  1. 2004 Lilly would work out alright. Anyone got a time machine?
  2. He keeps players like Fast Freddie Bynum off the roster. Except Bynum had a good 63 points of OPS on Pagan. Heck, Juan Pierre had a higher OPS than Pagan. I disliked Bynum as much as the next guy, but I don't understand why we give Pagan an easier time. Is it his cool name? I would have answered the question the same way if we dealt Pagan over Bynum.
  3. It's not too late -- they still owe us a guy.
  4. He keeps players like Fast Freddie Bynum off the roster.
  5. and 2003 prior Then throw in 2001 Wade Miller and 2004 Zambrano, and that 2004 Ted Lilly is a nice bonus.
  6. Would it be too greedy to ask for 1st half Penny and 2nd half Hill in the rotation?
  7. bingo. If the thinking involves Floyd as an everyday man, there isn't much thinking going on. bingo
  8. We just HAD to have him as our CF'er didn't we, Jim? Dolt. At $9M, I didn't want him at SS either.
  9. He pounded the ball in the second half, and his .060 IsoD is far from a disaster. Did Pie participate in any of the winter leagues? If so, how did he do? You don't want to know. That's not good. And it's an understatement, if you can believe that.
  10. Funny... a few weeks ago, I suggested 3/24 and got laughed at for "overpaying." It is definitely overpaying, whether you suggested it or Boston offered it. ...or perhaps there are some on this message board who don't have a firm grasp on the current market situation? I dont know who laughed at you but the rumors from the very beginning of the offseason were 4/32, so I don't see how 3/24 was that earth shattering of a prediction. Considering the SS market next offseason, this is a very very good move if they dont want to use Pedoria there. Isn't Pedroia a 2B not a SS? He's played both but projected at 2B.
  11. Or sign Bonds and Church and have a loaded offense. Still need pitching. And if they sign Meche and Lilly, they'll still need pitching. If those are the only legitimate choices (at the prices being mentioned), I go with the kids and stack the offense. What did "going with the Kids" get us last year? About as far as going with guys like Meche will get us in 07.
  12. Control was most definitely his problem last year. K's were down, walks were up. From what I saw of him, it seems to me that he was missing a lot early and leaving the ball over the plate when he was hitting the zone. Unless there are mechanical issues we don't know about, I think 06 will be Duke's worst season. His success against the Cubs probably had to do with our lineup of free swingers.
  13. But they work really hard or something.
  14. Works for me Me too, I just wish it was someone other than Levine saying it.
  15. I remember a piece on him shortly before the draft where he got to meet Griffey Jr. and fell in love with the kid. I was really hoping the Cubs would get an opportunity to pick him, but they had to screw up and have a decent record in 04.
  16. Angel Guzman? :) Yeah, but Guzman doesn't have his experience. Seriously, from the look of those highlights I wonder why the guy only won 11 last year. He really has great stuff from the llok of them. His win total is insignificant. It's the rest of his totals that make him not good. You do realize he's not good, don't you? Here's proof in case you need it: http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mechegi01.shtml
  17. Jacque also said that on ESPNews earlier. I got the impression that he might have told Hendry that he wouldn't put up a fight if he wanted to deal him but that he never actually requested to be dealt.
  18. Great idea, but don't you think Novoa should be used to acquire someone like ARod or Tejada? I'd trade him for a quarter-pint of jack daniels. Sadly, I doubt you could get that much.
  19. Giles had 140 more plate appearances to basically create the same amount of runs.
