  1. I went ahead and voted for 3 for the 1st time: In order, Alcantara, Candelario, and Torreyes.
  2. If thats the 5-8 in our lineup, I think it'd give league average offensive production. Castillo being above average and Stewart being below. Barney and the platoon should be average anyway. But that 5-8 at least isn't vomit worthy, in my mind.
  3. Is that based on him covering hockey? I don't follow hockey at all, but I don't remember him ever covering the Cubs before now. So far, I'm not sure he's been anything other than generic, for the Cubs. Haven't noticed any outright stupidity yet anyway.
  4. Whats the breaking point on E-Jax? I'd actually be OK at 4/60, I think. 5/75 and I'm out though most likely. Honestly though, I think if given the choice, I'd prefer him to Annibal on a longterm deal.
  5. Hmm, if they add Morse, it'd seem that Soriano gets dealt. Trading an arm for a bat? Marmol for Morse, maybe? Can't imagine we'd trade Travis Wood for him, nor do the Nats need him, for that matter. A lineup of Bourn/Barney/Rizzo/Morse/Castro/Castillo/Stewart/DeJesus, I guess? Rotation of Shark/Garza/EJax/Feldman/Baker. Not bad. Playoffs? I'd still say very, very doubtful personally. But you could find yourself in a position to add down the stretch and enhance it.
  6. It's not going to surprise me at all if we wind up with Nick Swisher. Solid from both sides of the plate, can play multiple positions, seemingly good clubhouse guy, excellent plate discipline, and evidently a market that doesn't include the major market teams.
  7. Jumbo: My grouping of those guys would be something like this(not in individual order)- Candelario/Watkins/Szczur/Alcantara/Underwood/Torreyes/Hernandez/Amaya in Group 1. Group 2 for me is Wells/Loux/Blackburn/Martin/Cabrera/Ha/Zych/Scott. Group 3 for me is Carreno/Bruno/McNeil/Rosario. Everyone else falls in behind them.
  8. Can't link from my cell, but Brett posted an article that's very sad. An 18 year old RHP, Yerinson Tatis, that may have been signing a 450k deal with us the following day, was killed. He had been released from the Royals earlier in the year, it appears.
  9. Yeah, he said Garza, Marmol, and Russell were all involved, as were Olt and Leonys Martin. He had listed what our lineup would have looked like, post-deadline. I figure one or two of Holland, Perez, and Buckel would have been involved as well, but he didn't list what the rotation could have looked like.
  10. Acosta? I think of Serrano. He no hit curveball. Straightball, he like it very much. He definitely has some contact issues, that likely keep him from making it to the states for another year anyway. Right now, its hard not to look at him as a giant miss already for me.
  11. Jessie Rogers? [expletive]. Not sure why I was thinking Phil worked for ESPN and not the Trib. At any rate, I like Sharma a lot.
  12. Meanwhile, Phil Rogers has no clue how a split deal works, as evidenced by his Twitter remarks. Sahadev Sharma taking his place is beyond logical.
  13. Oakland is evidently signing Nakajima to play SS. Very doubtful Barney is included in a trade now.
  14. If we're paying all but 10 mill of Soriano's deal, I want better than a DeRosa type package. By a good bit honestly. Power is at a premium and a team vetting Sori for 2/10 in this market is a steal.
  15. I've had an about face, in a way. I wouldn't have had either of Vitters or Maples in my top 10 and would have had the other 9 and one of Candelario or Torreyes to round out my top 10. That said, my vote goes to Alcantara. If Didi freaking Gregorius can basically net Trevor Bauer, a guy like Alcantara could easily surprise and become that type of value himself. He was having a breakout year offensively and supposedly has the tools defensively as well. I'll take that, because I guess SS just have that much trade value, the higher they move up.
  16. I have this poll closing tomorrow but I think we can safely set up the run-off now itself. Anyone disagree? Johnson's been on a late run, may not need to. I'm fine with it though, may as well start vote for 12 as well, if we do the runoff.
  17. They certainly are giving up a ton, but damn. What an offseason for them. Melky, Reyes, Bonifacio, Johnson, Buehrle, and Dickey.
  18. If so, I think the voting for #12 could be held simultaneously Good point.
  19. 18-42 record, post-deadline. 43-59 prior to it. A 70+ win team would have happened last year and could have been slightly better than that, with a few breaks. The way to probably look at this isn't a full seasons worth of stats, but comparing stats accumulated prior to the deadline versus expectations currently.
  20. I don't think we're in danger of actually NEEDING to add guys yet, but I could certainly see some or all of Tayler Scott, Carreno, Ha, Zych, and Trey Martin making the top 30.
  21. Is everyone going to freak out if we sign Brent Lillibridge to be our 25th man? He's making a decision soon and its between 3 NL teams.......
  22. If we add Edwin Jackson, a solid bullpen arm, and find a legit CF, I could see a .500 team, depending on whether Soriano is dealt and what his replacement is.
  23. By the way, in neither case do I think Ellsbury or Granderson get dealt, but they have been mentioned as trade possibilities. If thats the case, it makes it that much easier to move Soriano, by taking out other options obviously. Especially when both those teams may still be adding OF help to what they've got.
  24. How is it that Granderson and Ellsbury are on the market, yet the Yankees and Red Sox are looking for OF help? If they deal those guys, they'll need replacements, won't they? Not to mention, the Yanks need a DH/OF anyway, with Ichiro/Gardner/Granderson and the Red Sox may not want to go into the year with Kalish as a starter, as they would be doing, right now.
  25. You've got Swisher, Bourn, Ross, and Hairston left on the FA market. You've potentially got Granderson, Ellsbury, Fowler, Boesch, Willingham, Kubel, and Crisp rumored to be available potentially. And you've got the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Orioles, White Sox, Tigers, Indians, Twins, Rangers, Mariners, Braves, Phillies, Mets, Pirates all looking for OF/DH help. We'll have chances to trade him, if its in our plans.
