I was shocked at seeing the video of how hard and high the bat was thrown. I would be surprised if he plays again this year and would not have a problem w/ charges being brought against him. If I did that in a sball game I am pretty sure charges would be brought against me.
  2. Jones by a country mile. Murton isn't a slug on the basepaths, but he runs like he's constipated. I agree Jones is faster but I don't think it is by a lot - Murton gets down the line a lot faster than I expected.
  3. Never stopped moving toward home? Hey stopped, and made a feint move back to 3rd, which I'm guessing is when Ronny looked over. Oh well, like most little things like this, it had no repercussion on the game itself. I only saw the replay once but I swear Freel did not move an inch back toward 3rd. He took several steps, had Ronny thrown to third Freel would've been safe at third. We must have seen different plays.

  5. What more do you want him to do? The replay showed Freel wasn't more than a couple steps away from the base, and had to move back to get there. Ronny's throw was a bullet too. He had all day. He barely peaked over there before unloading. That's what more I'd want. Ideally you'd hold onto it for another second on a sharp hop like that, but if you look over and see him right near the bag, I can't fault him for turning and firing to first. Freel never stopped moving toward home and was way too far from 3B - Cedeno should have got him in a rundown. I still want him starting at SS everyday though.
  6. Thanks for the help I ended up w/ Jared Weaver and Daric Barton but mainly decided to focus on players who might be able to help me this year and went with players on the DL players in Eaton and Greineke, couple relievers in Riske and Witasik, Bobby Kielty(who should get some PT), and Nick Green who I was able to activate to replace my 2nd Catcher. This is my 23 man roster - 5x5 League C B Molina $7 C M Redmond $1 1B L Overbay $20 3B A Hill $5 - Keeper CI A Boone $18 2B P Polanco $8 - Keeper SS O Cabrera $19 MI J Lopez $5 - Keeper OF J Kubel $11 OF M Bradley $17 OF B Wilkerson $20 OF R White $9 OF T Salmon $2 DH T Hafner $22 - Keeper P - J Nathan $33 - Keeper P J Lacker $15 - Keeper P D Haren $21 P T Wakefield $12 P S Chacon $7 P Jesse Crain $2 P G Mota $2 P R Soriano $3 P K Calero $1 That may not look like a good team but this is a 12 team AL only league and it was one of the favorites after the draft. This league has been in existance for 15 years and I was able to join it 3 years ago and have finished 2nd and 3rd. A few suprises from the draft E Guardado - $32 Bj Upton - $3 - my positions were full so I could not bid on him Dmitri Young $21 C Patterson $13 J Uribe $18 Iguchi $25 Gibbons $24 I highly recomend geting in a bid draft league if you have never tried it - it is much tougher and more fun.
  7. I am in a AL only league and have a bid draft tonite - after the draft we have a 8 round snake draft that is mainly prospects. We can keep up to 5 players a year and by adding $5 to what they made the previous year. For example someone paid $1 for King Felix last year and now have him for $6 this year. I know all of the prospects that are in the majors now and the well known prospects in the minors(Young, Upton, Wood, Kendrick, Hansen, Lester, Weaver, etc). What I am looking for is other prospects you think have a good chance to get called up at some point this year and be good next year. Thanks in advance
  8. Rollins got a double to extend his streak to 37
  9. I was expecting him to give the fans the bird after their sarcastic applause
  10. In case anyone cares - Rollins is 0-3 and probably has 1 AB left today
  11. Why is Hatterberg playing first? I thought they traded Casey to make room at first for Dunn? Dunn is more comfortable playing of
  12. This could be like Z's 1st outing last year - Hopefully he has a couple of low pitch innings so Baker doesn't have him pitch 120+ to get thru 5 innings for the W
  13. I'll watch Len and Bob but the radio is nearby. I also have on the opposing team's call (I'm obsessive like that; I like all the angles). That is pretty obsessive - not that there is anything wrong with it. I have to admit I miss your old avatar.
  14. I am in a 12 team AL only 5x5 league and can keep up to 3 of the following players Lackey $15 Garland $8(he was great for me last year but he worries me) Chacon $6 - not getting any respect but he is going to get a ton of run support A Hill - 2B/3B - $5 Jose Lopez 2b - $5 I am already keeping Nathan, Hafner, and Polanco. What do you guys think?
  15. I doubt he thought Soriano would want to move to the OF but believed he would as he doesn't really have a choice. NY and TX never forced the issue.
  16. I think Bowden went in to the deal knowing Soriano would not want to move to the OF but in the end would at least try it. If my memory serves me correctly he played LF very well early in his career for the Yankees. The Nats even offered him his choice of CF or LF. He is certainly athletic enough to play CF and I think he should jump at the chance to play there as I doubt he could do any worse in CF than 2B and if he does well it could really help him in FA.
  17. Here is a good story about the Rays trying to start over w/ some info about Young. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2362791 I think it is clear the Rays new ownership/FO is much better than it was. It isn't like they have kept him down that long - he has only been in the minors for 2 years.
  18. Yeah, they're stupid. With Huff moving back to 3B, RF is open for Young. I'm guessing this means they want more of Travis Lee and Sean Burroughs in the linuep, who hold the key to them turning their franchise around! I think they made the right decision - even w/ Huff moving to 3rd they still have Crawford, Gomes, Baldelli, and Gathright in the OF/DH. Spending another month or 2 in the minors will not hurt Young as a player and they will control him for another year.
  19. Miles: The Cubs will be a lot better than they’re getting credit for. It’s conceivable they could win their division handily if their pitching stays healthy. The additions to the bullpen, Bob Howry and Scott Eyre, should help tremendously. I know that is a big if but I like to see Bruce believes it.
  20. I think Rothchild expects Prior to be ready but said that to lower expectations just in case something happens. The Cubs could handle things like this better but teams cannot give out medical info about players without the players authorization anymore so that could have something to do with it.
  21. I am amazed that some people are bothered by this.
  22. Why'd you think that? He has spent the last two years in the pitcher friendly parks of the Florida State League. Dopirak will see the same kind of improvement in the SL. Some people forget that Moore is an extreme talent and at one point in his career had a huge upside. I have seen Moore numerous times and he is a solid prospect and a huge sleeper in this system. Remember Moore was so highly thought of at one point that he was taken #8 overall in 2002. That is in front of both Hermida and Francouer. The SL is not much more of a hitters' league than the FSL. Also, Pringles is pretty hard on hitters, in particular. I'm not sure either Moore or Dopirak will get that much of a boost by moving there. That's not to say that they won't do better in 2006, it's just that I don't think the move itself is going to do it for them. Both of those guys can make huge strides if they can increase their contact rate. Both have pretty high potential and are still young enough to reach it. I would be a bit more optimistic for the two of them in 2006 if Von Joshua were still there at AA. What happenned to Von Joshua?
  23. Pawelek #1??? http://www.minorleagueball.com/story/2006/2/12/114449/224
  24. Don't they get credit for signing their own players to extensions? They do have one of the highest payrolls in the NL. I expect to be lied to or at least not be told the whole truth by sports teams and players so it does not bother me when it happens. What does bother me is the fact that the Cubs have one of the highest payrolls in the NL but much of it could have been spent better.
