  1. How 'bout these numbers at Wrigley  .463/.593/1.073/1.666 (41 ABs, 6 HR, 19 RBI)
  2. yeah, but would we really stoop to that level, after all, look at the last 2B we got from them (sarcasm) Who plays CF for them? Luis Matos
  3. So, basically what you're saying is you want to give this team another shot? :-s
  4. He may not be able to do any more damage, but if it is in fact his labrum, I speak from experience that his shoulder would not allow him. I have had moments over the past couple of years where it felt like my arm went with the ball and my entire arm went numb for 5-10 minutes. I have reached the point where I was not able to lift my arm -- forget throwing a ball. Of course, mine is completely torn, and as I understand, his only has some minor damage. He will obviously be able to make more throws than me (I'm currently at about 10/gm), but he will be extremely limited before the pain comes roaring right back.
  5. Have no fear, you'll catch him on Around The Horn later and he'll say something so stupid that you'll have no choice but to hate him again.
  6. If it came in May, how come we're just hearing about it now? I didn't catch the whole story. All I heard was that Raffy knew about the positive test since May (Franklin also said that's when his was), and they made reference to how he knew he had tested positive while he was chasing #3000.
  7. Give it some time. They've been on the market since November and have already cut profits of the entire Microsoft corporation by 5%. Also, is there a way we can make this site viewable only in Mozilla? That would rock. And lose the 34% who use IE (which is probably actually around 64%)? It is NEVER smart to tailor a site to be used by a specific browser. You can download Mozilla for free, and it only takes a few minutes AT MOST if you have a slow connection, instantly if you have a fast connection. Not everyone has the luxury of picking their browser of choice, due to work constraints. Here's the site where you can download Mozilla: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ You can do it at home. And talk to your boss if you don't have Mozilla at work. That site talks about the benifits of Mozilla. CPatt has an excellent point about work constraints. Many companies adopt very specific policies regarding software that can be installed on corporate clients (a decade in IT will tell you that is a great idea). Not to mention the fact that you shouldn't be using company property for your personal "business". [-X It's plain and simple, web development 101 says you should never tailor a site to a specific browser, especially if it is one used my the minority of your audience.
  8. The new policy is still a joke in my eyes. First of all, the suspension is 10 days, not 10 games. Secondly, it is only 10 days. Raffy and Franklin both tested positive in May, and we just found out about them now. The odd thing is Franklin's statement said he tested positive then 3 weeks later tested negative. I'm leaning toward believing him since he is the first who didn't pop up with a "I didn't know what it was" story.
  9. Plus we left a lot of runners in scoring position.
  10. ESPN is saying the positive test actually came in May. That 2-3 month timeframe would coincide with his testimony before Congress.
  11. Well, he did pretty darn good at the British Open when he was 5 years old. Saw it on TV myself. Seriously, Scott, you have GOT to get rid of that sig. =P~
  12. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know squat about the Twins farm system. What do they have in a Hairston price range to ship back?
  13. He has done much better than I imagined, but I have to believe with a potentially loaded infield, that it is time to see some youth out there.
  14. I think Robin Yount blows the "70's and 80's" shortstop myth. He led the majors in hits in the 80's.... And deservidly so, Yount is HOFer. What is your point? That Yount proves SS wasn't a weak hitting position, mostly defensive position, for most of the 20th century? If that it your point then we will have to agree to disagree. Yount wasn't even a SS for his entire career. IIRC he had more ABs at CF then he did at SS. I am not positive about the AB number, but he played something like 260 more games at SS than CF. My guess is there were more ABs while at SS.
  15. I guess I'm not sure how the whole waiver system works. Wouldn't Cincy have really high priority, and if they were to claim him, he doesn't have to try and make it through the rest of the teams... would he? Couldn't a deal be made right with Cincy instead of waiting to see if others would claim him? Does the waiver list go worst record to best regardless of league or does it go worst to first in one league then worst to first in the other league? If they go thru all the NL clubs first, Cincy would be one of the first teams and theoretically could put in a claim for Corey then the deal could be made. Assuming Griffey clears waivers too. (A) If only one claim is entered, the player's contract is assigned to that claiming club. (B) If more than one club in the same league makes claims, the club currently lower in the standings gets the player. © If clubs in both leagues claim the player, preference shall always go to the club in the same league as the club requesting waivers.
  16. Didn't Chief running back Joe Delaney die trying to save a kid from drowning? I don't really disagree with your base premise, that athletic achievement shouldn't be confused with heroism. But there have been plenty of sports figures who are true heroes. "Heroism" is a rather subjective term and could be used to describe a lot of people, whether or not they saved a child's life. By definition, a hero is "a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities" or "an object of extreme admiration". One cannot be wrong by saying Ryno was a hero.
  17. I have no doubts that that is true. I saw a story a while back (I think on ESPN.com) that there was less than overwhelming support for Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa to make the Hall because of the speculation. Wouldn't it be something if Barry came back to break Hammerin' Hank's record and did NOT make the HOF?
  18. It's nice to see that Jim can laugh about it. Only kidding, of course. Thanks for the info! Hey, post #100. What do I get???
  19. I'm guessing he'll buy Ohman a nice steak dinner and a Rolex, and he'll have the 50 on his back within a couple of days.
  20. That was awesome, Vance! I would have piddled myself in that position. Ryno did not make me start playing the game, but watching him certainly made me enjoy it. I am proud to say he was my baseball idol for so many years.

  22. i dont know how you can say that with any certainty i dont think dawson should be in the hall, and i couldve sworn he was a cub Well you can apply most of their arguments against Ozzie's worthiness to Sandberg and see that they fit him pretty well too. Yet they don't seem to have a problem with him in the Hall. Except Ozzie never put up offensive numbers like Ryno did. No, but people are saying that Ozzie shouldn't be in the Hall because his offense wasn't good enough. Sandberg's was better than Ozzie's, but you can say that it too wasn't good enough. I say that if a player is voted in to the Hall of Fame then he deserves to be there. Until last season, Ryno held the record for most homers EVER by a 2B. I'd say that's good enough. And for what it's worth, I think Ozzie does belong in the Hall. He did more than just play defense -- 2400+ hits, 580 SB, 1000+ BB, etc. You don't rack up numbers like that because you cannot handle the bat at all.

  24. I would hope Corey has to do a lot better than barely cross the Mendoza line at AAA before he sees Wrigley again. Unless it's as an opposing player, that is. Even Phil Norton has a better BA right now. :x
