  1. I like puff pieces on my own team. But not enough to tolerate the other eight billion puff pieces.
  2. Haha, wow, you almost jinxed them. Pulled it off, but it shouldn't have been that close. ND does that. At Cincy next - SHOULD be a gimme as they're 1-10 in conference, but USF should've been a gimme too.
  3. Up 9 with 1:18 to go - at this point we'll have to miss some free throws to lose...
  4. Good to see the refs have picked up where they left off on their quest to ensure that ND goes to the NIT Irish only trail by 4 despite it
  5. Last year's BP caps kick this year's ass. Actually, they kick just about every other cap's ass.
  6. I haven't been ticked off before now at anything personally. The homeplate signage was inevitable. The Bud Light bleachers, eh. The computer scoreboards around the park, yes, please. But this is needless and stupid. All these things you speak of were sources of great angst when they were announced. Now they're just passing memories. It's all inevitable. All ballparks will eventually have many more ads. Wrigley field will eventually be called "Bank One Park at Wrigley Field" or some such nonsense. The old grandstands will eventually be replaced. EVERTHING will eventually be replaced. The past is the past. Let's win a World Series, shall we? They weren't sources of angst for me. The way I saw it, we needed the homeplate signage to get network games because they wanted to do their green-screen advertising thing. The computer scoreboards were a great addition, I love them. And the bleacher thing paid for new and better bleachers so I was all for that too. This will put some money in the Cubs' pocket, but it has absolutely no side benefit at all, whereas the previous three things did, at least IMO.

  8. Isn't TBS doing some national games this year?
  9. Thanks for the help Demons although you owed it to us after you mugged our players last week ND against Providence tomorrow night on ESPN in an absolute must-win. If they can pull it off they'll be one game out of a bye in the Big East tourney with a home game against said 4th-place team (Marquette) on the schedule. If they lose it'll probably continue the downward spiral all the way to the NIT.
  10. The only way this can work is if Hendry signs Z and then comes out and flat-out says the Cubs couldn't have signed Z without these ads. Good lord, this is stupid.
  11. I wasn't comparing the deals, I was comparing the attitudes people have of Wood and Zambrano. Also, I'm not entirely opposed to giving Zambrano Zito money, the man deserves it. He's what, 26? Jesus guys. I'd give it to him too. The question is, does Hendry have it to give to Zambrano? After giving the big money out to all these other guys, I'm not so sure he has the money to offer Z. He had an opportunity to lock up Zambrano before he paid out money to Lilly, Floyd and Marquis. He didn't do it. Now he risks losing him to someone WHO WILL give Zambrano Zito money next year, maybe more. If that happens, should Hendry lose his job? Absolutely. My desire to trade Zambrano now is only to attempt to get more than a couple of draft picks when Zambrano leaves. I believe Zambrano won't be back if he isn't signed before this season starts. No way will the Cubs be able to outbid the Yankees. I agree with this. To sign Lilly and Marquis without knowing for a fact that you still had money for Zambrano is unforgivable in and of itself. This blunder alone would cost any MLB GM his job, and Hendry is a guy that should, IMHO, have been fired earlier. If this goes down the way I fear it will, with Z walking for draft choices and no Cub WS in 2007, Hendry will, and should, go down as one of the worst GMs in Cubs history. Being one of the worst GMs in Cubs history is akin to being one of the whitest players to play basketball at Duke. Every new crop wants to top the actions of their predecessor.
  12. I'll say April 28th in St. Louis. La Russa will piss him off somehow.
  13. I totally agree with Skiles in principle that fouls should be called late in the game if they're committed. Too often refs swallow it to keep from "deciding" the game, inadvertently deciding the game anyway. At the same time, Gordon was fouled on the other end as well. (And I totally agree that we got a break at the other end to start. I said at the time it looked like he pulled off a little MJ-type nudge to force the call.)
  14. Wow, less than a week ago I saw ND's Rob Kurz gets absolutely CRUSHED under the basket with no call so that the refs can live in the security that they "didn't decide the game", and now the refs decide to change their tune when it negatively affects my team. What a joke.
  15. GORDON 3-PT PLAY! 111-110 now with 12 seconds. I'm pretty sure BG got away with a somewhat MJ-esque nudge to force that foul to be called.
  16. Ball State beats NIU 57-55 in front of an announced crowd of 475 (blizzard). Anthony Newell with a career-high 21 points.
  17. Bulls have come back from down as many as 12 with just a few minutes left. It's now 110-108, 21 seconds to go, and the Bulls have the ball after Toronto threw it away.
  18. His reported potential long-term deal is worthy of suicide. You don't want him signed long-term; we get it. Don't be an ass. Ooops. Too late. My prediction is that Rich will be dead on Hendry's doorstep due to injecting heroin into his forehead sometime in the next month.
  19. Son of a bitch
  20. If the Grizz don't ask for too much, Pax will get him. I'm not worried either way. As is, the Bulls have as good a chance as anyone to come out of the East - save Detroit probably.
  21. Big big big win especially with Detroit refusing to lose a basketball game.
  22. Time will heal. Sammy brought a lot of things on himself with his petulant and selfish behavior. Albert Pujols is petulant and selfish in many ways too, but I can't see STL ever allowing #5 to be issued again once he leaves the team, even if he leaves a meaningless game on the last day of the year early. Pujols is a much better player than Sammy. Even at Sammy's peak he didn't approach Pujols' completeness as a hitter. That isn't what I was trying to say. Regardless of the fact that Pujols will, when all's said and done, be known as a better player, Sammy meant at least as much to the Cubs and, more importantly, their fans as Pujols does to STL and their fans.
  23. Don't worry, even if Tampa does take Quinn I'm sure Troy Smith will be available with your pick. :D  It's not even so much that I want Quinn, although I do - I just definitely do not want a division rival to have him. :D
  24. The worst shooter in the country (our point guard Steve Horton, and you can look that up) just made a 4-point play. That was random.
  25. Since Illinois won the first game, I'd call it a push. not by a long shot, the ej thing would overshadow 8 consecutive sweeps. oh well, i should be used to my teams getting beaten without retribution by now. Will it make you feel better when Sampson has IU on probation in a couple years? he's done nothing wrong--but zook, somehow is the worst cheater in history because he got some great recruits to play for a talent-starved program. People are just afraid of Zook, especially Jabba the hutt over at south bend. I'm glad we somehow got an ND football insult off in a college BASKETBALL thread. You people are ridiculous sometimes. are you going to cry? Are you serious?
