  1. Nirvana will pose formidable opposition to anyone they face in this tourney.
  2. It Ain't Me babe. CCR all the way.
  3. Thats what I was thinking. Same here. Me 3. Sorry, Carniby.
  4. Explaining why he's sticking with Grudz over...Walker? Who was Grudz competing with? That's the one and he was referring to Walker after the Cubs had signed both prior to 2004. i thought this was during the 04 season when walker had been injured and grudz was hitting decent and walker had just came back from injury around that time (maybe im just piecing together different instances) In 2004 it was actually the reverse, Walker had played well and Grudz came back from injury. I do not know at what time of the year that quote was made.
  5. Weather? :sunny: Weather, whatever. Sunny if we win. KC won 11 out of 16. Another reason for hope. That's not a sign for hope. What good is 11/16 when you are still just 30-54? It's just a sign that any crap team can have short bursts of decent results, but they are still very likely to remain a crap team when all is said and done. I don't believe we have a crap team. What else can you call the 28th best team out of 30 in baseball, a team that has a much worse W-L percentage than a team with about an eighth of our payroll (Florida) and, if switched divisions with KC, would no doubt be 30th?
  6. Neifi cannot be called insignificant as long as he starts the majority of baseball games for the Cubs and bats 2nd in the majority of those starts. A guy on pace for 300 ABs cannot be called insignificant in any sense. The fact that Neifi plays (almost always over someone who could play better and usually without cause) and the fact that he hits in a prime position in the lineup that is meant for setting up opportunities for Lee, Aramis, Barrett, Jock, etc. makes him VERY significant.
  7. Isn't he the guy who wrote Cubs Nation? One of my favorite books, and yes. He's a good author, great storyteller, solid as a fan, not so much as a sportswriter.
  8. This would have been a great spot for sublime. No Derwood, I won't stop bitching about sublime not making it. Yes, I know, I missed Sublime. SUE ME On probation for booster-related violations
  9. Wow, Carlos is EIGHT and THREE for this team. If he doesn't win a Cy or two in the next few years...
  10. My list: 1) Brown (not by that much) 2) Sanders 3) Payton 4) Smith And by the time his career is over, LT will pass Smith and quite possibly Payton depending how long he can maintain current performance. Another thing: The NFL didn't expand to a 16-game schedule until 1978, Payton's fourth year. How many more yards then, one wonders?
  11. It was I who referenced the third-year leap theory. And Simmons' stance on the Wallace signing would be absolutely correct if not for the slight fact that Ben Wallace can play more minutes, not get into foul trouble, and will serve as a leader on this team - all things Tyson couldn't or didn't do. I like Wilcox and if we could get him for Smith and Sweets I'd jump all over it. We all know Pax is good at getting his man.
  12. He uses the tried-and-tested line about how "Dusty didn't get thrown out at third last night". At some point, you have to see a pattern, though, RIGHT, Wojo?
  13. I refuse to vote for anything with an Osbourne in it, so Santana it is.
  14. Bob has been getting on Aramis in the booth for not running out fly balls all year long, and rightfully so in most cases.
  15. As I expected, DLee says it in a much more coherent and diplomatic way than Aramis. Lee for captain.
  16. Which leads one to the only possible reason to root for the Sox to win the Series again this year: There is simply nothing to copy from them OTHER than hitting a bunch of home runs, because that is what they do best.
  17. I'd vote Payton, Jim Brown and Barry Sanders ahead of Smith.
  18. By the end of this series it is likely that KC will be contracted from the Fecal League.
  19. Pierzynski officially voted in. So is Nomar. Absolutely unbelievable.
  20. It's been said already in this thread, but it needs to be put in all caps: CHRIS CAPUANO HAS THROWN 26 INNINGS OF BASEBALL AGAINST THE CHICAGO CUBS THIS SEASON. IN THOSE INNINGS THE CUBS HAVE NOT MANAGED A SINGLE RUN. NOT EVEN BY ERRORS. CLEARLY, SOMETHING IS PRETTY $&@*ING WRONG WITH THIS TEAM.
  21. How many players did Ozzie Guillen select? How many were White Sox? He had 7 picks. 4 of them, he had to use to rep every team. After that, he had 3 picks for whoever, and he took his guys. Add Maggs and its 3 of 4. Small sample size, but its not out of bounds to assume he would screw Mauer to make room for AJ given the chance. Especally since he screwed Liriano AND Schill to make room for Buehrle.
  22. huh? Same as Back button on your browser
  23. He does bat high-OBP Derek Jeter leadoff and low-OBP Robinson Cano low in the order, although that probably has more to do with reputation than OBP.
  24. I would trade any two of our bullpen pitchers (as long as it wasn't Eyre AND Howry) plus any two of our bench players for Freel.
  25. Trib mentioned Piniella and Fredi as options today. If Lou turns us down, here's hoping Hendry settles for Fredi.
