  1. [/shameless self-promotion]
  2. Give him a shot. What can it hurt at this point?
  3. Hey, Tim whatever your last name is. You have a face for radio and a voice for print. When you can stop watching the Orioles for more than a minute, then you may comment on my formerly beloved Cubs. Grow some nads, lump Baker and Hendry together, and proudly proclaim "yes they deserve to be fired and I hope they burn in hell!"
  4. Anyone know why Scott has an Old Style? Because he already drank the other 23.
  5. Here's some more numbers for you....... 1876 thru 2005 World Series team W L pct PA W L Chicago Cubs 9835 9291 0.514 14 2 8 Atlanta Braves 9533 9556 0.499 20 3 6 All those first place finishes...... and the Braves still aren't back up to .500 !!! Go CUBS !! http://www.huge-entity.com/blogger3/scanners-exploding-head-3.jpg
  6. I'm sure they will -- but that tight rope gets harder to walk once the injury excuse isn't available. I figure that, optimistically, we may get a 3-4 weeks before the break with the "full" roster playing together. If during that stretch, there is little improvement in the results, then maybe we will actually see significant changes to both the roster and management. With everyone back from the DL, injuries will still be the main excuse. If over 500 with everyone back - "dug too deep of a hole" If under 500 with everyone back - "none were quite at 100%, gamers"
  7. I don't think they realize that nobody wants to deal right now.
  8. First pitch of a game, right down the middle, ump blows it and calls a ball. Zambrano giggles in that "you gotta be kidding me" way, kills the ump, is sentenced to death. Kevin Tapani is brought in as his replacement.
  9. That would be about 1200 more than what remained at the game yesterday after the fish went up 6-3. That place was empty.
  10. I think I already volunteered to give up the entire Peoria roster for him.
  11. Here we go, D-Rays. Here we go! Here we go, D-Rays. Here we go! Here we go, D-Rays. Here we go!
  12. Fred, you're making my brain hurt with all these numbers you keep throwing around. I got a couple for you: Braves 78, Cubs 0.
  13. If it makes you feel better, I've really tried to focus on the fact that the whole team sucks.
  14. And with this comment, Mike Quade will soon be looking for employment outside of the Chicago Cubs organization.
  15. I feel dirty, but this is the 2nd or 3rd time this month that I've agreed with Jay on something. Keep it up!
  16. That would have been a good trade for the Mets. Hernandez is clutch in the postseason. What has Kris Benson ever won? That basically was the deal. Benson was traded for Julio, Julio was traded for Hernandez.
  17. Greenberg and Theriot would not make us "a lot" better off, if any at all. They're marginal utility/backup prospects at best, and as bad as the list of clowns you mentioned have been, they're still probably a bit better overall. The fish will be better in 2 years because they're putting a lot of young talent on the field. Key word being talent. Murton and Cedeno are not quite the caliber of Hermida and Ramirez. We need to face the facts that we have seen the last of the "great" Cubs prospects for a while, except for Pie and possibly Guzman (the one who doesn't walk everyone). AAA is pretty desolate, and AA isn't looking a whole lot brighter.
  18. What teams are loaded with an abundance of young talent that will likely contend this year? Off the top of my head, the Dodgers jump out, but will Coletti ever make a fair deal with Hendry? The Angels are in the crapper right now. Are the D-Backs for real?
  19. Well tribune employee emails are; first initial last name @tribune.com I fired one off yesterday, while he did not respond, it also did not get bounced, and that is not to say it is manned, but I found it interesting that it did not bounce. I guess one could say, it is a publically traded company, and there is no reason not to have this kind of information available, especially if one would like to write or discuss scomthing with someone in this postion. The right thing to do would be to resign. BCB There's probably a catch-all account. In other words, you could in theory send a message to "FireJimHendry@tribune.com", and it would not bounce.
  20. I'm beginning to doubt that Hill will ever be a legit #3 starter in this league... I've always doubted that Hill would ever be a legit starter period.
  21. His biggest mistake was sticking around.
