  1. That was my point though. Bobby is still in baseball, and would be a viable managerial candidate, when what bsb has been arguing is that there aren't viable candidates available. At least I think that's what he's arguing, since he's asked about 4 times in this thread for managerial candidates. I honestly thought he was genuinely curious as to what Davey Johnson is up to nowadays.. Maybe I'm naive. :? That's exactly what I was wondering. I knew Valentine was in Japan and many former managers are working media in some capacity or a 1st/3rd base coach (Pujols, Pena, etc). I was just wondering where and what Johnson was up to. My bad then...thought you were being sarcastic. No worries...I'm not trying to start anything. I think we've had a nice dialogue on this topic. I am not completely against getting rid of Baker. It's just that if we do that, I want to see a legitimate managerial upgrade to come in and we don't repeat the Bruce Kimm debacle. I was just asking who that would/could be. It's all a moot point if this has any truth, which it likely does: viewtopic.php?t=32026 My 2 cents is that Speier deserves a shot for the rest of this season. This team has not yet shown me that there's any way for them to salvage what's left, so why not give a new guy a chance?
  2. I'd much rather see Marky pitching in Des Moines on Memorial Day. Is that selfish of me?
  3. It's OK if you can do it, but we're 29th in OBP and 30th in SLG. It ain't happenin'.
  4. Yes. Chocolate Milk, for starters. When was the last time you turned a clean double play in the NLCS?
  5. This team is improving and isn't as bad a people would make it out to be. Are they world beaters right now? No, far from it, but I see this team on the up swing. My sample size is smaller then yours. It's more difficult to see improvement in your sample size. Banedon, you be any type of fan you'd like to be. I believe we're all pulling for the same team. I just choose to see what the team can do today, tomorrow and next week, not what they haven't did yesterday or 2 weeks ago. You're fooling yourself with that statement. In the last 6 games, the Cubs beat a HORRIBLE team twice and had one really good inning against the White Sox. This team is bad, and unless personnel changes are made, they will continue to be bad. They lack talent. It isn't about drive, determination, hustle, or seeing "something" from the dugout. They are inferior to most teams in baseball right now. Your optimism is wonderful, but it is very misguided.
  6. I didn't. I saw something else. Guys like Theriot and Wood and Novoa. He didn't see Pagan and Williams and Wuertz.
  7. Uhm... Really? Since when did they get internet in jail? He's obviously lying. There are no cops in St Louis.
  8. I see Alex Gonzalez is the reason the Cubs have not been to a WS since 1945. Shall I start a list of everyone else I feel responsible?
  9. I liken it more to LL (little league) style.
  10. states simply. 3-3 is a whole lot better then 0-6. I see improvement. It might be small but I see it. how about 1-3 in their last 4 games? You're picking arbitrary groups of games to make it seem like there's improvement...there's not. They're undefeated in their last 1 game. that means there's a 100% chance of them winning tonight They'll have the division locked up by May 23rd.
  11. And you already thought he was the worst catcher in baseball, so thank you for your clearly unbiased opinion on the topic. What does him being a poor Defensive Catcher have to do with him proving he's a punk and a whiny unsympathetic one at that? I don't have any problems with Barrett the hitter and actually like him and root for him, cuz afterall I am a Cubs fan and do wish him well. I will also admit that he has indeed improved (however slight it may be) defensively this season. But again, the only reason people are coming to his defense on this incident, is cuz he wears a Cubs jersey and if he was wearing any other jersey than a Cubs jersey, would be called out for what he really is. That's the simple truth. Try being an objective fan once in awhile. It's sad that the majority of Cub fans are thrilled by this incident, cuz it's all Cub fans have to get excited about. It was a dumb action and he was wrong for his action on so many levels, but yet Cub fans think what he did was justified? They obviously don't know the game if they feel Barrett had a right to do what he did. Not only was he wrong and out of line, but he will cost his team atleast 5 games and it was selfish. I see the point I made clearly escaped you. You cannot ridicule one side for not looking at an incident objectively when you are not doing the same. Your disdain for Michael Barrett is already known, thus saying everyone who thinks the act was not "dumb" and needs to look at things objectively is no different than what you are doing from the other side.

  13. http://www.baseball-reference.com/ I don't know how far back they go.
  14. I'm guessing it's just a generic uni since they would have to get permission to use either Angels or Cards gear. It doesn't look anything like either if you ask me.
  15. I don't buy that 75 wins means he's gone. There has already been a lot of speculation that he will be extendended whenever this free-fall ends. With Wood, Prior, and Lee all missing chunks of time, he has the now built-in "injuries did us in" excuse.
  16. No-hitter, Ricky Nolasco. Pierre goes 0-5 with 5 soft grounders to 2B. The Marlins, fearing the Cubs may never deal with them again, offer Miguel Cabrera as a sign of peace. Miguel puts on his Cubs jersey and promptly finishes the season at 221/245/355. We release him in the offseason and sign 62 year old Tito Fuentes. Miguel regains his form with the Cardinals, and they go 161-1 next season.

  18. Got picked not once, not twice, but three times. And at the time, although he was coming around, was not really a force in the lineup and also was during that stretch the Cubs faced a gaggle of lefthanders so I think the benching could have worked out ok (Hairston wouldn't have killed them for one game, plus they suck anyway and would probably lose with or without him) My only point is, this team sucks enough with the group that "deserves" to start. The last thing we need is to make an already weak lineup even weaker. If Jones can get a base hit that potentially could drive a runner home and then get picked off 2nd, I'll take that over an 0-fer from Bynum or Hairston. Both outcomes suck, I'm just going with the one that sucks slightly less.
  19. So, Jones sits for a game because he got picked off 2nd base. His replacement is a guy who can't even get on base. Which player is worse or less deserving of playing time? I'll stick with Jacque. Aramis is off to an extremely slow start. Neifi is backup #1 at 3B. I'll take my chance that Aramis turns it around. The accountability for what's wrong with this team falls solely on the group responsible for putting it together.
  20. Maybe you're a wuss too!! :D
  21. Albert does not need to think, in the conventional sense. All thoughts and ideas originate within Albert and then are disseminated to the rest of the world.
