  1. I want to call a moratorium on Maddux being called a future Hall of Famer until he stops pitching like a right-handed Glendon.
  2. C - Blanco 1B - Nevin 2B - Theriot SS - Womack 3B - Neifi LF - Bynum CF - Pierre RF - Pagan
  3. My only ND game this year will be Stanford... Troy Smith, Chris Leak, Brian Brohm, Ginn, Michael Bush, Steve Slaton, Sam Keller and Pat White round out Fox Sports's top 10 Heisman candidates after Quinn and Peterson, but at least at the start of the season it looks to me like a two-horse race between the latter two unless Smith keeps up the form he exhibited at the Fiesta (not entirely likely because it won't get much easier than ND's 2005 secondary).
  4. Why on earth is Murton batting behind Pagan?
  5. One of my former students will be freshman on the ND squad this year. Granted he will not see playing time, but I'm forced to root for ND. This begs the question: Who? Demetrius Jones(QB).......so ND only has Brady Quinn not to mention they got the two other top freshmen quarterbacks coming in this season. So I may never get a chance to even see him play. I was pumped about Jones's commit, but the fact that Zach Frazer and Evan Sharpley are both probably ahead of him on the depth chart, and with Jimmy Clausen waiting in the wings, probably means Jones will get the Holiday/Battle/Godsey/Clark treatment and moved to receiver, where I'm sure he could be a good one.
  6. Considering the Cubs' history of signing accomplished relievers only to see them flame out utterly and spectacularly for reasons never having to do with injury over the last few seasons I'm surprised that you're surprised. It's gotten to the point when I am surprised if a Cubs signing actually DOES perform (like Jacque this season so far).
  7. Was shown right after AJP's homer, and pretty much summed up all our feelings on the season. A great poster and the guy should be proud of himself for making it.

  9. For the first time since the early 1990s, ND is almost unanimously a top 5 team in preseason, they have preseason 1st team All-Americas at two positions and leading candidates at many others, the best offensive mind in the sport coaching, a top 5 recruiting class coming in, etc. etc. Forgive my perceived boasting, but the chance to talk about something GOOD happening with one of my teams is one I always have to take.
  10. I guarantee that if the Cubs lose, Dusty is not fired.
  11. Statement schmatement, I'm sick of people trashing Cubs fans, effectively, for not being fair weather fans. Best comment of the day: Piniella talking about the wind blowing out after a Ramirez homer that would have gotten through a damn tornado. This year sucks. 63 days till Sept. 2nd and college football.
  12. "A World War II rematch on the pitch! England vs. Germany, this Saturday!"
  13. I can live with this only if we trade Tyson. There is no reason to have two of the exact same player on this team. Exact same? Are you joking? People aren't afraid to drive on Tyson. They think twice about driving on Ben. I'll take Wallace over Tyson for his reputation alone. Ben is much better at doing what he does than Tyson, but they are the same player: defensive specialists who don't score at all, can't shoot FTs, can block shots, etc. Just because Ben is twenty times better at it than Tyson doesn't mean they aren't the same type of player.
  14. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2506311 Wow, as if the Central wasn't good enough already
  15. What's wrong with chanting at a rival's field? I didn't see any Cubs fans pulling punches when we took over Turner Field at the 2003 NLDS. So they made Wrigley Field Comerica Park South?? So what?? IN 2003, we made Turner Field Wrigley Field South. I have no problems with fans turning an enemies ballpark (other team) into their own. Or like how Milwaukee is known as Chicago north. Atlanta = Wrigley South Denver = Wrigley West Milwaukee = Wrigley North Pittsburgh = Wrigley East
  16. Vazquez isn't crappy enough or left-handed enough to shut us out, but Maddux's gopher ball will make sure we lose this one. Sox win 6-3.
  17. I can live with this only if we trade Tyson. There is no reason to have two of the exact same player on this team.
  18. He lives in Louisiana, so he may not have had access to a computer since the game.
  19. Yes! Our Angel has come to save us! *crickets* Ok, lame joke, I know, but at least there's one less 2B on the roster that we have to worry about, though I would have felt much better if it said PEREZ officially DFA. Neifi, Womack. What's the difference? Neifi's OBP:.299; Womack's OBP: .342...not sensationally better; but better anyway. Womack gets on base more than Neifi or Pierre. Neifi: 2 years 5M
  20. .629 ERA. Yep. Won't be long now. If he really has a 0.629 ERA, then I definitely want him.
  21. The game is tomorrow I hope, not today. I'd hate to be embarrassed again today.
  22. Me too. Same with Notre Dame. And the Panthers. I just want another sport to start - any sport.
  23. As a Cubs fan, I never think we're going to score unless we at least have 2nd and 3rd 1 out. And even then I am skeptical.
  24. If we got Carlos for a 3/40 type deal with a fourth year option then I wouldn't mind that much even though we'd be overpaying. But that just isn't going to happen. And people who say we need CLee because he tears up Wrigley neglect the slight point that were he to play here full time he would not get to hit against CUBS pitching at Wrigley, thereby lowering his SLG. I will say this much for him, he seems like a fun guy as he always kids around with the LF bleacher folk when he comes out in the bottom of each inning.
