  1. Which leads one to the only possible reason to root for the Sox to win the Series again this year: There is simply nothing to copy from them OTHER than hitting a bunch of home runs, because that is what they do best.
  2. I'd vote Payton, Jim Brown and Barry Sanders ahead of Smith.
  3. By the end of this series it is likely that KC will be contracted from the Fecal League.
  4. Pierzynski officially voted in. So is Nomar. Absolutely unbelievable.
  5. It's been said already in this thread, but it needs to be put in all caps: CHRIS CAPUANO HAS THROWN 26 INNINGS OF BASEBALL AGAINST THE CHICAGO CUBS THIS SEASON. IN THOSE INNINGS THE CUBS HAVE NOT MANAGED A SINGLE RUN. NOT EVEN BY ERRORS. CLEARLY, SOMETHING IS PRETTY $&@*ING WRONG WITH THIS TEAM.
  6. How many players did Ozzie Guillen select? How many were White Sox? He had 7 picks. 4 of them, he had to use to rep every team. After that, he had 3 picks for whoever, and he took his guys. Add Maggs and its 3 of 4. Small sample size, but its not out of bounds to assume he would screw Mauer to make room for AJ given the chance. Especally since he screwed Liriano AND Schill to make room for Buehrle.
  7. huh? Same as Back button on your browser
  8. He does bat high-OBP Derek Jeter leadoff and low-OBP Robinson Cano low in the order, although that probably has more to do with reputation than OBP.
  9. I would trade any two of our bullpen pitchers (as long as it wasn't Eyre AND Howry) plus any two of our bench players for Freel.
  10. Trib mentioned Piniella and Fredi as options today. If Lou turns us down, here's hoping Hendry settles for Fredi.
  11. Tell me, am I the only one that doesn't notice, and never has been able to notice, the difference in taste between any Dr. Pepper? I've had regular, diet, the old Red Fusion stuff, and Cherry Vanilla, and they have all tasted exactly the same.
  12. Great move for Indiana but they're probably still the worst team in the Central (which says more about the Central than Indiana).
  13. True story: My freshman year college roommate bet his best friend last year that Alabama would make the national title game, with the bet being that his friend would go to a strip club shirtless with "I LIKE MEN" painted on his chest if it happened. Scared the living crap out of him until they finally lost to LSU on November 12.
  14. Soon. When I first looked at this it said 'you should come out with one'. Now it says soon and it wasn't edited. Am I going crazy? I am not sure when they will be out, but all the ones I have seen in magazines have OSU at #1. Notre Dame is getting some also, and Athlon's has Oklahoma. They all have their flaws and there's no one that's a clear cut leader, but I like both of those two more than Ohio State. As an ND fan it pains me to say this, but they are not a #1 team. No way at all. I agree. They have a chance to win it all for sure, but they in no way deserve to be ranked #1 preseason. I'd put Ohio State for sure ahead of them, and Oklahoma, USC, Texas and a few others are also at least as deserving of preseason hype. Who does Oklahoma have at QB? I love the college football season and I'm jealous as heck at teams that can win and have 70-100 thousand fans at each game. Oklahoma's QB is Rhett Bomar, a talented sophomore who had a slow start last year when inserted into the lineup but did pretty well towards the end. I'm sure IMB has more details.

  16. Agreed. I can't believe MacPhail and his goons haven't had a talk with Bob yet.

  18. Definitely. Rather him do that there than suck with us though.
  19. I'm no big Stones fan but they're certainly good enough to beat the Lips.
  20. I'll be honest, I've never heard a song by the Crue, but I'm sure they wouldn't be better than Pink Floyd.
  21. Don't they need somebody to score points? Plenty of room on the sunny side of Chicago sports. I'm ready for football season already. I can get behind that...but I'm good with what the Bulls have done. I don't know much about it, but it seems rather obvious they are still a long way from being a stud team without somebody who can score. Wallace sounds like a better version of Chandler's defense only game. An upgrade certainly, but not a guy who will take an already great defensive team that was mediocre overall due to inability to score, into a great team. Are they just expecting to win every game 79-78 or do they think one of their young guys is going to take a huge leap this year? As Bill Simmons and many other NBA gurus will tell you, the 3rd year is when many guys start really hitting their stride. Kirk had easily his best year yet last season in his 3rd year, and four of our best players (Gordon, Duhon, Nocioni and Deng) are entering their third season this year. It's not a stretch to think that at least three of them will improve this season, two of them significantly. Have I mentioned that I'm stoked we didn't even have to give up Malik in the Tyson deal?
  22. When do the preseason polls usually come out?
  23. The latter scenario is much more likely. Smith will probably play a slightly more important version of the Eric Piatkowski role. I'm loving this team right now.
  24. Jim Leyland has kidnapped Ozzie and is keeping everyone believing he's managing the AL for appearance's sake. That's the only explanation.
  25. My alma mater fell one game short of getting a shot at Oden in the Indiana state finals this year, but they'd have fared no better than Muncie Central did.
