  1. With the Trib, that should be the equivalent of you or I finding 86 cents in the couch cushion.
  2. I'd piddle myself if we landed 3 of those 5 provided two of them are Giles and Abreu (I'm sure one of them could handle CF). I'm sticking to my guns that Furcal will be extremely overpaid and I wouldn't mind giving Ronny a chance with Walk at 2B. I know it's an apples to oranges thing, but the last SS we signed away from the Braves is still too fresh in my mind...
  3. Are we still talking about the Cubs? :)
  4. Keep Bradley and give me Lofton. I have no reason to doubt he has another good year or two left. 130-140 games with Hairston filling in on occasion. Career .299/.373. Not too shabby.
  5. If it's the money, I'll kick in another $6.53 and an expired Wendy's coupon to keep him in Japan.
  6. Thanks - I just threw up in my mouth.
  7. As do we all. I had the opportunity to watch him a couple of springs ago, and I'm growing tired of waiting to see him in Wrigley.
  8. Loony was the perfect word to describe that suggestion. :) You just don't move a stud away from a position he absolutely excels at to bring in an old dude with back problems.
  9. I have never really been that high on Furcal, but I wouldn't say no to that lineup. I doubt Corey will struggle as badly as he did this past season, but as you said, I don't mind him keeping the spot warm for Pie (assuming the other moves are made).
  10. You are partially correct. Aramis is the only other Cub with more plate appearances.
  11. It depends on why the bases are loaded. If 2 or 3 are on via a walk, you should be kicked in the jimmy for going up there and swinging away. If the pitcher has been throwing BP fastballs and all 3 are on via base hits, go up there hacking if it's in your zone.
  12. The number of idiots is growing. 9.2% think we'll make it...
  13. Sullivan's Q&A This is now my all-time favorite reader question... The Cubs failed last year due to Chip Caray and Steve Stone, so appropriately, Chip and Steve were run out of town. This year Dusty thinks the fans booing is the problem. The fans are causing players to swing at the first pitch with the bases loaded, not take pitches, leave runners on third with less than two out, etc. Can't we get rid of the fans before this season is lost? -- Rog Palmer, Phoenix
  14. I'm still on the Wally Backman bandwagon.
  15. We already beat this horse to death... Link
  16. How 'bout Crapbags? Couldn't resist - go Hawks! :D
  17. We took that big leap to garnering some respect in '03, and we haven't done squat since. 5 outs from the WS and we didn't do a whole lot to improve on that. His contract is up after next year. If he doesn't have a magical offseason and turn this ship around, I say cut ties with him.
  18. And where did these players get the Cubs? They are below the Brewers now, you have to move them all. As for Nomar, I'd move him now. I know he couldn't have been moved earlier but he is auditioning for other teams right now and it's the Cubs chance to get some value because I doubt they will offer arbitration for him and will get nothing for him. You have to trade something that has value and if Burnitz has value, move him. The Cubs can always get another average corner OF in the off season if they like Burnitz production. I think my post came off as though I was advocating keeping them all. Walker is the only one on the list that I would have been upset to see leave. All I was doing was pointing out the reasons why they weren't, whether or not they were the right reasons.
  19. With his injury, it's more about the pain than causing any more damage.
  20. Reasons why they weren't dealt before the deadline: CPatt = absolutely no value Nomar = on DL, couldn't be dealt Burnitz = only "consistent" OF Perez = who knows? Macias = see Perez Walker = why? cheap and productive, keep him. Hollandsworth = see Perez, Macias
  21. Manny was placed on waivers to clear up money for other reasons -- he was going to be dealt for ARod. Dan Duquette was the GM who signed him, and Theo wants to use that money elsewhere. I would not be surprised after Manny's latest episode if it happened again.
  22. Garland was traded for a crappy righty, but anyway... I agree that we seem to over-evaluate our own system, but all organizations do to a certain extent. What chaps my hind area more than anything is how pitching-rich the farm system was said to be, but we have been waiting a few years to start seeing that talent pan out (Zambrano and Prior the exceptions). Rich Hill is not the savior some are making him out to be (I got yelled at by comparing him to Shawn Estes), Brownlie is basically a bust, Sisco is gone, Guzman is hurt, Cruz lost it, and so on. To finish an earlier point, all teams do the same things. They hold out hope for guys they feel are going to tear it up and don't pan out. Some teams happen to catch lightning in a bottle with their "prospects", but more often than not, they are making the same mistakes we are.
  23. Beyonce. She is SOOOOOOPER hot. Plus, Scoop Jackson wouldn't... ah, never mind.
  24. I have a 6 year old son, and that just brought tears to my eyes. Kudos to the entire organization! The Reds have just jumped into last place of my "teams I hate most" list. The Cards are numero uno, of course.
  25. He was tearing it up at West Tenn but cooled off a little lately. His OBP is still at .380, and 33/8 in the SB dept. Decent numbers all around except in the power department. Not so hot in his stint in Des Moines. Bacon's stats EDIT: Stoopid 10-key! :)
