  1. Has anyone been able to confirm or debunk this yet?
  2. Just think of the DP combo that Womack and Rey rnez will make.
  3. And jumps in the harbor to save someone's life. Wait, he already did that.
  4. I wish I could find it, but I had a Nomar prediction post where I had him in the high 300s with good power numbers. Then there was the thread I started right around the arby deadline wishing they would offer. I miss the poor sap, and I hope he has a monster season. Not to point at all of the nay-sayers, just because I have always been a Nomar fan.
  5. It'll be a pitcher. Maybe Novoa to give Ryu a chance?
  6. Hypothetical: What if teh Cobs could get Tejada and Cabrera? Are we contenders then?
  7. While I'd agree that Marshall's value is at an all-time high, I'm not sure it won't get even higher as he matures. I would only trade him for the best of players to help us into the playoffs. That being said, Texas is always looking for young pitching, Philly is looking to unload Abreu's contract, and Manny being Manny are all possibilities. If Boston would eat some money, I'd platoon Manny in LF with Manny. Both of his personalities can hit.
  8. With this team, 2 is a fluke.
  9. Well, then why bother? Why bother with what? I have followed the Cubs since I can remember, but them winning or not winning the world series wouldn't change my life or give me a sense of satisfaction. I'd be happy and hope to see it one day, but it does nothing for personal satisfaction. It would be different if I played or worked for the Cubs, but I'm just a fan. See the Red Sox fans for example. They won a couple years ago for the first time forever and they're even more rabid than ever. If they were truly satisfied, the fans would just show up and cheer for anything the Sox do on the field. They don't so obviously the Red Sox title two years didn't satisfy their fans. Enjoying, or getting any satisfaction out of a team's success is completely different from "being satisfied". Enjoyment and satisfaction are temporary feelings. Being satisfied suggests permanence. The players themselves typically don't remain satisfied with winning one. So, you're suggestion that you can't take any satisfaction from a win because you aren't part of the team doesn't jive with the rest of your statement. Hey, if you can passively observe this team without any emotional ties getting involved, more power to you. But then I'd refrain from admonishing those who have taken an emotional stake in the team from expressing disappointment in how they are run. You don't care. Fine. Others do. MANY others do. Guilty :(
  10. Did you think a game between two woefully inept franchises merits more than that? 11. That stadium (inside) reminds me a lot of the WWoS stadium in Orlando where the Braves have ST. Very nice.
  12. I think what you're missing is that it was Hendry who brought in the players who cannot swing the bats and pitch the pitches. Not only that, he's overpaying pretty much all of them. The players are playing poorly because collectively they are not good. The only argument against Hendry being the main problem I will accept is if you were to say that MacPhail was.
  13. I think Freddie Bynum is as good as he'll ever be. I concede this point. Perhaps I should have specified everyone not named Freddie, Neifi or Hank How about guys named Jerry? I'm getting ready to call Naperville and tell them they can have him back.
  14. Was that the game where he got shot too? With a cannon. twice Well he only took the second cannon shot to stop it from hitting the section full of nuns and make a wish kids. Swell guy.
  15. Was that the game where he got shot too?
  16. If he keeps hitting the way he has, they'll find room. It's not as though the team is overloaded with talent. Not to mention 2-17 will surely get you some pine time.
  17. I hope it's true, shakeups were needed. Sing and the Iowa team have been pretty bad. Micah and Luis have been hitting pretty darn well. I hope Micah's more prepared for AAA than he was last year though.
  18. I don't think anyone's looking for reasons, they just jump out at us.
  19. That's not even remotely fair. Zambrano was called out when he was doing a terrible job. I told you so's are not needed. He wasn't even doing terrible and people were saying he was crap all year, melted down every game etc. He had 3 really good games, and 3 poor games. And my view on "I told you so's" is, 1) I didn't say "I told you so" 2) If you're going to make a statement, you better be ready to support it, or admit you were wrong. Everyone should be accountable for what they say on here. If I say Prior sucks and is a wuss, and he comes and pitches 20 games and pitches like a stud, I should be accountable for what I say. The whole "not calling a poster on a statement" allows people to say whatever the hell they want. Just my opinion. Regardless, the people calling Zambrano out, were incredibly hyperbolic and reactionary. I'm just noting their silence now. First, there are many ways of saying I told you so without actually saying the words. You said it. If anything, your post is hyperbolic and reactionary. Blueheart, and as I recall a few others, pointed out that Zambrano was pitching poorly and not harnessing his emotions or control, not that he was a crappy pitcher or that he was "crap all year". You are correct that everyone should be held accountable for what they say, but this is not an example of a time where that should be the case. Pointing out that Zambrano was doing poorly was an accurate statement at that time for his overall body of work. His work of late has been much better. By these standards, if Zambrano has a poor start, Blueheart and others are well within their rights to come on here and single you out for calling him good and saying he was good all year.
  20. That's not even remotely fair. Zambrano was called out when he was doing a terrible job. I told you so's are not needed.
  21. Yep -- he issued warnings to both teams after the first pitch -- which as you noted was thrown behind Barry. Nothing wrong with how Joe West handled that situation IMO.... Springer threw a SLIDER on said pitch, Wind City. Take it from a former pitcher, if you are TRYING to hit a batter, you don't try to hit the batter with an "offspeed pitch", you use the "Good ol'e #1", the fastball. The warning on the first pitch was BOGUS. Now, any pitch leading up to the HBP---exlcuding the first pitch---I would agree on the warning. But to instantly issue a warning on a SLIDER, is plain stupid. That's not stupid at all. Any pitch thrown behind a batter, especially batters with the reputation of Barry Bonds, should be assumed to be deliberately thrown. Nip it in the bud.
  22. And 0 of the walks will be issued to Soriano.
