  1. In the end, even if we miss out on him, if we offer him something like 7/200 and it makes the Cards spend another 20 or 30 mill on him, it's still a good thing. I'm starting to wonder if the Marlins won't do that for us though anyway.
  2. Yeah, I think it changed to "other teams" from when I first saw it. Or maybe I'm already in "see what I want to see" mode. Either way, offer him 7/200 and see what happens.
  3. Oh boy, here we go.........Danny Knobbler of CBSSports says we'll offer Pujols a shorter term deal with more money per year to try and lure him away from the Cards.
  4. After signing Reyes, Marlins will now get agressive with signing Pujols, according to Stark. They have an offer out to Wilson as well. Damn, is it possible they get all 3?
  5. I hate to say it, but even at Colvin, I'm seeing what it takes for Headley before I'm even pulling THAT trigger. Stewart is purely a buy low guy and it could very easily wind up with LeMahieu as our starter at some point anyway.
  6. White Sox supposedly want Montero AND Banuelos for Danks. If this is true, we should have a very serious market for Garza. One year of Danks and KW wants THAT? I know it's a starting point and all, but damn.......
  7. The Rockies supposedly want either Colvin from the Cubs, Headley from the Pads, or Alvarez from the Pirates for Stewart. We're getting off really cheap aren't we? Plus, if Alvarez is available, we should be after him anyway.
  8. All it takes is one, but it really seems to me that teams are more interested in Buehrle than they are CJ. Maybe CJ's pricetag WILL come down after all.
  9. The main problem I see with this report on Fielder is that there is always a "surprise" team bidding and once that's revealed, then a "mystery" team enters the bidding as well. Boras won't let Prince box himself in too early. And this is still extremely early, because Pujols hasn't even signed yet.
  10. The A's signed OF/1B Sandor Pimentel today. There are still a decent amount of guys from BA's top 40 signing bonuses out there. Teams have until July before that cap goes into affect. It'd be great if we got Soler, maybe that Garcia Speck guy, some Pac Rim signings including the pitcher represented by Boras, or maybe Mauricio Silva or Manuel Gonzalez from the Dominican under contract before these rules take effect. This looks to be our last true shot at overspending before we're capped for good.
  11. Geez, I hope that guy is wrong obviously.
  12. Given the choice of Buehrle at 3/45 or CJ at 5/90, who do you want? How about Buehrle at 4/60 or CJ at 6/120? The 1st answer for me is very close, but I'd take CJ. The 2nd one isn't close and I'd take Buehrle.
  13. I wouldn't think so. DeJesus should get around 10. Castro 15ish, Fielder 35ish, Soto 20ish, Headley 12ish, Reddick 15 to 20ish, Lawrie 15ish, and Jackson could be anywhere from 12 to 20ish. Lots of balance, if you ask me. Definitely some question marks, but should have solid pop.
  14. Then why sign Kuroda? If you're just hoping you catch lightning in a bottle in 2012 with a push towards 2013, the rotation future of Cashner, Wells, even Samardzija are more important than the 1-2 marginal wins(if any) that Kuroda provides. I agree on Shark, disagree on Cashner and Wells. That said, I think Shark is better suited for the pen myself. Although I understand if he's a frontline starter, he's much more valuable than any role he'll ever have in the pen. So, use him as your long guy in this scenario. He'll work his way into some starts with injuries anyway. I want nothing more than for Cashner to be a starter, but I don't see him as one in 2012. He needs to build his arm strength back up. Hell, if you want to give him a few starts late in the year, I'm all for it. Whether it's at AAA or in the majors is dependent both on where he is and the team is as well. As far as Wells goes, I don't look at him as an answer for us or being in our longterm plans whatsoever. And I could be wrong there. But I think 2011 is him, not 2009/2010.
  15. I liked the trade for Greinke, in this way only: They got a top 50ish prospect in Escobar to fill their hole at SS. Yes, he sucks, but he WAS very highly thought of. Cain was supposed to fill CF for them and was a top 10 prospect on the Brewers. Odorizzi was the guy everyone thought had the huge upside and has since turned into a bigtime prospect. Jefferess was a flyer, but huge arm. So, I liked the idea of what they tried to do, but Escobar sucked, so it didn't work out for them. But if we basically get a top 50 guy, a top 100 guy, a top 300 guy, and a big upside guy for Garza, I'm probably going to be happy.
  16. TT, I agree with everything you just said. But I look at putting that team out there with the idea you've got lots of cash falling off again after the season is over with the main emphasis being put on 2013, not 2012 anyway. If we catch lightning in a bottle, then great. If not, you've got the money available and the pitching that's going to be out there, to make a huge splash next offseason.
  17. I kind of think the opposite. Sign him and Bedard, get Fielder and Headley. Offseason over and you've got a team that has a shot at the playoffs. Big money comes off the books again the following year, replace Kuroda with a big FA arm and maybe grab a 2nd one as well, with money from Dempster/Z. Offense still needs some help, but a trade for one other bat and you're basically there. On the other hand, if you DO trade Garza, he's a decent stopgap to where you can still throw a team out there with a chance to compete.
  18. He DID say he wanted to play only for the Dodgers or Angels at one point, but he's evidently wide open now after he's learned some about the whole free agency process.
  19. Good. He's the perfect fit. Very solid pitcher and no long term commitment. When Theo talks about building the right way, but putting a team that can be competitive out there every year, this is the exact type of signing he means. I didn't realize we tried to sign him back in 2007, before he came over here. Personally, I'd rather sign Kuroda than either Wilson or Buehrle and go after the big FA pitching next year.
  20. Cowley tweeted that Buehrle wants 3 years and a NTC and 2 NL teams appear willing to do this.
  21. According to some, Nats are seen as early favorites for CJ. If it takes them out of bidding on Prince, I'm all for this.
  22. Garza is a complete guess. Obviously so is the Soriano deal. Oakland could see it as an opportunity to unload one of their pitchers who's probably going to make close to 5 mill next year and may not even be ready for the start of the year. Plus it allows them to keep Gio/Cahill/McCarthy a little while longer. I think Soriano has decent value to an AL team at 3/12 still and think we may be surprised at the return, even if it seems like it's for an injured pitcher, albeit one who could eventually slot into the 2/3 slot in our rotation if things turned out right.
  23. I had put mine in a different thread, but I'll say we trade Soriano and 42 mill to Oakland for Dallas Braden. We'll sign Jorge Soler for 5 years and 17.5 mill. We'll sign Fielder for 7 years and 161 mill, with an 8th year vesting option. Lots of Garza rumors, biggest one for Hughes/Banuelos/Murphy from Yanks, but nothing is done at meetings. Compensation for Theo is Antigua, compensation for Jed/Jason is Suarez. Jay Jackson, Marwin Gonzalez, and Flaherty ALL get picked in Rule 5. We take Nick Barnese from Tampa.
  24. Why would the posting fee matter to him? It's not like he gets any of that money. Unless you meant by contract instead of posting fee. The blurb said he'd be disrespected if his posting fee isn't at least as high as Matsuzaka's. Said he has a huge ego. It's on MLBTR, I'm posting from my phone or I'd link it.
  25. I think we probably need to move on from this guy. His dad said tonight he probably won't make a decision until mid to late January. Also, supposedly he's quirky and will not like it if his posting fee is less than Masuzaka's was.
