  1. Nah, Jersey's talking about me (among others)and its true. I didn't think, nor want guys signed to longterm deals before we were ready to compete. No defending that either. E-Jax isn't old though, nor a ton of money. I doubt anyone thinks his 29-32 seasons will see a bunch of decline. I'm happy we got him and think it pushes us up a season from where I had been thinking.
  2. I've definitely been outspoken and didn't think we'd see any longterm deals handed out. But is E-Jax even a longterm deal? Its 4 years and he'll be 32 at the end of it. The big question for me was whether it'd be 2014 or 2015 when we looked like a contender heading into the year. A signing like this makes 2014 much more likely, in my mind. I really didn't invision us getting 4 of the top 15 FA SP. It's really methodical and now they can wait for a desperate team to give up the goods for Garza.
  3. Heading into last year is different than looking back at what some guys actually DID last year. Shark was a total question mark, no one expected Dempster to be as good as he was, most likely expected a bit more out of Garza. Soto and Byrd flat out sucked when they were counted on to be average. Soriano overperformed on what was expected. It's all over the map. The way Kyle has broken things down IS the most honest way to look at things. We're heading into next year on paper slightly better than we were last year. To me, the difference is the depth now, even after a potential selloff, will keep us from trotting out the Jason Berkens of the world and therefore keeping us from completely tanking the second half.
  4. I've seen some writers mention they're looking at Schierholtz as a 4th OFer. If anything, my guess is the price for Soriano is sky high and it'll be hard to be pissed, if he's dealt.(I doubt he will be personally) It appears they're still looking at pen arms too, my guess is we add a bullpen arm, a backup 3B, and an OFer of some sort. Unsure if its a starter or not though. Only trade I really see is Marmol honestly, but I'm hopeful a team gets antsy on Garza in the spring. Would like to see a young player trade that nets us more pitching, guess thats a possibility still.
  5. Getting 4 of the top 15 SP this offseason, when so many teams had needs(many multiple) is phenomenal work. Maybe Texas panics now and gives us a decent offer for Garza? Would you deal him straight up for Olt, right now?
  6. Awesome. As for trading Shark for Gyorko, Kelly, and Portillo? Not enough for me. Wouldn't trade him for Headley either. That said, now I'd try to find a package of minor leaguers TO trade for him. Just don't think Pads are ready to go down that road yet.
  7. ABTY said thats who the Marlins wanted from us. Supposedly he had let it be known he wouldn't be happy moving off SS.
  8. We haven't even added Schierholtz yet. If we DO get Jackson as well, it'd put us at 43. Rosario seems like a guy we're likely just trying to sneak thru waivers, ala Gutierrez and Putnam, so he's one guess. Most teams have their 3B issue solved now, we could risk(if you call it a risk) taking Stewart off, with his contract not being guaranteed. 3rd one is very iffy: Clevenger, Raley, Concepcion, Lendy Castillo, and Campana are the possibilities(Rusin's ineligible). There's reasons to keep each of those guys, so maybe we actually have a trade coming up.
  9. Would you rather have Bourn or Ellsbury on a longterm deal?
  10. My guess is one of the 3(Feldman, Baker, Villanueva) ends up as a damn good signing. Hard to believe we're getting all 3, considering how much of a SP need there is out there.
  11. My honest guess is it's protection on Garza's injury and Baker maybe not being ready to start the season. We need "real" depth, not the Rodrigo Lopezes of the world. Doubt trading away SP currently is on the agenda. Unless a team gets crazy on Garza.
  12. Cubs signed Cory Wade to a minor league deal.
  13. Schierholtz hasn't even been added yet to the 40 man. If this is done basically, I'm not even sure that this is done officially for a while. The league offices are closed from Christmas to New Years, aren't they?
  14. Have there been serious reports that the front office has looked into trading Starlin or have they just been Kaplan and Rogers blowing smoke? I could be forgetting, but I don't recall any serious smoke concerning a Starlin trade. Just the typical"they'll listen on anyone" stuff. I think the only time his name has been attached to a rumor was with Justin Upton and it was purely speculative.
  15. There's not an actual reason to carry a lefty in the rotation, right?
  16. Cameron mentioned we signed all 3 of his value signings. Not bad. But I still want Edwin.
  17. To me, its the biggest mistake by the FO, so far, in not dealing him already. But, if he pitches well, its possible to get a solid return at the deadline or at least the comp pick, if he walks. If we miss on Edwin though and Garza stays healthy, if he'd take 5/75 without a NTC, its not a bad thing for us.......
  18. And it'd take a ridiculous offer to make me trade Shark. I do think he's got more upside still. Take away the experimental month and allow him to pitch in September, we may have had a 5 WAR SP.
  19. My idea is based on getting Edwin. If we miss on him, I'm probably against dealing Garza.
  20. And yeah, Garza would need a 2011 type season to get 100(or close to it). But with Lincecum, Hughes, and Johnson being the 3 best SP on the FA market, other than Garza and pitching always at a premium, if he pitches well, I could see him getting a very large deal from someone.
  21. True, but how else can we acquire a true ace? The good thing about this though, is we'll have a better feel for things at midseason. We'll know if the Mariners are contending or not and we'll know how Garza looks as well. If he looks great, I guess theres at least a chance we're in contention anyway. And we can decide to extend him at any point, if we've got confidence in him. As for Price, we'll have an idea, based on how our system is looking at that point, if we'll have the goods that Tampa may not be able to pass up.
  22. You think Garza's going to get 100M? If he's healthy this year, given the state of next years FA class, I think its at least a solid possibility.
  23. I want to hear if Bruno is going to be given a real chance behind the plate. That would enhance his value to me quite a bit. As for Reggie Golden, I've got him as a borderline top 50 guy right now. Yeah, he could make a jump, but his development curve has been set back quite a ways, since we drafted him. Out of shape in year one and early season ending injury in year two. Time for him to get it together.
  24. Price or Felix is the ace I'm figuring we'll target. We'll have enough in the system to get either one, when they become available. I'd LOVE to have one of them, to go with Shark, E-Jax, AND Garza obviously, not sure if the payroll can take it and improve the offense a ton as well though, hence why I'd move Garza.
  25. To me, Jackson likely comes in around half the price of Garza on an extension. I'd rather have Jackson and the package of prospects you can get for Garza(assuming he's healthy) and the extra flexibility to go get an actual ace as well.
