  1. I see realignment has taken the Nationals out of our division.
  2. What did he do in that AB? First pitch swinging like he preaches or base on balls which he used to do a lot?
  3. I think Jeter ends up with 3500 pretty easy. That's gonna be tough. That would be 185 or so every year until he's 40. I don't think he'll make it quite that far.
  4. For a minor leaguer. I guess all you need to do to make a lot of money is be a lefty and know what a baseball is. I'd ask why he still gets jobs, but I follow a team that still employs Fat Glenny Rusch. Link
  5. Where's the kickback, Ribbee? I can accept credit card payments.
  6. Eloquent as ever, Mrs. Jones. Until the grammar and spelling are cleared up to the point where I can understand an entire post of yours, please do not resort to personal attacks. I don't understand how your misunderstanding of a desire to see changes made result in that being okie logic on my part. Try again, coach unoriginal avatar. Ryno was advocating giving the kids a shot to allow them to develop. Murton, Pie, and Montanez (all at the league minimum) have the potential to equal or exceed the production of Murton, Pierre, and Jones (at 12M+). Pierre and Jones have established what the rest of their careers will probably look like, and the odds are very against them to improve significantly. Murton, Pie, and Montanez are all still learning the game and could outproduce the current OF while still improving. There is no veteran bias, and this is not an instance of what you perceive to be blind hatred toward Jacque (reminder that I already advocated a Murton/Jones platoon). If we are going to lose 100 games (which we will do easily at this pace), why would you not want to give these kids a shot to see what they will give you for the future? You know exactly what you will get with Jones, the rest are unknown. And what pitchers are going to rebel? The same pitchers who have one of the worst outfields in baseball right now? The same pitchers who cannot refrain from walking too many? The same pitchers who keep giving up homeruns? Are we 25th in ERA because of the outfield? If they haven't rebelled already with the abysmal lineup that's currently behind them, they probably never will. Odds are, a good chuck of them won't be with the team later this year or next anyway.
  7. Sheffield will NOT be a 1st balloter, if he makes it at all. Jeter, barring injuries, will get 3200 tops.
  8. Don't forget Fast Freddie Bynum. Might as well keep Theriot and call up Fontenot too.
  9. Astros? Try '03 Tigers or '04 D-Backs.
  10. Wow, I just now realized how horrible Ozzie was offensively in his career. I knew he was bad, but oh my lord... 264/287/338/625
  11. How much experience did Ozzie have when he took the Sox to the promise land last year? He coached with both Montreal and Florida before being named manager. did he bench coach or play in atlanta under bobby cox? i seem to hear him reference cox alot. are there any people on atlanta's coaching staff that might take the job here? He played for them in 98 & 99.
  12. Can't stay away from a Sosa thread, can you?
  13. Mark Cuban is from Pittsburgh. He is a business man, though, and I think he can see the cash cow that a team like the Cubs could be.
  14. We haven't been doing so hot with the ones that do have experience.
  15. Read my stuff over the past few weeks. I constantly mention it and ask about it. How do you know nobody has asked about it? I ask about it every day and write about it more than anybody. This is an organization that clearly values other stats. But why? How can they continue to deny that speed does no good if you can't get on base or that really good defense will only result in all of the runs being earned in yet another loss? At what point do they look at the standings and statistics and say "gee, maybe we're doing this wrong"?
  16. Troll! How dare you say the Cubs suck!?!?
  17. Calm down. Jones's OPS is 80 points higher than Murton right now. However, Jacque has shown since 2002 that he is probably going to end up in that 750 range. Murton's minor league average is 831, and he was over 900 everywhere he was last year. Jones is on the wrong side of 30, Murton is still young and improving. Jones makes 6M, Murton's at the league minimum. Right now, they would make an excellent platoon, but given a choice between the 2 of them, it's a no-brainer. An OF of Montanez, Murton, and Pie right now is more desirable than Murton, Pierre and Jones if this team is going to continue losing the way they are. We could see those young players develop instead of watching veterans do nothing of significance to turn things around. Those are the freakin facts.
  18. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but they had a baby boy sometime in the weeks after the convention. They named him Sportin.
  19. I threw a remote control a the screen; the screen didn't break but the remote did. Does that count? I broke my remote into about 30 pieces during the eighth inning of Game 6. Funny, I drank about 30 beers.
  20. Give him a shot. What can it hurt at this point? I'm absolutely schocked by this development, but at this stage in the season, why wouldn't you give him a shot? He's only got 1 K as well, compared to 26 in his first 141 AB in AA. He's only doing it because I officially labeled him a bust at the beginning of this season. I'm trying that same voodoo crap on the rest of the organization, it's just not working yet.
  21. I don't think Gammons is buying it. He's the only national voice with that opinion, though. Gammons for GM! :P I kid. He picked Nomar to win the 2005 NL MVP. Let's not go too far. It's the Gammons jinx. He picks guys, they fail. He picked Kerry Wood for Cy Young in 2004.
  22. "Blah, blah, blah, bad luck, blah, blah, injuries, blah, blah, Dusty Baker extension, blah."
  23. I hope he's right and Marky actually gets (and stays) healthy.
  24. Does Tim realize that a good GM would have already thought of obtaining more premium free agents? Isn't that what he said, Hendry's doing a good job?
