  1. I cringed when I found out about the DFA. It seemed to me that he was finally starting to get his velocity back to normal, keeping the ball down, yada yada. Tampa got a pretty darn good reliever at our expense. I hope the guy has a few more good years in him.
  2. I am going under the knife to have my labrum sewn back up, and my Dr told me it would be 3-4 months until I was "back to normal" (whatever normal is). My guess is he would start next season on the DL because he probably would not get much time in ST. One of the assumptions in this post is that both Kerry and I do the rehab we are supposed to do. I wonder if he'd like to hang out with me when his surgery is over... :-k
  3. Thanks - I just spit a nice amount of Budweiser on my keyboard when I read this...
  4. I think my reaction was about the same for both events -- "so, what else is new?".
  5. A bit harsh to call him the worst ever, isn't it? Never figured out how he always made a roster - career OPS barely over 12 My Favorite - the fact that his name was changed to that (born Zuck) shows exactly how bad he was
  6. The old "Remlinger should't face a lefty" keeps coming to mind as to the Griffey homerun. I do think Rem is done though, he's broken down and just riding out the year. He doesn't get in much and we were losing last night game so it doesn't bother me. Mop up duty only, don't want to see Hill wasted at the bottom of the rotation like Cendeno and Murton are wasted on the bench when they could be developing in AAA. i don't think hill would be wasted as much as murton or cedeno. maddux, wood and williams aren't exactly eating up a lot of innings, so he would be pitching 2 or 3 times a week and getting a taste of the bigs which AAA just can't simulate. hell, with wood heading back to the shelf, maybe he should just join the rotation. speaking of murton, the guy goes 4 for 5 in game 1 and doesn't play games 2 and 3? nice. and cedeno should be splitting time evenly with perez at the least. Maddux is once again leading the staff in IP, averaging about 6 1/3 per start. He's eating his fair share.

  8. WOO HOO! 10/10 (with 3 very lucky guesses)
  9. Darn, beat me to it :x . Oh well, and no, its not just you. Anyone up for giving Embree a chance, or do we have our own Embree in Remlinger? Beat ya' both to it! :D Posted this Saturday...
  10. Sweet! I missed them saying that, and I'm definitely tuning in again. Thanks!
  11. ESPN Transactions Primer This is another handy site explaining the rules governing waivers, options, DFA, etc.
  12. Official MLB Rules This is loooong and boring, but it is a good reference when seeing something odd during a game.
  13. It sure seems like there's been a lot more DFA's of "noteable" players happening this year than in years past.
  14. The guys who do the Brewers games (I can never think of their names) come pretty close to Hawk and DJ.
  15. I'm not trying to be inconsiderate, I am just trying to figure out why the topic of a hole that has been in place since baseball gloves were first invented is being discussed more than 130 years later. http://www.baseballgloves.com/aboutgloves/fingerless-baseball-gloves.jpg
  16. Hey, I just said that... http://northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=23031
  17. He's been bothered by a combination of back problems (I still think of Hundley) and his elbow. I don't know how much the elbow is impacting that BA, but a lower back problem will mess a swing up...
  18. Can you add an option for "I wish there was a way for them both to lose"? :D
  19. He is not Corey, the argument of keeping him in the minors because of how Corey turned out should stop. All players are different. Just because they were both touted as 5 tool players who play CF does not mean they share the same gene pool, etc. You simply cannot say "he sucked so the other guy will too".
  20. Is it just me or is this one of the most mind-numbing topics ever brought up?
  21. Eh, I'm not so sure... anyone who goes out and sign a Jose Macias, that's a problem, at least in my book. I'm just suprised that the ownership didn't do anything about the fact that Neifi just plainly sucks, and try to force the manager to play the young players. Oh well. *shrug* Not to nitpick, but we actually traded for Macias. And then we re-signed him this past offseason.
  22. Well, I do see your point. But I think the responsibility of ownership is basically to provide a nice payroll, and to hire someone competent to run the baseball team. Now, I can't and won't defend those signings. But I think most people would say that, overall, Hendry has done a good job running the Cubs. Others think that he hasn't, and they certainly can bring up valid points to back it up. But they have a guy, who in most baseball circles, would be considered successful. So to me, that shows that the ownership isn't a problem for this team. I think they've held up their end of the deal. Yeah, I understand what ya'll are talking abou the ownership. I just kept thinking that the GM position is part of the ownership, or at least a share, but I got that mixed up. There's nothing I can do about the signings. However, as a fan, the majority of the signings I won't complain too much. It's just that I don't see a logical reason to keep Macias, Wilson (before he was gone), and some others. I agree that JH has done a good job running the Cubs. Believe me, it could have been worse, like the GM for the Mets that one time before he got canned (Can't remember his name, but IIRC, he hasn't gotten any offers since he got canned.) I'm not sure if you're referring to Ed Lynch, former Cubs GM who, I believe, played and may have worked in the front office with the Mets, or Steve Phillips, former Mets GM. I'm guessing it's one of the two though... Speaking of Ed Lynch, I remember him being retained after his firing (er, demotion, I guess) as a scout or something. Anyone know if he is still in the organization? Yes, he's a "Special Assistant to the General Manager", whatever that means.
  23. Link Cuban is a born-and-bred Pittsburgh Pirates fan, but he knows a good investment when he sees one. If the folks in Tribune Tower ever find themselves in the mood to talk sale, Cuban would listen. "The Cubbies are such an institution, if they became available, it would certainly be exciting to consider,'' he said via e-mail.
  24. Link Jim Thome, Reds He's on the DL with tendinitis in his elbow, and he has a big contract, but Thome is the kind of power hitter several teams covet right now. Philadelphia wants to move the veteran to open up a spot for super prospect Ryan Howard. Potential Suitors: Cubs, Dodgers, Rangers, Indians
