  1. haha, what now? Michigan and MSU had a combined 3 games before they played Notre Dame. Are you seriously going to say that people overrating Notre Dame is due to their opponents? Isn't the entire reason they were overrated due to their murderous-but-oh-wait-a-minute-not-really schedule? You can't help everything, I guess, but Pitt-Mich-MSU, even with what ended up happening, is still a much tougher opening three games than what the majority of BCS conference schools face to open things up.
  2. I would still have a winning record if I hadn't made the mistake of spot-starting twice during the current two-month swoon.
  3. Prior has improved each time out, but unfortunately for him, the Cubs are facing a lefty. That means no run support for Mark. On the other hand, he should be used to that by now. Go Cubs.
  4. No, but some are significantly downplaying his value. He's no Tim Duncan, but he provides more overall value than say, Ilgauskas. I'd say that's highly debatable. I wouldn't. Z isn't nearly as important to Cleveland as he was, say, two years ago.
  5. Fact is, Bulls were a 7 seed in the East and nearly took down the eventual champs with Chandler and Sweets as their main big men. Now, they have Wallace (which weakens Detroit as well) and even if he has weaknesses, he is ten times the player Chandler is. Then when you factor in the possibility of getting PJ for Chandler, you have a frontcourt of Nocioni/Deng/Wallace/PJ/Sweets/Allen, whichever 3 you want to throw out there. It lowers the PT for a guy (Sweets) who is much better when played in quick spurts, gives Noc, Allen and Deng a guy in the middle who can attract some attention and open their shooting up more, and he improves the defense in a huge way. This won't singlehandedly put the Bulls as the East favorites, but it goes a much longer way than you'd normally expect due simply to the complete ineptitude of the Bulls' 4 and 5 in many games last year.
  6. I suggest that if you want to know how good ND's schedule is before mid-October, write to the athletic directors of Michigan, MSU, Purdue, et al and tell them to stop scheduling Miami OH, Northern Illinois, Ball State, directional Michigan schools, Baylor, etc. in the early season. No one would have made the mistake of overrating the Irish last season if the other teams had played anyone before their showdown with Weis and Co.
  7. Carr and JLS deserve an assist to all the ND haters due to the fact that their teams always end up with a much worse record than their talent indicates thereby making last year's schedule look even worse than it actually turned out to be.
  8. Which only takes about 7 wins for ND, right? Which is a hell of a lot harder to get than the ACC's automatic berth.
  9. Barrett is not in the game more than anything else because not enough Cubs votes were cast. If you are behind Yadier freaking Molina in the voting, something's up.
  10. They call him "medicore" however. I agree with most everything they write, but even after today's game Buehrle has a 3.86 ERA, which qualifies as solid.
  11. The Cubs have some kind of strange ability to beat Clemens (I can remember specific instances in each of the last two seasons where we surprisingly beat him) so I will play that card again. Cubs win.
  12. We got Crime Dog in late June 2001. We got Fred McGriff in late July 2001. Link He strung the Cubs out for a couple weeks before finally agreeing to the trade. Hm, well that shows how good my memory is.
  13. That's Tyson's contract too :x
  14. Serious list: C Barrett 1B Lee 2B Walker/Utley SS Tejada 3B Wright LF C Lee CF Granderson RF Guerrero SP Z, Prior, Santana, Schilling, Pedro RP Farnsworth, Eyre, Howry, Papelbon
  15. Barrett is not on the final vote block either. It's Capuano, Wagner, Abreu, Nomar and Chris Young from SD. The AL final vote will have a chance to give the Sox another undeserving All-Star in Pierzynski but if anyone other than Hafner gets that (unless it is Liriano I guess) then there's no justice in the world.
  16. To be fair, the players voted in Konerko over Travis Hafner (which is ridiculous), but Ozzie did take Mark Buehrle over Schilling (who has a better record and ERA).
  17. My only ND game this year will be Stanford... Troy Smith, Chris Leak, Brian Brohm, Ginn, Michael Bush, Steve Slaton, Sam Keller and Pat White round out Fox Sports's top 10 Heisman candidates after Quinn and Peterson, but at least at the start of the season it looks to me like a two-horse race between the latter two unless Smith keeps up the form he exhibited at the Fiesta (not entirely likely because it won't get much easier than ND's 2005 secondary). Marshawn Lynch, Cal? He's very good but he'd have to have an absolutely HUGE game in the first four or five to get his name on the map because I don't think many people know a lot about him.
  18. LoDuca: .286-3-24, 327/400/727 Barrett: .300-8-30, 361/493/854 Good call, fans.
  19. I want to call a moratorium on Maddux being called a future Hall of Famer until he stops pitching like a right-handed Glendon.
  20. C - Blanco 1B - Nevin 2B - Theriot SS - Womack 3B - Neifi LF - Bynum CF - Pierre RF - Pagan

  22. Why on earth is Murton batting behind Pagan?
