  1. Not sure I'm following him there. Small market teams get money from Yankees and Red Sox and they are forced to spend it, but this system won't allow them to spend it wisely, on their system. How so, though? They still have to spend it on players. Yeah, they're now spending it on crappy major league players instead of being able to spend it on potential superstar amateurs. This was a total money grab by the owners and current players without any foresight into the future health of the game as a whole or individual franchises.
  2. I actually said exactly this to somebody yesterday, and it was only about half in jest.
  3. So if we ignore the worst part of his season, his season looks better? I will never get tired of disliking these types of arguments. His season is his season. Tacking on his postseason numbers to show how close he got to recovering from the slump makes sense to me. Parsing out his pre-April 11 numbers does not. Actually, I think it does make a difference when you factor in he was facing the best pitching in baseball in the post season and had great numbers. That, and how many other guys start off the season slow? I mean DLee was pretty much awful in April every year.
  4. I haven't seen the Bengals play yet this year, but from the little I've watched today, Andy Dalton is amazingly accurate with his throws.
  5. His father suggest a rule change that would make it where the top three bids would be able to negotiate with the player posted. I doubt they'd ever agree to something like that. My understanding is that the bidding process is blind, meaning that the bidders have no idea what the other teams interested are bidding. You could have one team bid 30 million and the next closest bid 15 million. I'm guessing whichever team the player decided to go with would be the one to pay the actual fee? So the Japanese team would stand to lose millions in that scenario. I think something like that could work as long as there was a stipulation that the 2nd and 3rd team had to be within a certain number (10%? 20%?) of the top bid. That way it's fair to both the player and the team posting him. The player can get a better deal because he has options and the posting team doesn't get screwed if something like the $30m/$15m scenario actually happened.
  6. Because there's always been a ton of bitching about Sori not working hard? He may be dumb and a terrible fielder, but from everything I've ever read, he works very hard at being as good as he can be.
  7. I'm not sure what they're saying/thinking, but I take it to mean if you make a mistake, acknowledge you made one, learn from it and don't make the same mistake again. It's the repeated mistakes that absolutely drive me crazy, whether it's a baseball player or somebody who works for me.
  8. ehhh, i don't know about this. would this story be coming out if sveum were a white guy? i feel liken this just a "lol look at how the black man doesn't know what to do" sort of thing. very condescending. Wait, what? Sveum is black?
  9. Rumor has it he may have been visiting the RB that just blew up his knee at the rehab facility he's at. Not sure what to make of that other than it's weird to be hammered and visiting a player in the hospital, if that is in fact the case.
  10. Except for how that didn't actually happen. If a Wilson contract turns out as well as Dempster's in terms of production per dollar spent, I think we'd all be pretty damn pleased with the signing.
  11. Well, not necessarily. They just don't have any record of a police report being filed. That doesn't mean he didn't talk to them and they just completely ignored it. Not to say I 100% believe him, but with all the other bizarre isht that's gone on in this story, I really wouldn't be surprised if he's telling the truth and they didn't do any follow up.
  12. why on earth would the bears game be blacked out in st. louis? I saw that on the506, its just a grey hole in the broadcast map. hell, even I get the Bears game this week. weird. Because the Rams have a game at 3:15 and they don't show another NFL game at the same time. Same thing happens in Chicago. It will be on Sunday ticket though. Yep, it only happens when they have a home game fortunately. One of the downsides to living in/near an NFL city is that I regularly only get 2 games in a week if the doubleheader is on the wrong channel that week.
  13. Will somewhere like Buffalo Wild Wings get the Bears game in the St. Louis area even though it's blacked out from other 3:00 games?
  14. Yeah, but Norv Turner coaches this team.
  15. Yeah, pretty sure the Feds need to step in and take this thing over before he ends up walking away scott free because of the Penn State blindness around there. Jesus. http://gma.yahoo.com/judge-set-no-bail-penn-state-sex-abuse-103722462.html
  16. There's a huge difference between one idiot making a dumb play and a pattern of dirty plays exhibited by the Lions. Throw in the reputation that Schwartz is beginning to develop after the way the Titans used to play and how the Lions do now and there's an enormous gap between those two conversations.
  17. There's been some rumbling down this way that he was a favorite after his interview, but yeah, I don't think any of the national guys saw that coming.
  18. Morales Career: .284 .336 .502 .838 And those numbers are pushed down a bit by his first season: .213 .273 .393 .666 If he's healthy, you could do a whole lot worse than that for Marmol. Not that this is really a possibility or anything, but it wouldn't be a bad move.
  19. It sounds like the Cards brass has serious doubts on how Oquendo would handle the media side of things. Just the rabble on local sports talk radio here and there, but that's something I've been hearing pretty regularly.
  20. At least Brennaman just correctly called that Fairley play dirty. Got one thing right today at least.
  21. Well, considering he's got like 5 or 6 inches and probably 20-30 ponds on him, I'm not sure that's really accurate. Especially since he, like a little bitch, grabbed him by the helmet and facemask to throw him down because he got very well blocked by a dude half his size.
  22. I'm 35 and the only other guy I remember is Eddie Murray.
  23. it was found in the alamo's basement =D> Ha! That took me a minute, but, yeah, what scarey said!
  24. I don't know if I can. Are there really any other major universities that have the kind of isolation that PSU does? What do you mean? PSU isn't close to the only university sitting well away from civilization. Well, that's part of it, but I was more referring to their tendency to not bring in outsiders. From what I've read, most everybody on campus has some sort of ties to the school, from sports personnel to professors. It just sounds like in general there's really a lot of groupthink being fostered because there's not any (or very little) outside influence in any part of the institution.
