  1. I'm wondering if Murton will get thrown into the fire right away against Dontrelle. I would guess that Greenburg would sit that one out.
  2. ...To make room at Iowa for Patterson and Dubois, first baseman Micah Hoffpauir has been sent to double-A and the I-Cubs have released outfielder Trenidad Hubbard. Link I don't know about the all-star game.
  3. .384 OBP, 7 triples, lefty, 0 errors, Pie on the DL, Corey not cutting it
  4. If we go through a fire sale, which I highly doubt... Staying Zambrano Prior Lee Cedeno Ramirez The rest can go for the right price.
  5. I almost forgot about Joe Carter... Joe Carter: So, do you get along with Pete Rozelle? Jim McMahon: *pause* Well, actually, Pete has been dead for several years now, but I did get along with him pretty well.
  6. My bad, I was using the 10-key. I meant to say "comfortable in that 5 spot".
  7. After seeing the Real Sports segment on Wally Backman, I think he deserves a shot managing somewhere. Why not here? The Cubs need a guy who can light a fire. So here's my coaching staff next year... Manager - Wally Backman Bench Coach - Joe Girardi Pitching Coach - Steve Stone Hitting Coach - Mark Grace 3rd Base - Chris Speier 1st Base - Ryne Sandberg
  8. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the only hole is CF. I do believe it is the one weakness that has to be addressed now. I think that the production we are getting from Holly and Burnie right now is worth more than giving up on a lot of promising talent for someone like Kearns or Huff. There is a major upgrade that can take place at SS now, and it is putting Cedeno in the lineup every day. Neifi is an offensive liability right now. If the kid can't handle it, Nomar should be back within the next few weeks, and we all know what a healthy Nomar can do. The catcher upgrade will come. Barrett seems to be more streaky than normal this year and will turn it around. It seems as though he is very comfortable in that 8 spot, and I think he should be left there.
  9. That's one of the biggest problems in baseball logic -- expecting certain positions to possess specific offensive traits. It simply does not matter where the pop in your lineup comes from as long as it is there. If you had a team of 8 Vince Colemans with a pitcher that could hit like Babe Ruth in there everyday, you could build a winning team. We have enough pop in the lineup, we need more guys to get on base. Holly is starting to do that regularly, and Burnie is already providing some of the pop.
  10. It's so frustrating to not see Ronny in the lineup after watching him play in Des Moines. He is extremely fun to watch, and he gives you the feeling that he really has things figured out.
  11. I do not see the corner OF positions as being areas in need of a major upgrade. After a horrendous start, Holly is finally hitting very well and Burnie has been playing better than most of us expected. The obvious hole is CF. Adding a Kenny Lofton-esque player to plug in there and bat #1 would be a wise move. I like Walker, but if they can't re-sign him, he needs to be part of a package with Wood (yes, I said it) to Texas for Soriano. Ronny should be given a shot to play every day since Neifi is struggling so much, and let's not forget that Nomar may return in just under a month. Barrett's been in a funk, and he will come around. I have a feeling Aramis will get red hot and drive that average up to around .325 and drive in lots o' runs. I'm not even going to start on the pitching, but we all know who needs to stay and who needs to go. Long story short, this team needs a minor jolt right now to get the juices flowing again. A modest winning streak now puts us in very good position to make a run at the wild card. I remember being within 2 games of .500 at the ASB in 2003, and we almost ended the drought then.
  12. We should use Mitre and Dubois to get something more valuable than an average SS, especially when we have a pretty good one already sitting on the bench.
  13. Some from Harry... "Aw, how could he lose the ball in the sun, he's from Mexico." "I've only been doing this fifty-four years. With a little experience, I might get better." "I would always sing it (Take Me Out To The Ball Game), because I think it's the only song I knew the words to!" "Oh, I get a little tired now and then, but knowing my lifestyle, that's only natural." "They (Expos fans) discovered 'boo' is pronounced the same in French as it is in English."
  14. Thanks! I finally got fed up with all of the garbage on the ESPN board.
  15. I told a buddy in '03 that we should have brought Lofton back to finish his career and hopefully help Pie take over the spot because as I said, "Corey isn't the CF of the future". He laughed at me at the time, but he said the same dang thing to me this past weekend. He chuckled a bit when I reminded him of that conversation. He got the last laugh when he reminded me of the time a few years ago when I told him Clemens was done. :)
  16. Exactly what has been the knock on Kearns the past couple of years (other than the injuries)? It seemed like he was going to be a superstar then faded just as quickly. I guess Ankiel is too fresh in my mind.
  17. Carlos Lee would be fine with me in left. As much as I can't stand the guy (mostly because of the uniforms he has worn), he sure does hit well in Wrigley.
