  1. There's been speculation that this is a way to gain info on other teams, like Al Davis used to do. Maybe get opinions on Cutler.
  2. Switching topics, Bourn, Lohse, and Soriano are all Boras clients, qualified, and out of work currently. Tim Dierkes(MLBTR) mentioned yesterday that players can sign and not cost a draft pick after the draft. That's early June. Bourn will definitely get offers, but I'm not so sure on Lohse and I doubt Soriano will. I could see both those guys being held out until then. Kind of screws up the deadline market if you've got stuff like that going on, but Boras is likely to try everything he can to make MLB consider immediate changes to this new system and this could be a good way to do that.
  3. First, we're on his no-trade list. He evidently repeatedly said he'd veto a deal to the Mariners, same with the Red Sox. We could be in the same boat, for all we know. If not, it looks like Arizona is targeting pitching, which we don't have. Our package would have to be centered around Baez and another really solid positional prospect, unless we got a 3rd team involved. My optimism has kind of disappeared. My guess is he's a Brave by this time next week.
  4. Dennison's interview is supposed to be today. Not sure who else hasn't been interviewed yet. Clements was last night. Singletary? Not that I want him, by any stretch, but not sure if he's been interviewed yet and the McCaskey's are the ones wanting him to be considered.
  5. No clue if true or not, but Jimmy Johnson tweeted that Marc Trestman is getting the Bears job. If true, I think I like it?
  6. One of the Braves beat writers came up with one of Delgado or Teheran, Nick Ahmed, one of Venters or O'Flaherty and Cody Gearrin as a package that could work. If so, we've got to be able to find a 3rd team to involve, because that's beatable. Then again, Upton could keep rejecting trades until they accept one from the Braves, I guess. Texas is moving on. At this stage in the offseason, the market can't be as big as it was back in November.
  7. I agree it's not AS good of a package, but its not FAR off. Granted, if Arizona is targeting pitching, we'd have to find a 3rd team.
  8. If its a negotiating ploy as to why we're on his NTC, it would be impossible for us to make a deal, if pitching is what they want. Heyman said it was Walker as the lead piece. In value, Baez is in the same realm. We really don't have a guy in the same value range as Franklin(probably a top 75ish type). Furbush and Pryor are both quality arms, maybe Russell and one of Dolis/Cabrera could be close value-wise. Closest thing to Franklin we've got is Villanueva, I guess? At any rate, odds aren't likely they'd want the two main pieces to be infielders. We'd need to vet a 3rd team involved.
  9. Valbuena gets 930k on a one year deal and Lillibridge and Darnell McDonald sign minor league deals.
  10. Pompei is saying LaCanfora is off on Kelly.
  11. LaCanfora says Bears have interest in Brian Kelly.
  12. What a joke. I had a tiny bit of hope Raines would sneak in during a year that set up like this.
  13. Dave Cameron threw out a couple of packages he thought could get Stanton: STL-Craig, Taveras, Miller, Rosenthal, and Lynn. Tex- Profar, Olt, Harrison, Holland, and Martin. Sea- Seager, Saunders, Walker, Paxton, and Franklin. Sooooooo, if he's in the ballpark of what it'd take, I stay far, far, far away. Wow, that's a [expletive] ton.
  14. Watkins has been relatively solid at every level and has shown improvement each year. Whitenack had half of one solid season before going down with TJS. He's 24 now and needs to regain his control in AA. Watkins is younger, will start in AAA and seems much more likely to carve out a major league career than Whitenack will even if his upside is slightly higher. I'll take Watkins all day.
  15. McCarron's GF has gone from having 500 followers on Twitter, to over 50,000 in one half of football. Not exaggerating.
  16. BA's list should be out this morning. I'll predict they go Baez, Almora, Soler, Vizcaino, Villanueva, Jackson, Vogelbach, Johnson, Candelario, and Paniagua.
  17. Toonster, I agree that's a lot going on for this time of year. Very likely too much. That said, I think adding Bourn alone puts us around .500 on paper. Personally, I think the Garza/Olt scenario is a wash, due to the solidish replacement we'd have for Garza and the total blackhole that Olt would be replacing. Adding Upton would likely put us around 85 wins? My guess anyway. At any rate, plenty of variance to be in contention. Having the pieces to trade for both Upton and Price? Won't be easy obviously. Progression from the farm is needed, but also expected. But I see your point. And if either, or both, require top end pitching, we'd have to get really creative. Cano? I'm much more worried about him being a Dodger next year, than a Yankee myself. But in a scenario where we've added Upton and Price already(early offseason trade for Price), I think we'd be on even ground as far as favorable destinations go.
  18. ABTY(not a football insider, but solid enough with baseball to where I think this needs mentioning) says he's heard DeCamillis will be asked back for a second interview.
  19. Dilfer criticized RG3 for not knowing how to play hurt. Trent, you didn't know how to play healthy. STFU.
  20. Shanahan should be fired as far as I'm concerned. He Bud Kilmered RG3.
  21. Yeah, I can't see us having our choice of pitching, but going with a high risk OFer.
  22. True. That said, I read an article in USATODAY on these two from Friday that didn't exactly paint a glowing picture. According to a writer, neither is as good of a prospect as Leonys Martin. Diaz has average skills across the board. Alvarez had the one good year and has fallen off since. Some teams are even looking at him as a pitcher. On Diaz, the writer said there's no comparison between him and Alexei Ramirez. His agen, Jaime Torres, thinks he could start out in the majors. Of course, that guy said the same thing about Concepcion. Neither is expected to come close to a Puig type deal. Unless I hear better things, Alvarez is off my radar. Diaz? Sure, he'd be a nice add, but with our depth at SS throughout the org, unless we massively overpay, I'd think he'd go to a team he'd have a better chance with.
  23. What do we expect out of Rondon? I'm envisioning a long man we hide a bunch. Try and develop into a set up type for the future. With his injury history, I can't see him as a SP anymore. Am I misguided here?
  24. I went Watkins, Loux, and Wells. Personally, until I see results from Whitenack post-TJS, he's not in my top 30. Wasn't truly a believer beforehand that he had more than back end of the rotation ability.
  25. In increasing order of legitimacy as an insider at PSD: ABTY JoeyBY Marlin Bistro I'd give Marlin 1st by far, based on history, he's broken quite a few things. Nothing yet this offseason, unless I'm missing one. His is a direct source.ABTY has been the MVP over there this offseason though. He's been extremely informative. His info comes from a wide range, not from Cubs sources, at least for the most part. Joeby? All I see is a guy making predictions on guys it makes sense we're after.
