  1. So very right-handed. Hard to construct a balanced lineup if Belli is replaced by a righty. You just have to stagger Happ, Busch and PCA amongst the 6 RHH.
  2. And those 170+ PAs include a very normal .290 babip and an ! 11% K rate. I would covet Amaya if he were on another team. Not saying they shouldn't look to improve, I just don't think there are that many clear improvements that could be available, and if they pencil him in as the primary catcher for '25, I won't be upset.
  3. Amaya after losing the leg kick was a 124 wRC+ bat. Not saying he's a lock for that production but struggling young players who make adjustments and get better are a real thing.
  4. I only proposed that because I think the Tigers could still field a competitive team next season while setting themselves up for a sustained run. Skubal will likely be gone in FA after 25. A deal centered around Horton, Wicks/Brown and Alcantara or along those lines would be productive for both teams.
  5. With the logjam of top 100 guys in AAA and a set OF if Bellinger returns, does it make sense to overwhelm the Tigers for the one year of Skubal?
  6. Alcantara has 143 PAs at Iowa this year and has posted a 124 wRC+ Every stop in which he's had at least that many PAs: 2022 (A) 124 wRC+ 2023 (A+) 124 wRC+ 2024 (AA) 124 wRC+ 2024 (AAA) 124 wRC+
  7. I'm just saying that them being 7th in runs scored despite not having a particularly loaded lineup is partially due to variance. Sequencing, luck, clutchness, however you look at it. The fact that people here are gnashing teeth over the offense and the pitching, yet, as you just laid out, it's been their baserunning and defense (also strengths of the Cubs) that have helped Milwaukee run away with things.
  8. It's not a fun answer, but variance is such a big part of this sport. Yes, you try to compensate by filling all the gaps, but the fact is Milwaukee ran away with the division and they have ONE qualified player over an .800 OPS. They gave Brice Turang (.675 OPS) 590 PAs and Sal Frelick (.648 OPS) 504 PAs The Cubs had 3 SP who would have been the Brewers best. Find holes and plug them but sometimes variance is the real enemy.
  9. The hell is with the Suzuki talk? He is the best hitter in the NL central.
  10. Can the organization please have hit the jackpot with Cam Smith? It would be so lovely to have a straight-to-superstar type.
  11. A 126wRC+ PCA with a long career is a H.O.F.
  12. Owen Cassie has a hell of a ceiling.
  13. Really like Cam Smith's swing.
  14. It would be oh so lovely for this organization to have a monster bat develop out of nowhere.
  15. Busch is 15th in the NL in OPS. IN 2003, that spot was occupied by....Sammy Sosa. Offensive #s aren't what they were but relative value is the same. It's pretty wild to see that there are 13 players in the NL with an OPS over .800. In 2019 there were 40.
  16. Yeah, took the family to Kaufmann Saturday and had a pleasant experience. The 10 square miles of concrete isn't my bag, though.
  17. Morel was my favorite cub. I'm still very bullish on his future. Think he becomes a passable defense somewhere on the field, and the bat is going to get louder. It is hard to dislike this trade, but I'm close. I will say, those who went on ad nauseum about Christopher having 0 trade value might want to take some time to reflect.
  18. I'm going to hold tight to the opinion that trading Morel would be a mistake. As said, he's pre-arb, has already made a significant adjustment at the plate (K/BB) and hits the ball incredibly hard. He's one final adjustment from being an offensive superstar, and though he may never take that step, he costs nothing but PAs on what is currently a middling team. Give him those PAs and see if he keeps growing.
  19. They obviously have had '25 targeted as the 'arrival' of their formidable stream of prospects. The hope being they could be a piecemeal playoff team this year, one not married to too many veterans who would dam the river of talent on its way.
  20. I feel almost certain they will have some quality PAs. That's the way it's going. Whether that means 2 or 3 runs and a narrow loss or 0 runs and an ass kicking is the only mystery.
  21. As a marketing phenomenon, Soto isn't in the same ballpark, no. Ohtani's existence has grown the game globally. His jersey is already the greatest selling of all time. He could play one season at Wrigley and that merch would sell forever. The ROI for signing him dwarfs any other player on the planet.
  22. I loved those Thibs teams so much and they've just obliterated all the goodwill built during that run.
