  1. Some mocks have us taking Willis. I like him, and I don't like our LBs, so that sounds like a dang good fit to me.
  2. Read my prior posts. If you haven't, read them again. No one's saying decommitting is a terrible thing by itself. Weis is annoyed because these two kids never sacked up and told him they were considering anyone else, let alone that they would be going elsewhere. Greg Little was telling people he was coming to ND as recently as the night before NSD. And with Arrelious Benn, he's annoyed that he's trying to drag ND through the mud for recruiting him post-Illinois commitment. As if ND were the only ones. As for USC, if they're blowing out ND for the next 10 years, that means they're blowing out everyone, because our classes the last two years are by far the most impressive of their regular opponents. This is where I like Jimmy Clausen. Say what you want about the limo thing, but he never wavered once he'd decided to come to ND. Jimmy's father went as far to tell Weis he needn't continue recruiting Jimmy because they were on board, no questions asked. I have a feeling that kid is much more classy than anyone is willing to admit. A NY Times article today tries to float the possibility that ND is behind the accusations toward Illinois re: recruiting practices. In the same article, there are two different Big 10 coaches that basically flat-out accuse Illinois. Typical mainstream media work there. All this said, if you truly believe Weis is "the lowest form of scum", there's no convincing you otherwise, I'm sure, ditto anyone else who feels that way.
  3. Most reports I've seen, say that if Quinn drops to Miami at #9 they will be forced to take him or trade down to a team that really wants him. Carolina...ahem...Carolina...
  4. There's one Cardinals game on CSN+...there needs to be a rule against that kind of thing happening.
  5. Well, I thought his name was Weis, but apparently it has two S's in it. (Not directed at you, I see it all the time and it drives me nuts.) Charlie Weis is an essentially calculated man. If he wants to be portrayed as a jerk, he'll act like a jerk. If he wants to be portrayed as a dedicated family man, he'll tell a few stories about his wife and kids. If he wants to be portrayed as a smart-ass, he'll fire off a few remarks. I enjoy every minute of it. Give me a jerk any day over a nice guy who can't get it done such as our previous two coaches.
  6. I looked at about 20 mock drafts last night out of boredom. Most had Carolina taking either Patrick Willis or Reggie Nelson, either of which I'd be ecstatic with. One solitary mock had Quinn falling to us at 14, which would be awesome and impossible. Quinn was listed as going to either Cleveland or Miami in most mocks, with some votes for Oakland, Detroit, Tampa, and even Minnesota in there.
  7. Damn it, I thought I'd heard this wouldn't happen.
  8. Ball State beats Buffalo today and due to the sheer patheticness of the MAC West, a 4-6 conference record is good for 3rd place in the division.
  9. I read it and was responding to the first part, which is why I said "almost always". If you want to say that you can't have morals, fine. But don't go on national TV and drag the two kids who left through the mud. I really wouldn't care if it weren't for that. But don't act like committments are some principle to be honored and then try to steal away commits from other schools in the last two weeks. You can't have it both ways. I agree with this sentiment. He wasn't dragging the kids through the mud for decommitting - he was dragging them through the mud for leading ND to believe they were still coming (Greg Little even told someone YESTERDAY that he was still coming) and then changing their minds, at the last minute, with no explanation to the ND coaches. I don't have a problem with decommitting if a situation changes (such as Justin Trattou going from ND to Florida when Corwin Brown came in and implemented a 3-4 scheme). I do have an issue with them doing it without informing the coaches of their decision, and at the last second no less.
  10. what a d-bag. That sounds awfully hollow after ND just took two recruits who had previously committed to Iowa and Louisville. Different situations. The Iowa recruit consisted pretty much of ND offering and him changing his mind due to the offer. The Louisville recruit was a coaching change, i.e. the coaching change that cost ND a bunch of recruits in 2004-05. However, ND's far from innocent of this. There's a Washington Post article today in which former QB coach Peter Vaas was pursuing Arrelious Benn pretty aggressively after he was committed to Illinois. Funny how it's almost always a different situation when ND is involved. Smith had been committed for almost 6 months and taken multiple visits. He helped recruit others to Iowa. The point is Charlie puts on a face for the cameras that he's all about committment and being honorable about them. He's upset that someone would back out of a committment to him. Yet he has no dilemna's when it comes to trying to snatch away commits from other schools, the very week before signing day. What a man of principle. People with morals get burned in college football recruiting. And thanks for reading the rest of my post in bold before jumping right to the stupid attack conclusion.

  12. Corwin Brown, the new defensive coordinator, said in his introductory presser that he loves the 3-4. Fine by me as our defensive line was pretty much gone after this season, although it supposedly cost us Trattou.
  13. Notre Dame is #1!* * - I wish I cared about college hockey In other news, we're seeded 9th in Bracketology, in the same pod as Florida. That's just great.
  14. We've still got a load of great 4-star players, not to mention the #1 recruit in the country in Jimmy Clausen, but in just a few days we lost Trattou to that slimeball Urban Meyer and both the Littles, probably falling from a top 5 or 6 class to more like 11 or 12. :?
  15. Greg Little switched his commitment from ND to UNC at the last minute, and rumor is that Chris Little switched from ND to Georgia. We're getting punched in the gut today.
  16. ND will be top-10. If we can be top-10 every year, I'm not even remotely close to complaining. I'd like it if Weis could recruit as well on defense as he does on offense, but even what he has done the last two years is still a gigantic improvement over Ty's defensive recruiting. Ball State brought in another fairly strong recruiting class, ranked 5th in the MAC. Among them are two small but very good players that were offered by Big Ten schools - RB Frank Edmonds and WR Daniel Ifft.
  17. Maybe, but ND certainly was trying to win that game, and they lost at home. Unfortunately, a team like Holy Cross will never get a home NIT game, because our Hart Center holds a max of about 4000 people. So make the NCAAs and scare the crap out of Kansas or Kentucky again
  18. well at least you prove the committee wrong by losing home NIT games to Holy Cross!!! Oh, brother. When was the last time a team that got the shaft from the tourney won that joke of a "tournament"? ND played freshmen that game that hadn't played all season, shows you how important it was. Funny, cause from looking at the box score of that game, it looks like Notre Dame's two best players were in the game for 40 minutes, and two of their other regular starters played 35 and 23 minutes. In fact, I looked really carefully, but the only guy who got a lot more playing time than usual was this fellow Kurz, and he got into 14 games that year. Darn that internet, with all its "facts" and stuff. Darn that NIT, with all its meaninglessness and stuff. I take about as much stock in the NIT as I do college bowl games that aren't the national title, which is zero.
  19. ND unranked this week. Still pissed that we lost to freakin USF. Get well soon Rob Kurz, we need you bad.

  21. I got burned by the Brewers' potential last year, and I'm dropping them before they turn into my Arizona Cardinals of baseball in terms of continually picking them to do well.
  22. I was just saying earlier tonight that the Bears very well might take a shot with Troy Smith.
  23. ND lost to friggin USF. If that loss somehow comes back to cost us the tournament (and seeing how the committee likes to give us the screw if we're on the bubble, it may very well work that way), I'm going to be new levels of pissed off. There is no excuse for losing to them. BSU lost to Akron by 18, no shock since the Zips are the best team in the MAC.
  24. Sorry guys :( I wanted you to win. My 2-9 record in playoff picks this season will be remembered in hushed tones by fans everywhere.
  25. There's no reason at all that Gordon shouldn't have made it. He's averaging 3 more points a game than Chauncey, has played 10 more games, and on top of all that, he has played 6 fewer minutes a game in the games he has played due to Skiles's completely irrational love affair with Duhon. Gordon is clearly having the better season IMO (although Billups is averaging 7.6 assists to Gordon's 3.6).
