Speed isn't what would have put the Cubs over the top the past few years, talent is. And even if speed would help us, Crawford is 30 and that speed may start diminishing here pretty soon. At that point, he's a slightly more patient and much less powerful Soriano with (possibly) better defense. possibly better defense??? that is like saying Olivia Wilde might be hotter than Roseanne Barr
never thought I would long for the days when the Trib owned the team If Hendry is still GM next year I will be beyond pissed I would be very happy if we hired the TB GM - Andrew Friedman - very different markets but if you can be successful in a small market against 2 very well run big market teams I like the chances of success in a big market
I could be wrong, but I'm not expecting him to be one of the better hitters in the lineup. He stands a pretty decent chance of being our 6th or 7th best hitter. Seriously??
he would have to be pretty stupid to be using anything against the rules while working w/ Conte b/c of his rep - Byrd does not seem stupid to me in the least so I would bet $$$ he is clean
Has your age ever truly been verified? my performance isn't based partly on my age and unfortunately no one is considering paying me 200-300 mil over the next 8-10 years
I used to like Neyer but tired of him as it is usually just the same stuff with him - I much prefer KLaw. Stark and Olney are solid at what they do. Kurkjian has really good stuff on occasion. I really miss Gammons though.
That's definitely wise, especially when you're the Oakland A's, but what if you're the Red Sox or the Cubs and you have the money. Is it good to let the talent walk and get the picks and rebuild the back end of your bullpen over and over again? Truly asking... I see where you are coming from but I think there are better areas to spend $$$/years. No way would I do an early deal with him b/c of injury risk.
no other team was offering close to that much, can opt out after both years, lose 1st round pick good player for them to sign given how shaky their starting pitching is but hard to believe they could not have signed him to a more team friendly deal
conflicted about this trade - love Garza but hate to see Archer traded - I was ok w/ Lee getting traded but was not expecting Archer at all time will tell for this trade - it is a win now type of deal so we better win and make the playoffs or the trade will be a bust IMO
He's not horrible in the OF. I've seen him play horribly many many times and make very few catches that were not routine. On a scale from 1-10(10 being the best) he would come in around a 4 IMO and he is only that high b/c he has a great arm. He is better than Dunn out there but is well below average. You're not basing this on anything except what you think you've seen? What I think I've seen???? He does not go come in, go back, or go to his right well. He does cover a decent amount of ground to his left - not as much as he should with his speed though.
