  1. Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez for Angel Pagan is the rumored trade.
  2. Wouldn't baseball have to sign off on that if it were the Dodgers? Or is that bit over? No idea. Maybe MLB gave them a certain payroll not to exceed heading into the year? I just found it strange they're backloading guys like Capuano. Coletti had said earlier in the offseason they would not be restricted from going after the big guys. Although he did make a comment on Fielder about offering him 3 mill or so for the first year and backloading it. So, I have no clue where they stand financially, but if MLB is looking at it from an overall 2012 payroll thing and not longterm, then I think it's possible.
  3. Zambrano? I think it's for another reliever. Described as a change of scenery deal, I'm doubting we're involved, because Marmol doesn't seem to be a guy that's considered a bad contract, as is kind of implied by "change of scenery".
  4. I think it's either the Nats or the Dodgers. And yes, I know most will totally disagree with this, nothing about McCourt surprises me. They've backloaded all of their tiny deals already and look like they could go into next year with an 85 mill payroll. If they're being sold anyway, I could see certainly see an extremely backloaded deal to where Pujols doesn't make more than 10 mill or so in year 1 and even have a ton of their offer deferred much later. At least as much as is allowed. But, I don't think any of us truly know what they're restricted to right now, so they've always been in the back of my mind. That said, I hope it's the Nats and I hope they get him, if it IS them. But I have a feeling it's the Dodgers for some reason.
  5. Jon Rauch looks like he's headed to the Mets.
  6. I don't see us heavily involved with Pujols either, but with Theo, nothing's going to surprise me either. The Marlins are certainly showing and telling everyone how serious they are. The Cards don't have to say how serious they are, the whole world already knows it. We could be the wildcard in all of this and it's stayed quiet as hell, because of how Theo works. I don't think we're coming down to the wire here with them, but who knows?
  7. Yeah, but I'm pretty sure they've already said they won't. I think Berkman moves back to 1B and maybe they go after Rollins and Buehrle with the Pujols' money that's unspent.
  8. If Hendry were still our GM I honestly think we'd have Pujols on a 10 year contract for 275 mill. Backloaded bigtime.
  9. With Boras, nothing surprises me. He could sign the next day or this thing could last into January. My guess is if Pujols' resolves by tomorrow, Fielder takes until the week before Christmas.
  10. Levine said in his chat today that the Cubs won't be scared off by the pricetag on Cespedes or Soler. Soler isn't eligible for another couple of weeks to be signed. If I remember correctly, Cespedes should have eligibility within a week or maybe sooner, based on previous reports.
  11. I get the sense that Pujols told the Cards long ago that he'll check everything out and if they'll pay him within a certain amount of the best offer, he's staying. That said, part of me thinks he's not gotten close from them what the Marlins have offered.
  12. Whut. I just meant I was expecting more things getting done. By all teams, but as was just said, this ain't the trade deadline either. I was thinking since teams had had a little longer to evaluate and meet FA this offseason, I thought we'd be a lot further down the road than we are. It's December 6th. Yeah, evidently I'm not extremely patient.
  13. I honestly don't think KW understands that how long someone is under contract can either help or hurt what their value is. I wonder what they want for Beckham?
  14. It wouldn't surprise me if the Yanks would give us Banuelos or Betances for Marshall. I think I'd prefer trading him too. Because unless he wants to stick around on a 3 year 12 millish contract, we should probably trade him, since it's likely he's worth more now than midseason. On the open market, he's going to have teams thinking of him as a closer and he's also going to have some teams looking at him as a starter. Basically, he'll be extremely sought after.

  16. Hell, I was thinking we'd make 3 or 4 moves. I'm disappointed for sure. Not even at the Cubs, all of baseball. This hasn't been worth the buildup this year on any level. At this point, I could see us announcing Wood's contract, or maybe a trade for Stewart. Other than that, the Rule 5 Draft looks like it may be the most interesting thing for us to pay attention to. I'm just wanting something to get done, maybe tonight? But I doubt it, I figure whatever we do, if anything happens tomorrow night. Everything seems tied to Pujols. Or to Wilson. And since they haven't signed, it's at a standstill.
  17. I'm pretty sure GM's talk well into the AM, if a situation dictates it to. Jonah Keri wrote a piece though, basically saying not to expect to see any GM's. You may see some writers though. Pretty sure Kevin Goldstein was tweeting from the bar late last night. I meant what day of the week, not time of the day. Co-worker was there last night. Said he saw Theo, Ozzie Guillen, Cashman, Mariners GM, Heath Bell, and a slew of writers. Pretty sure they'll be leaving mid day or so on Thursday. Unless they've got something working and have to stay. Tomorrow night should be really cool, probably lots of stuff going on, since yesterday and today have both been very tame.
  18. The Marlins are certainly "going for it". Ozzie will try everything in his power to make things work with him. It's not like they'll just go out and trade him. But IF things got to that point, they'd be wanting major league talent to replace him. I can't imagine them trading for prospects. My guess is they'd try to get a top of the rotation pitcher for him. One bad year isn't going to deter the asking price on a guy like that. Garza for Hanley? May would be our only shot.
  19. Good lord. Come on Dale, you're laying it on pretty thick.

  21. According to Stark, the teams looking for closers are the Reds, Mets, Pads, Angels, and Red Sox. The Rangers and Rays could add one as well, but it'd have to be the right guy. On the other hand, here are the closers left on the market: Francisco Rodriguez. Ryan Madson, Frank Francisco, Francisco Cordero, and Jon Rauch. So if we're going to trade Marmol, it better happen soon, or musical chairs will take over and teams needs get filled.
  22. If it comes down to it, I can see the Cubs going 6 years. Maybe even 7. But I could also see the Mariners giving him the 8/200 he supposedly wants.
  23. The Cubs could pay all of Z's salary and they would get laughed at if they asked for Morrison. He may get dealt, but it'd be for a Gio Gonzalez or one of the other A's guys.
  24. Marlins system kind of sucks. A package from them would more likely start with Morrison. Not sure whether Nolasco makes sense for us, but I'm sure they'd try sending him. Personally, I think Z becomes much more of an option for them, if they do get Pujols. We'd eat most of the contract probably, he's buddies with Ozzie, and maybe they'd send us Matt Dominguez in return.
  25. Damn. I know Santos being under contract for seemingly forever helps his trade value, Molina would have walked into our system as the top right handed starter prospect we have. I wonder if we could have gotten him for Marmol?
