Yeah, no. You just saw why they didn't go for it. The Lions are cutting up the Bears' defense today. On 4th and 2 from where they were at, there is no reason to not go for it. The Bears are the better team, act like it. Lovie has no balls when it comes to going for it Why would you give the Lions 25 yards to get to FG range with a minute left? You don't. You have confidence you can get the damn first down because you're the better team.
I think this may be the biggest factor as the year goes on. At one point yesterday, they had 4 guys on the floor who were 6'8" or taller and we were probably still quick enough to not get killed with a mismatch. There's just so much height and depth that if they keep the foot on the gas for an entire 40 minutes, they'll wear teams down and hopefully that can cover enough for the fact that the entire team is allergic to boxing out. My high school coach would have us running and doing box out drills for the entire practice after how pathetic they rebounded yesterday. Awful.
A little of both. Wisconsin got a lead, NC State's best player wasn't dressed for the game, and after they got up by about 12 or 15, NC State just kind of quit trying. As tough as Wisconsin's defense is to score on when you're going 100%, they're impossible to score against when you aren't. NC State went like 15 straight possessions without scoring at the end of the first and start of the second.
It's scary to think what the back court will look like in 2 years if all these guys stick around. I hope they run and run and then run some more. DJ, Paul, Head, Bertrand, Abrams, Henry, that's just a lot of talent and they're all really athletic.
Jereme Richmond was the best player on the court last night and I didn't think it was particularly close. He's going to be amazingly good by the end of the year. Bruce just needs to put him out there and let him go. Things flowed so much better when he and McCamey were out there together.
his team loves him and he's managed a bunch of former head coaches without drama. lovie is what he is: a fairly successful system head coach that players believe in and will go to war for. i don't see how you can ask for much than that. his tenure has not been marked by a particular amount of incompetence. there have been mistakes but most of them have been corrected. if he gets his players on the field, they generally play well and win games. On top of that, in his defense, he's not the guy who never drafts offensive linemen creating a huge weakness in the team. And I think the bolded probably doesn't get mentioned enough.
I was running on a treadmill the other night watching the ESPN coverage of it and doing the math in my head. The guy had a completely white head of hair in the mid-1970s when he was like 40. :-o I thought he was a whole lot older than he really was.
Big number for me. I only noticed 2 higher WAR than mine at a quick glance and one was due to a steroid fueled 124 or something from Clemens. Any way, here's my five: 89 - Wade Boggs 57.2 - Billy Williams 47.1 - Andy Pettitte 46.5 - Brett Butler 35.7 - Lance Parrish And I missed K. Wood by one day.
And therein lies the biggest problem. Receivers who are too dumb to make a hot read, break a route off (the right way, anyhow), or make any kind of adjustment at all. Warner was great in St. Louis because he got rid of the ball and Holt and Bruce were smart and knew where to be on every play.
