  1. And the 3 of them are mediocre players in what way? Who was talking about mediocrity? you were talking about jerks. Sorry, I thought the mediocrity was implied by comparing BH and Neifi.
  2. Something else to consider is attitude. While BH with the I-Cubs, I had the "pleasure" of meeting him a few times. He was an arrogant , and I was overjoyed to hear he was dealt. From what I know, Neifi has always been a very well-liked teammate. well, if he was rude to you a couple times, he obviously had a terrible attitude. Was that really necessary? Why the snide comment? I'm not the only one who ever had encounters with BH that said he had a bad attitude and was extremely arrogant. I have heard other fans as well as former teammates say the same thing. Since you have had no personal encounters with him, he obviously is a choir boy. yeah, that's what i said. Exactly.
  3. Another way for the Trib to make money. Sell the team (cash now) and negotiate TV rights (cash later). They'd still be on WGN.

  7. I agree. Unless there's a deal pending with Greenberg involved, this one is a bit of a head scratcher.
  8. I don't know the exact rules, but there are only 10-20 players taken in the major league phase of the Rule 5 draft each year (only 12 last year). The minor league numbers are more like 60-80, but I believe Greenberg would not be eligible for the minor league portion since he has major league experience (and an OBP of 1.000). Maybe JH is taking the gamble that he won't be in that 10-20. Then again, maybe I'm wrong about all of the above... :)
  9. Don;t bet on it. There's a good chance Hendry and Baker will be here win, lose, or draw. If we don't make the playoffs both SHOULD be gone IMO. Didn't someone just post a link here last week how they were both likely to get extensions done before opening day?
  10. Make sure you emphasize that the deal is Cabrera instead of Pierre straight up for Corey.
  11. Writer Chris Le Duca Age: Unknown Status: Free agent. Pros: Spelling, uses lots of stats. Cons: Friends with Mariotti. Crazy enough to think the Cubs won't land all 10 of these guys. Interested Papers: Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Washington Post Prediction: Shift manager at Burger King in Cicero
  12. Who's better? Bradley? I'll take him. Brady Clark? I'll take him too, but he may not repeat his numbers and isn't young. After that, unless you're getting Sizemore, Edmonds, Griffey, or Andruw Jones, you're hard pressed to do better. Or Beltran or Lofton. Unless you want to consider the top 10 CF in the game outstanding (which he may be in), he's really nothing more than average. What he brings in OBP, he loses in so-so defense and less than spectacular baserunning. Like I said, I don't think the guy's a bum, I just think he's highly overrated on this board.
  13. Listen, I don't think the guy's garbage, I just don't think he's the answer.
  14. I'm talking about Wilkerson. I don't understand the love affair. Maybe using "a lot" was an exaggeration, but there are definitely better options out there.
  15. Can someone fill me in on everyone's love affair for Wilkerson? I've seen him play, I've seen his stats, and I walk away from him with no fondness. I don't get why, when there are a lot of better options available, everybody is salivating over an average player.
  16. Why is the Cedeno concern unreasonable? The Cubs saw something about him at age 20 that made them want to protect him on the 40 man roster. Last year, he hit: .355/.403/.518 at AAA .300/.356/.375 at Chicago Granted, the at bats in Chicago were a small sampling, but what if he really is a .300/.356 type hitter? With Nomar coming back for 1 more year, we have the opportunity to get a better look at Cedeno and find out. With Furcal signed for at least 4 years, Cedeno doesn't get that opportunity. Cedeno is a SS, not a 2b. Maybe he can make the transition, maybe he can't. Cedeno at SS leaves the door open for Giles. Furcal probably doesn't. RF is the biggest position of need, IMO, just ahead of the need for a lead off hitter. If the Cubs trade for Pierre, lead off is addressed, but RF is still a black hole. If Cedeno is the real deal, he's wasted as a back up if we do get Furcal. Well said. I have never been a big fan of Furcal, and I think money could be spent better elsewhere. Provided there is an offensive upgrade in CF and RF, I am all for Ronny/Nomar at SS.
  17. Had to be those 2 massive HR's he hit against the Cubs at Dodger Stadium in 2000. It's the only reason I can think of...
  18. The site was updated: Sammy Sosa- will not return to O's...is on Steve Phillips' Top 50 Free Agents List and is predicted to sign with Tampa
  19. Hey Raisin, Your avatar is really creeping me out. Any chance you can change it??? :D
  20. I could see him going to Florida in a Lo Duca or Lowell deal. That's about as close to Puerto Rico as he's going to get, the fish need to fill Burnett's shoes, and AZ may need a 3B if Glaus is dealt (not to mention their catchers aren't the greatest).
  21. Good stuff is right. The other stuff I knew, but I didn't realize they gave up that much for DAVE ROBERTS of all guys.
  22. The only tool Ichiro is missing is power. He is very near the top if not at the top with the other 4. Why would you not want a player like that in your lineup? This board has officially gone insane with people mentioning Neifi and Pierre in the same breath as Ichiro. Unless the Jeopardy answer is "The 3 baseball players who couldn't possibly be more different"...
