    Oh yeah baby, the MacPhail/Hendry plan. Worked like a charm last time. Better than the strategy of the last 5 years. At least they ended up with Wood, Prior, Cruz, Z, and a few others out of it. They haven't developed a decent starter in years (unless you count Wells). And I'm not agreeing with him either by the way. Just pointing out that the overall draft/develop strategy has been awful for a while.

    Baker crushes lefties, plays multiple positions, and isn't very expensive. I have no earthly idea why you want to get rid of him when he's a very useful player. If he was making $5 million, okay, but he's not. Stop trying to get rid of players who are very productive when used properly. It's dumb and makes the team worse.

    He wants the other 3 percent of the offer to go to Kwame Brown. Did you see that Yahoo! article? Apparently Jordan was leading a group who didn't want to give the players more than 37% at the beginning of the negotiations.

    If they're not idiots about it the city will get paid back tenfold over time if they help with the initial investment. It's a win-win.

    Didn't he tweak something minor, like what Cashner just got over, that put the brakes on the experiment? I could have sworn it was a minor injury that would have delayed him getting innings in that killed it.

    I was about to say. His FIP and xFIP have been 4.00 or higher the past two years, more or less... 2010 FIP: 4.19 xFIP: 4.29 ERA: 4.64 WAR: 1.2 2011 FIP: 3.99 xFIP: 4.23 ERA: 2.98 WAR: 1.5 I'm all for exploring to acquire him because I do think he's a fine pitcher, but I think he's being a little overvalued here A 2.98 ERA in 23 starts is only good for 1.5 WAR? That seems really low.

    I'll unblock ads if you can get rid of the one with the smiley faces that says something and the "You win". Make that go away and I''l happily unblock ads. That one makes me crazy, and it's everywhere!

    Pujols may not have been affected by LaRussa's status, but LaRussa may have been affected by Pujols's status. Yeah, this is how I look at it. Which is why I said somewhere earlier that LaRussa's decision may have been influenced by Pujols' decision (if he's made one).

    This was my thought. Maybe Albert told him he's not coming back no matter what. Lots of signs pointing to him leaving, he asked Tony to sign a photo from his rookie year before game 6. That doesn't sound like someone who was planning on being together much longer. Not sure what other signs there are, but it's possible LaRussa told the team at some point during the season that he was done at the end of the year so Pujols knew Game 6 could have been his last game. Nope, first the team heard of it was after the parade yesterday. Mozeliak said on the radio this morning 5 or 6 people knew about it before then. I guess Pujols could have been one of them.

    Yeah, but that's entirely because of the crazy. If you had Z without the sideshow, as everybody has said, he's a perfectly fine pitcher to have in your rotation who, at the very worst, most likely eats a lot of innings at better than a league average level.

    He hasn't been with the team in months since his wife has a serious brain tumor(as if there's any other kind). I'd have to say it's a longshot he returns to St. Louis. Was that his evil twin making mound visits the other night? He's been with the team on and off while that's been going on.

    Dewitt was on the radio down here a few weeks ago and said pretty flat out that the Cardinals didn't make any significant amount of money off of the playoffs unless they went 7 games of the World Series. That being said, I'm sure they made money, but not anything significant enough to pay Pujols any more than they already could. Now, whether he was telling the truth or not is an entirely different story. Interesting side note, I was told that they were selling the empty champagne bottle from the NLCS celebration in the team store at the stadium. WTF?

    Yes, this. You're getting a much better WAR:$ value by doing it shorter and with a higher AAV. And in the years you would have had him at 1B (7-10), you can get somebody different for cheaper/the same money and get a more accurate value for them.

    Pujols for 6/$200M? I'm in. The one reason I don't want him is the absurdity of giving a guy a 10 year contract that starts in his age 32 season. If you can be done with him at the end of his age 37 season? Awesome, even if the AAV is a bit ridiculous. He'll probably be worth, or close, it until maybe the last year of the deal.
