  1. I wouldn't be surprised if the team execs do some of it just to [expletive] with these guys. It's probably hectic enough trying to hammer out these deals and jocky for position and then you have these media pudwacks marching around bugging them every 5 minutes. It wouldn't surprise me at all if teams send down some flunky to pass off some faulty info, just to see how fast it shows up on Twitter. It's probably a part of some drinking game the execs are playing all week.
  2. It should be posted here, because it was reported, but damn, Davidoff and these other reporters have been grasping at straws for a few days now. A team is in, 5 minutes later the same team is out is being reported by someone else. Now Davidoff is referencing a "a friend". Just a tad frustrated, I guess.
  3. And he evidently thinks Go Cubs Go is a snazzy, little ditty.
  4. You mean the one from two nights ago or was there something newer last night? Hell, I'm the one who posted it and I honestly don't remember. Maybe it was from Monday night. There was only one rumor about the actual offer. RammyFanny came on and said the guy's an excellent poster, but not the guy that definitely has sources. He may, but nothing's panned out. MarlinBystro is the guy that's definitely legit and while this guy put up the Marlin signal, I don't believe he's weighed in at all on this. But, looking at those parameters and speculating a bit, if THIs is even close to what we offered, I can certainly see why Pujols is having a tough time making his mind up.
  5. If it's 9 years and the same money, that makes it even a better deal though. If the money is actually around 220, the rumored deal the Cubs may have out there matches up very good. 29 to 33 mill per, 15 to 20 mill buyout on 6th year. If you take the high end of that, it's 185 for 5. Only leaving him 35 mill away from the top end and 5 years to recoup it. The rumor , remember, came from PSD last night, not varifiable obviously, but from a good poster at least. Why hasn't this thing happened yet? There has to be more going on than what we think, or else he'd already be resigning with the Cards or taking his talents to South Beach. Which, by the way they're acting, isn't going to happen.
  6. Maybe it's still 2. Bell may not count, since he's not costing a team a draft pick to sign. The Pads still get their comp picks, but Bell and all closers other than Papelbon and a few position players like Willingham and Cuddyer fell into this grouping. I'm sure the Marlins must have at least one to use up, or we would have heard something by now anyway.
  7. I think it used to be a maximum of 3 Type A's? Not sure though. I wish the Marlins had signed Wilson instead of Buehrle. Now, they can still go get a 1B, if those rules were right. It may have had something to do with how many Type A's you lost as well, to where you could sign more if you lost some as well.
  8. Man, Bedard only got 4.5 mill? That's a guy I wish we had gotten. Good move for the Pirates.
  9. The Shields trade isn't anything the Rays seem like they'd do. First, they're not going to add payroll in a trade involving him. Second, they'd almost definitely target young cheap guys or upper level prospects. thirdly and most importantly, other teams in the league have young cheap guys or upper level prospects they CAN deal for a guy like Shields. We don't match up well with them at all.
  10. Joe Strauss says Cards offer around 220.
  11. The Cards had Pujols on a well below market contract. If they lose him, the only thing they can do is get pissed at their owner for losing him. Because it certainly looks like he's giving them every opportunity to keep him.
  12. Well yeah. What I mean is if we wanted to go out and spend 30 mill on a bunch of under 23 year old IFA, we can still do that until July. I don't doubt we're going to have scouts everywhere between now and then either.
  13. Geraldo Concepcion is a Cuban lefty who's 19. The Cubs, Yankees, Phillies, and Rangers are connected to him. He's under the radar, but has applied for eligibility and should have it very soon. It'd be a great way to take advantage of "last minute" IFA spending before the new rules kick in. Between him and that Garcia Speck guy, it'd be great to amp up our pitching in the minors. Along with some of the Dominican arms that haven't signed yet, silva and Gonzalez. Then, of course, there's Jorge Soler, who's probably a couple of weeks away from being able to sign. Bottom line though, is if we want to give one final boost to our system without penalty ramifications, it's now or never, and there's guys out there who can help us out.
  14. If that's true and I think it's a pretty big "if", then come on Fish and give us a Lebron moment we can all enjoy at least.
  15. He probably thinks we should sign him and give him to the Red Sox for free as Theo compensation. Seriously, how does a Red Sox beat reporter get this info? My guess is there isn't a single reporter anywhere who truly has a clue as to what's going on tonight.
  16. Seriously, can Morales still play? If so and we miss out here, he's a guy I'd like. He's not even sure he'll play again though, right?
  17. It's awesome we have a growing front office, full of extremely competent, very smart guys. It's times like these you've got a multitude of meetings going on at the same time probably. Can you imagine Hendry in this situation? He had Bush and who knows if he even had anyone else with him? They didn't have much choice but to concentrate on one thing at a time most likely.
  18. I'll go ahead and say I don't know the rules on deferring money, other than I think you can only defer a certain percentage longterm, but in a case like Pujols, you're damn right. It's a really good idea and I had forgotten about that being an option. Still like a shorter term deal. If possible. If not, deferring money to give us some extra room is a great idea.
  19. 10/220 would be fine with me. But, I think 10/275 is much more likely to be where this thing ends at. It's 33.33 mill over 6 or 27.5 over 10. To me, I figure it's easier to cover up or account for 6 mill less in spending over the 6 years than it would be 27.5 mill of the same for 4 years.
  20. To me, that's ideal actually. We just have to have the money available to spend money elsewhere as well. Because in signing a Pujols, the clock is already ticking, so you've got to capitalize immediately or at least very soon. I'd hope we have a team truly ready to compete within 2 years, if we get him.
  21. Good deal for the Giants. I guess with Pagan and Cabrera, they're out on Beltran for sure.
  22. Frank Francisco gets 2/12 from Mets. Lyle Overbay looks like he's a Diamondback again.
  23. Seriously, other than Davearm, is anyone here actually going to be pissed if we gave Pujols 10 years and 275 mill? I would know it's going to haunt us later on, but I'd still be happy at first. It IS Albert Pujols afterall.
