  1. I believe the Houston pitcher threw at Bonds like 5 times before actually hitting him, so it wasn't like the guy didn't deserve to get thrown out of the game. If anything you can blame West for not issuing warnings after he missed hitting him the first few times. Didn't he warn him after the 1st pitch (that went behind Barry)? I didn't watch the game, but the replay I saw made it appear as though there was a warning issued. Furthermore, after 3-4 high and tight pitches ends with a beaning up around the shoulder area, he has every right to toss the guy with or without a warning. I am not a fan of Joe West, but I don't think he did anything wrong.
  2. I like Derwood's better. Those pesky Devil Rays are hot on our heels.
  3. Yes. Next question. Is TO going to play in Philly again. Yes, Dallas travels there week 5. Next. Will the Cubs ever win another World Series? Yes. Sadly, not in our lifetimes.

  5. Wouldn't that fall under the heading of "poor planning"?
  6. Somebody gets killed, likely one of our starters. That's about the only thing that hasn't happened to this team yet.
  7. Then how does it explain his use of the younger Cedeno? Don't know - probably speed would be his stance and the fact that Murton had been more clutch with RBI opportunities. He's faster than Murton so when Walker dropped to the 3-hole after Lee's injury he got the nod. Add in that Murton has had several 3-5 hole opportunities and one could argue Murton got the greater of the pressure spots. That's my best guess at Dusty's thought process. That would be my guess as well. I think it has more to do with Dusty's stereotypical views of what a top of the order guy looks like, than what a hitter actually should be. Speed trumps all. I believe speed played a role, but Ronny was also hitting 90 points higher than Murton when Lee went down (370/396 vs 280/345).
  8. But in the middle of a disastrous stretch of games, you can't expect anybody to get a free pass. And you can't seriously say you have no idea why fans would boo. I actually said I understand the frustrations, and yes I can expect someone to get a free pass. Dempster has been one of the best closers in all of baseball since he was put in the role. He had more consecutive saves than any other reliever in team history, and didn't he also set the record for consecutive scoreless innings as well? Regardless, he has performed at an extremely high level this season and had 1 bad outing. I used Lee as an example in my last post. In the midst of a losing streak last season, when Lee was dominating the league, would an 0-4 performance with a 3-run error resulting in a 4-3 loss mean he should get booed? No, he should also get a free pass because his overall body of work was amazing. Everyone has a bad day. With this team, you shouldn't boo the ones who only have 1.
  9. I generally have no issues with booing a player who sucks or does stupid things. Dempster's blown save was about the equivalent of Lee going 0-4 with an error that led to a couple of unearned runs. His overall body of work has proven him to be better and that his next game will be better. I understand the frustration, but Dempster is one of the very few players on this team that should get a free pass after one bad performance.
  10. I finally got around to reading it, and it made me cry. Truth hurts, I guess.
  11. Sox = Red Sox Sox = White Sox Sox is stupid, just like Cards or Flubs or Scrubs or whatever unclever play on a team's name that can be concocted. All it's going to do is rile people up. I've always thought it made the person sound childish when they said it because it was usually preceded with a somewhat incoherent rambling about something with no basis in truth and succeeded by a giggle that would make a 4th grader proud.
  12. We're only in 1st until we get swept by the Nats. true. thus, I propose: American League ---------------------------- Anaheim Arizona Atlanta Baltimore Boston Chicago White Sox Cincinnati Cleveland Colorado Detroit Florida Houston Kansas City Los Angeles Milwaukee Minnesota NY Mets NY Yankees Oakland Philly Pittsburgh San Diego San Francisco Seattle St. Louis Tampa Bay Texas Toronto Washington National League ------------------ Chicago Cubs Under that alingment, we'd still somehow find a way to get swept in the NLCS.
  13. And what was Kansas City's record after 37 games in 2005? Or the 2003 Detroit Tigers' record on 5/22?
  14. He really shouldn't blame Baker or injuries. However, he's also not likely to blame the biggest cause for the 2-14 slide: himself.
  15. I'm too lazy to look up the number of teams in MLB right now, but I hate all of them. That's right, I said all of them.
  16. Shealy would be a good option. Oops, wrong thread.
  17. Cubs lose 14-1. Their lone run is scored when Zambrano spontaneously combusts in the bottom of the 3rd and one of his arms is hurled around the bases in a boomerang fashion, eventually coming to rest on home plate. Stunned from what transpired and the feeling that this may not be accounted for in the official rules, the umpiring crew and Frank Robinson agree to award the Cubs with a run. Rusch is called on to relieve Zambrano, thus the 14 runs.
  18. Earl thinks so Yes. Yes, he does.
  19. We could lose every one of our remaining games, and Dusty would likely still be in line for an extension.
  20. Bruce, tell everyone in a Cubs uniform I am extremely disappointed in them. Thank you, that is all.
