  1. Exactly. If all it takes is Patterson to get Pierre, do it. I am not a big fan of Pierre, but he's a much better choice than what we have been trotting out there. If Pie has a great year at AA or even AAA, we can let Pierre walk and take a chance on Pie. It's a chance I'm willing to take (again, assuming another good year).
  2. Unbelievable. That just about sums it up.
  3. I give up. So you're all saying Choi was the obvious choice? Heck, he couldn't hit RHP or LHP most of the year... Look at his numbers, July - September. You're right, he should have been playing. July - .182/.270/.303/.573 August - .160/.276/.240/.516 September - .000/.167/.000/.167 FOR NEARLY ALL OF 2003, KARROS WAS A BETTER CHOICE THAN CHOI TO PLAY EVERY DAY.
  4. How the heck did this turn out to be a commentary on his career? All I pointed out was that in this case, Dusty was right to play the veteran. I'm not campaigning for him to go into the Hall for crying out loud. The Karros we saw was all of the things you point out above, but more importantly, he was a better option than Choi.
  5. A career 268/325 guy who went 286/340 with back problems!?!?!? I think so.
  6. Especially when it's covering his mullet...
  7. I'm not defending his decisions to play the vets, but Karros over Choi was a pretty bad example. Karros was having a career year and Choi was slumping something horrible. Karros deserved to get the bulk of the playing time.
  8. All that power the past couple of years didn't get us very far. Why not try something new?
  9. That is by far the funniest thing I have seen in months. What a friggin! moran
  10. Thanks. Then what the heck happens on 12/20? Man, I need to pay closer attention to things.
  11. Pardon me if I'm wrong, but if we wait until February, we won't be able to sign Burnitz either. Don't we lose the right to negotiate with him after December 20 (until May 1)?
  12. I should have prefaced my "last I heard" by saying I don't hear much. This is from June when the injury first happened. ESPN Story
  13. Fine, we'll plug Godzilla in the 5 spot, and Barrett will just have to hit .382 in the 6 hole. :)
  14. Awesome move for a guy like Rowand. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 30-35 HR season if he moved. El Duque would probably retire, and Jon Garland will show his mortality (and then some) once again.
  15. Heck yes, he could: Batting #5 .339/.431/.625/1.056 Batting #6 .382/.439/.674/1.113 Granted, this was 56 and 89 ABs respectively, but those numbers look pretty darn good to me.
  16. Last I heard, Dotel would be out pretty much all of this season. Have you heard otherwise?
  17. I'll take Mackowiak. If for no other reason than to prevent him from killing us in a double dip again. He's the kind of player we need: 1. can play just about anywhere 2. would make Macias go bye-bye
  18. There's an 11% chance of that happening.
  19. Sorry, I'm not familiar with that piece of work. Wouldn't surprise me if it was one of my friends (and I use that term very loosely). The only Cards fans I know are complete morans...
  20. You do realize it's MORON, don't you? Unless you're referring to JH's obvious resemblance to Erin Moran (a.k.a. Joanie Cunningham).
  21. Too bad the Sun Times doesn't actually fill out the lineup on a daily basis.
  22. That's a terrific point. With incentives, didn't Neifi make 2.5 mil this past season? I thought I read he earned 1 mil as base and another 1.5 based on plate appearances, etc.
  23. There's too much of a recent history of flat-out wasting that money. Sammy was worth that money for a few years, but he certainly wasn't for the last 3. Maddux was a good signing at the time, but he was given way too much money. Neifi and Glendon at ~2.5!?!?!? Whatever. Yes, the Trib is to blame. It's just like giving your sister $2 on her way to the gas station and saying "buy me a can of Coke and bring me the change". If she brings you an RC and says you owe her a dime, you need to step in and tell her she messed up. The problem with the Trib is year after year they're handing their sister $2 and don't care if she even comes back at all.
  24. I realize this may not quite be what you were going for, but... C - Todd Hundley 1B - Fred McGriff (not in his prime) 2B - Bobby Hill SS - A Gone 3B - Chris Stynes LF - Delino CF - Darren Lewis RF - Sammy Sure, some of these guys were not the regular starters, but I still cannot believe that team only lost 95 in '02.
