  1. One of these things is not like the other one... In more way than one. The first digit is twice as much as the other three added together; the second digit is even while the others are all odd; and the third digit is odd while the others are all even. Some of Fred Hornkohl must be rubbing off on me. :D Fred, if I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times. Stop rubbing on people!
  2. I don't know about that, Theriot is not much of a threat to do anything productive. Yeah, it was kind of a stretch, but anyway what's the point of having him up? He was quicker than Restovich?
  3. Until cancer and death become lauging manners, you really shouldn't make light of them either. Your silence would have been appreciated.
  4. Most players wear the powder blue wristbands and such. They do it on Father's Day as i recall.
  5. It's nice to see he's finally doing something. I still have my doubts that he'll ever contribute at the big league level, but he may prove me wrong at the rate he's going.
  6. He better learn to hit, he's batting 5th today (for some strange reason).
  7. Were there any other personnel differences in those seasons? Say Jimmy Rollins or Pat Burrell. Stuff like that? Burrell was there in 2000, and Rollins didn't even have that good a year in 2001. My bad, I was thinking 01 was Burrell's first year as well. Regardless, Larry Bowa was not the only change made between 00 and 01. Travis Lee has a solid season as I recall, and Ron Gant and Mickey Morandini (639 OPS) were gone from the everyday lineup too. Their pitching staff was quite a bit better as well. The bullpen was better but not really the rotation. Schilling wasn't there in 2001. He wasn't there for half of 2000 either. Regardless, Bowa was not the only change.
  8. Wow. Even Dusty should be able to see that split. I bet Davey Johnson would. http://www.webpages.uidaho.edu/~hobd8260/BeatDeadHorse.gif

  11. Actually, that was probably because Dibble was/is a loon too.
  12. My bad, I meant to throw a "compliment" in there. An 815 OPS from him over the course of the entire season would greatly exceed my expecations. Good job lately, Jacque.
  13. 074/219/074/293 Hank White's line this season. Makes Jacque look like the Chosen One.
  14. Cubs win, 4-3. Shaky start by Marshall, reminding us all that he's human (and a rookie).
  15. Yes, and both have sadly turned a good story for a great cause into a joke.
  16. Close enough? yeah, we'll give it to you. Now what do you want? How bout some respect for a change? Nah, didn't think so.
  17. True. Also I googled Jim Hendry tenure. Fifth listing down gave me this press release, which included this quite: Hendry originally joined the club as the director of player development in 1994 and was named the scouting director the following year. In 2001, he was promoted to vice president of player personnel. You crazy computer geeks. I totally forgot about the internet.
  18. Hendry originally joined the club as the director of player development in 1994 and was named the scouting director the following year. In 2001, he was promoted to vice president of player personnel. This team is entirely of Jim Hendry's making. There is no more "cleaning up others' mess" excuse. He's been a huge part of this organization for over a decade, and in charge for 4 years. Before that he played a crucial role in nearly all personel decisions. Thanks...I didn't know the specifics. Goony did because he is Jim Hendry.
  19. yeah, because the guy w/ speed is in a massive slump. get murton on w/ a single or walk and they need two base hits to get him in. good luck stringing those hits together, w/ this club. bat cedeno first instead and up the chances of getting someone across the plate. station to station baseball doesn't work w/ one power hitter. probably not even two. get three and probably. But Murton getting on base more and going station to station definitely outweighs Pierre rarely getting on base and maybe taking an extra base. I have no problem moving Pierre to 7th or 8th. I'd just prefer Cedeno leading off over Murton. Cedeno 1 & Murton 2 is fine w/ me. Murton & Walker 1 & 2 is even better.
  20. Ryan Harvey Luis Montanez David Kelton Quincy Carter Antwaan Randle El Ozzie Timmons Gary Scott Alex Arias Too depressed to go on...
  21. Fixed. Nah, they would have to be hard hit grounders for that. I can see your point. Murton draws a walk. Pierre hits a soft grounder, Murton out at 2nd, Pierre is too fast/ball is hit too softly for a double play to occur. Now Pierre is at first and can get in the pitcher's head and Cubs score 13 runs! http://www.guinness.com/NR/rdonlyres/D82206F9-E43B-4AA9-BE4D-3A75140BC5A0/0/ads_lbb_grab3.jpg
