  1. The PAs have been encouraging for the most part. Some timing issues, same as a number of guys in their first few games, but excellent idea of the zone.
  2. Yeah, he's dealing with a groin strain.
  3. Good grief, I'm tired of speculating about this.
  4. Since adding Tucker (and especially with no extension) I've held that Jed simply has to be exploring trades for a TOR pitcher ala King or Cease. With that move, they're in the same league as the Braves.
  5. Why Rea over Assad? Javier has better career #s, better #s last season, K's more, gives up fewer HRs and at 27 still has upside.
  6. I know it's playoff football, but it just amazes me watching other teams play a seemingly different sport.
  7. Depth is very important. We had 20 pitchers contribute positive WAR last season, more than many playoff teams, including the Yankees and Brewers. On the offensive side, Tauchman, Bethancourt, Cooper, Bote, etc were all positive contributors. They certainly gave too many PAs to Mastrobuoni and Madrigal, and those PAs going to better players will help, no argument there. Like many others, I would just like to see an addition to the top of the rotation (which also pushes quality arms down into depth roles).
  8. Sure am glad they added Tucker, because the dogged pursuit of #4 starters, bench guys and middle relief hasn't been very inspiring for a team that needs concentrated WAR. Reminds me of Hendry in the early 2000s. Plenty of time, but I get nervous.
  9. This is quite the pumping of the brakes. Horton losing a grade makes sense. Rojas, perhaps. Caissie and Ballesteros at 45 is a bit much.
  10. Add an ace and the Cubs are probably the 2nd best team in baseball.
  11. Poteet is a reliever who K's under 6 per 9. We're starting to compile a bunch of middle relief options, for sure.
  12. The organization has Canario, Alcantara. Caissie and (likely) Triantos waiting in the OF wings. There are still impact trades that can be made from this depth. What kind of SP could a Alcantara + Birdsell + Mulé package bring back, for instance? I think Luzardo is still a worthwhile target, but he isn't the only option.
  13. Luckily, Shaw is in the organization. I'm bullish on Smith but he wasn't even the Cubs' best 3B prospect. They traded surplus for a middle of the order bat. A great move.
  14. Guys with exactly 180 wRC+ in 24 Kyle Tucker Juan Soto This is very exciting
  15. ONKC is my #1 guy. I think he's got a massive offensive ceiling, but Kyle Tucker is exactly the player you package him for.
  16. I'm not an eye-test kind of guy but I agree on Cam Smith. He looks like a star.
  17. Horton + Paredes + Assad. Now the Boyd signing makes more sense.
  18. Late to the party here, but this move is so bizarre. Even if you accept that an injury- plagued, low-velo, 34 yr old who twice led the league in HR allowed is worth this contract, why the Cubs? SP depth is a strength here, and while adding precious payroll to the top makes tons of sense, adding it to the bottom is confounding. Are they going to move another arm?
  19. In 2019, Miguel Amaya put up a 122 wRC+ in A+. After that, he had a grand total of 382 PAs between Tennessee and Iowa before getting called up in '23. I would expect even a tip-top prospect to struggle with that accelerated ascent, even as covid and injuries made it seem like he was taking forever. Instead, a pretty respectable 96 wRC+ in 23 before the struggle and adjustment we all saw last season. All this to say that Miguel has acquitted himself pretty well, and giving up our top pitching prospect for any C that isn't a slam-dunk upgrade seems like a mistake.
  20. It appears that it's Long in the lineup and no Ballesteros.
  21. These teams are such an obvious fit for each other.
