  1. Which only takes about 7 wins for ND, right? Which is a hell of a lot harder to get than the ACC's automatic berth.
  2. Barrett is not in the game more than anything else because not enough Cubs votes were cast. If you are behind Yadier freaking Molina in the voting, something's up.
  3. They call him "medicore" however. I agree with most everything they write, but even after today's game Buehrle has a 3.86 ERA, which qualifies as solid.
  4. The Cubs have some kind of strange ability to beat Clemens (I can remember specific instances in each of the last two seasons where we surprisingly beat him) so I will play that card again. Cubs win.
  5. We got Crime Dog in late June 2001. We got Fred McGriff in late July 2001. Link He strung the Cubs out for a couple weeks before finally agreeing to the trade. Hm, well that shows how good my memory is.
  6. That's Tyson's contract too :x
  7. Serious list: C Barrett 1B Lee 2B Walker/Utley SS Tejada 3B Wright LF C Lee CF Granderson RF Guerrero SP Z, Prior, Santana, Schilling, Pedro RP Farnsworth, Eyre, Howry, Papelbon
  8. Barrett is not on the final vote block either. It's Capuano, Wagner, Abreu, Nomar and Chris Young from SD. The AL final vote will have a chance to give the Sox another undeserving All-Star in Pierzynski but if anyone other than Hafner gets that (unless it is Liriano I guess) then there's no justice in the world.
  9. To be fair, the players voted in Konerko over Travis Hafner (which is ridiculous), but Ozzie did take Mark Buehrle over Schilling (who has a better record and ERA).
  10. My only ND game this year will be Stanford... Troy Smith, Chris Leak, Brian Brohm, Ginn, Michael Bush, Steve Slaton, Sam Keller and Pat White round out Fox Sports's top 10 Heisman candidates after Quinn and Peterson, but at least at the start of the season it looks to me like a two-horse race between the latter two unless Smith keeps up the form he exhibited at the Fiesta (not entirely likely because it won't get much easier than ND's 2005 secondary). Marshawn Lynch, Cal? He's very good but he'd have to have an absolutely HUGE game in the first four or five to get his name on the map because I don't think many people know a lot about him.
  11. LoDuca: .286-3-24, 327/400/727 Barrett: .300-8-30, 361/493/854 Good call, fans.
  12. I want to call a moratorium on Maddux being called a future Hall of Famer until he stops pitching like a right-handed Glendon.
  13. C - Blanco 1B - Nevin 2B - Theriot SS - Womack 3B - Neifi LF - Bynum CF - Pierre RF - Pagan

  15. Why on earth is Murton batting behind Pagan?
  16. One of my former students will be freshman on the ND squad this year. Granted he will not see playing time, but I'm forced to root for ND. This begs the question: Who? Demetrius Jones(QB).......so ND only has Brady Quinn not to mention they got the two other top freshmen quarterbacks coming in this season. So I may never get a chance to even see him play. I was pumped about Jones's commit, but the fact that Zach Frazer and Evan Sharpley are both probably ahead of him on the depth chart, and with Jimmy Clausen waiting in the wings, probably means Jones will get the Holiday/Battle/Godsey/Clark treatment and moved to receiver, where I'm sure he could be a good one.
  17. Considering the Cubs' history of signing accomplished relievers only to see them flame out utterly and spectacularly for reasons never having to do with injury over the last few seasons I'm surprised that you're surprised. It's gotten to the point when I am surprised if a Cubs signing actually DOES perform (like Jacque this season so far).
  18. Was shown right after AJP's homer, and pretty much summed up all our feelings on the season. A great poster and the guy should be proud of himself for making it.

  20. For the first time since the early 1990s, ND is almost unanimously a top 5 team in preseason, they have preseason 1st team All-Americas at two positions and leading candidates at many others, the best offensive mind in the sport coaching, a top 5 recruiting class coming in, etc. etc. Forgive my perceived boasting, but the chance to talk about something GOOD happening with one of my teams is one I always have to take.
  21. I guarantee that if the Cubs lose, Dusty is not fired.
  22. Statement schmatement, I'm sick of people trashing Cubs fans, effectively, for not being fair weather fans. Best comment of the day: Piniella talking about the wind blowing out after a Ramirez homer that would have gotten through a damn tornado. This year sucks. 63 days till Sept. 2nd and college football.
