  1. Pretty crappy stuff from Leiter, who seemed to be scared to throw a strike to a guy with a barely 600 OPS
  2. Am interesting grid today. I tried to get cute with Red Sox/Cy Young, otherwise I'd have probably had it. Also, I would never in a million years have guessed the most recent correct answer for that square.
  3. Cody and Dansby have been quite the duo. Not often you see a guy blast a foul ball homer and immediately straighten it out for a dinger the next pitch.
  4. I might just have to retire after today. Score of 62. I had absolutely no idea if the lower-right corner was correct. I just couldn't think of anything else and took a wild stab in the dark hoping I'd just forgotten he played for the Marlins.
  5. Ross wanted an excuse to horsefeathers bunt so he put in Madrigal. Never mind that he probably gave us the best chance of anyone to get that run in the way he's swinging it.
  6. For the love of horsefeathers God stop horsefeathers bunting
  7. I know these guys are older than I am and I'm sure there are voice-related issues, but if I had become a PBP broadcaster like I wanted to, I would've hated the idea of something cool happening and my not having the call of it.
  8. His first hit was a hit anyway, he just got 2 more bases from the RF being unable to get to it. This last one was also a very hard hit ball, tough play for anyone.
  9. Since this thread got bumped again anyway: The Atlantic Coast Conference adding two schools from the literal Pacific coast is the absurd ending this sport deserves. I don't know why the ACC would possibly benefit from this - under normal circumstances I wouldn't get why Cal or Stanford would ever consider it either, but they might just not have another option.
  10. Syracuse and Pittsburgh had announced they were out of the Big East a whole-ass year prior to ND's ACC move. That league was dead. ND would've happily parked their non-football sports there forever had the league remained viable, but it was not. (Also, football is all that matters, as we all know, so ND leaving the Big East in not-football had almost no effect on that league.) As for your second paragraph, this canard has been tossed around for several realignment cycles now, and it's just wrong. First, the idea that it's somehow Notre Dame's responsibility to stop the B1G from destroying other conferences or other schools from repeatedly shivving each other is so incredibly funny and rich I don't even know how to respond. Second, just for one of many possible examples, literally nothing about the demise of the Pac-12 would've been affected or stopped in any way by ND being in the ACC for football.
  11. I figured I could count on you guys to make a lifetime best rarity score of 81 still seem pedestrian. I wanted to use for one of the 300 save spots but I wasn't absolutely certain he got to that mark and I wasn't going to risk it. Save milestones are right there with stolen bases and Gold Gloves as blind spots for me.
  12. Just because I never get to brag, I completed the grid yesterday
  13. I only got 7 today. I'm utterly flabbergasted that Albert Pujols didn't hit 300 for his career.
  14. No need for heat. I've been quite vocal about Madrigal not being my favorite player but the way he is playing lately makes him a perfectly useful piece in the lineup, which is a great outcome.
  15. I literally never said it wasn't. They also didn't just destroy the Pac-12 because they felt like it, barely two years after entering a supposed 'Alliance' of like-minded universities countering perceived SEC aggression that was really just Kevin Warren's successful effort to scout the next cash cows he was going to steal from other leagues.
  16. They've never destroyed entire conferences in pursuit of it. (The beauty of not being in one is that you can be self-interested without knifing your supposed colleagues in the back.) The only real difference at this point between the B1G and the supposedly evil, football-uber-alles SEC is that the SEC is mostly honest about what it is.
  17. Mostly it would be teeing off on the B1G for constantly trying to pretend they care about anything but money while literally spending the past 3 decades straight proving otherwise. I don't think ND will literally be forced into a conference. The CFP is too big now, and any attempt to codify a way to exclude independents into it at this point would be a hilariously obvious violation of antitrust law. Oddly enough, they might find an ally in the SEC, who would prefer the only remaining big name on the board not go to the other big moneymaking conference and would likely help devise a way to avoid that if possible. But they might just join one anyway since the whole idea of being in a conference has long since stopped being relevant. (The only connective tissue 8 of the soon-to-be 18 B1G schools are going to have is that they like money and the B1G offered it.) The financial realities of going it alone are just going to be too much to overcome at some point.
  18. I really don't have much to say (well, I do, but nothing anyone here wants to read) except that this all horsefeathers sucks. My school and my team will keep me engaged but the sport as a whole is kind of a hard sell right now.
  19. It's probably somewhere between a decent and healthy margin. They don't play any more weekday day games than anyone else does, but exclusively day games on Fridays and weekends (outside national games) probably bumps you up a few notches.
  20. It is extremely easy to not say slurs while you have a microphone on, making fun of him for that alone is completely fair game and should be done often. Also he was quite plainly a jackass long before he started saying slurs into microphones, so that helps.
  21. I never understood why we were linked to him. He had all the looks of a guy going over a cliff and oh what do you know
  22. This second tweet is presented without comment:
