  1. Did Matheny get a Darryl Kile tattoo? He just loves ketchup.
  2. There's a ton of great food down here, but that list includes almost none of the stuff they claim as their own. Pork steaks and gooey buttercake are about it. Proven is so bad melted on anything but is tolerable when it's cold and still has some structure to it.
  3. what's crazy is with these guys if anything it's been the opposite of what he was saying . none of the scouting reports had guys like javy, addy, KB, etc. as great as they are defensively. of course, considering addy and JB were shortstops, they were supposed to be pretty good to good but there wasn't really talk of them being elite impact/difference making defensive players (in fact, some reports even questioned whether they could stick at SS)...and obviously there were some iffy reports on KB at 3B (not saying there weren't good ones too). i just don't think the scouting reports were as high as they should've been on these guys as defenders when they were coming up. That's a really good point. I remember going to see Iowa play a three-game series in OKC and thinking Bryant looked stiff and frankly too tall to play 3B. I was totally sold on Baez though, because he made a number of "Baez" plays in that series, and I had gone into it thinking of him as this error-prone lackadaisical goober I saw Javy play in Peoria very early on and he was very clearly the best player on the field. Wasn't any question in my mind.
  4. How long is that drive again? :-k ~4 hours
  5. Perfect. I can get sloppy at the game tomorrow and was going to have to stay relatively sober today. I will probably have an extra free ticket if anybody is in town.
  6. How is a person who is this bad at the English language getting a paycheck from a newspaper? [tweet] [/tweet]
  7. When the hell did you move to St. Louis from Seattle (or wherever exactly it was in the pacific NW)? A year ago, I made a bunch of posts about it. just kidding, it was a month ago We should drink and watch Cubs games and laugh at Cardinals fans together. I've been kind of on an island since woodchip left.
  8. Your short on both food and beers. You going PFT Commenter on us now?
  9. Holy horsefeathers that's great People really need to use the horsefeathering tweet tags.
  10. I'm going to the first game in Milwaukee next Friday night. I expect there to be 80% + Cubs fans I'm likely going to the opener at Busch. Tickets are stupid for opening day here but a coworker with season tickets (who's also a Cubs fan) probably can't go and I'm getting them cheap. I'll be slightly surprised if there's a big Cubs contingent that night.
  11. They have one of the top ranked catching prospects, #65 overall per BA, in AAA. Didn't realize that. I thought about checking but I was far too lazy to. Why is that not being mentioned more in this storyline? I guess playing them both and working him in (assuming he has success) as Molina fades out isn't a terrible arrangement either. This is the part that may be an issue for them. In addition to Matheny being a veteran nuthugger, I imagine Molina likely won't take kindly to being relegated to a backup role and might get a little redassed about it knowing his personality.
  12. Vegas has win total for the Reds around 70 most places. I'm tempted to put a not small amount of money on the under.
  13. black clothing = good gold clothing = terrible You couldn't be more wrong. http://obamapacman.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/MC-Hammer-U-Cant-Touch-This-gold-pants-hammer-time.jpg
  14. Like most teams it probably all depends on how well their pitching performs. They have a ton of question marks in their rotation ranging from guys coming back from injury to under performing last year, Martinez is the only sure fire bet. Their bullpen is pretty good so not too many issues there. They shouldn't have too many problems scoring and should be a top ten scoring offense. The defense is going to cost them dearly several time this year, they are just awful defensively, their range is atrocious. I agree with you Duke, they may be lucky to win 81 games if their rotation falters. If their rotation steps up they'll be in the fight for at least a wild card. The generally sub par defense, especially on the infield, is going to wreak as much havoc on guys like Leake as it did last year and it's going to make the pitching staff look markedly worse than it probably really is.
  15. This was kind of how I was looking at it. Didn't really think it was a big deal.
  16. And don't forget to factor in the financing plan Zell required for the purchase so he didn't have to pay as much in taxes on the sale. That factor alone greatly narrowed the field of potential buyers so we possibly end up with the Ricketts anyway.
  17. I'm torn as to what I would enjoy more, them signing him to some huge dollar contract and then him being terrible or the absolute hell that will break loose when they don't sign him at all.
  18. I'm not a big Michigan fan, but any time one of the rigatoni boys loses I'm a happy camper.
  19. Breaking: Adrian Gonzalez is still mad and no fun. [tweet] [/tweet]
  20. Happ just went deep again. Kid is killing it right now.
  21. My earliest Cubs game memory is my grandparents 50th anniversary celebration being at Wrigley. No memory of the game, but it was June 1993. Random Tuesday in June 2002 where Alex Gonzales hit a walk off HR. Stupid one pitch Rich Hill and the lead off HR by Chris young in NLDS game 3 2007. May 14th 2012 when I took my daughter to her first game ever. Cubs beat the Cards at Busch. Game 5 of the 2016 WS. Nuff said.
  22. Especially since they named Walker the intern and he would then be suspended if they were selected. But, it won't happen. What's this?
  23. Obviously not the same type of movement or stress on that part of the body, but Wainwright blew his out on opening day and pitched in October, so an additional month is probably not completely out of the question timewise. Especially when you consider this guy is 10+ years younger and probably in better shape to begin with.
