    Yes, very good. So, he's Adam Everett. Except he can actually hit a little bit when his brain doesn't get in the way. Really, he's kind of Theriot with a little better speed and a lot better defense. He's just not having a very good year. He's probably not as good offensively as I remember him being last year, but he's not nearly as bad as he's been this year

    Sort of OT, but I'm listening to these guys (ok, meatheads) on the St. Louis ESPN radio affiliate and they're talking about how Theriot and Lilly would be a good fit for the Cards. The funny part is how one of them just said Theriot is a better defensive player than Brendan Ryan or Tyler Greene and hits as well as either one. The guy who said it is also the same guy who thought the Alex Gonzales that the Blue Jays just traded was the same one that booted the ball in the 2003 NLCS for the Cubs. Giant moron.

    i'm sure the pointless 2 or 3 week shift to the bullpen benefited him greatly. At this point I have trouble believing that's all that's wrong. Is he nearing a new high in innings pitched?

    To add to what has already been said, international doesn't mean just the Pac Rim kids. The Cubs haven't signed a big money guy from Latin America in a while and that potential savings may allow them to try to make a splash on one or two of the wunderkinds from that area as well as the apparent success they're having in the Far East.

    There have been reports out that Oswalt will restructure his deal so they are able to pick up the option and not kill them payroll wise. But yeah, that doesn't take into account they don't have the prospects to pull off the deal unless Houston is brain dead, which I guess isn't out of the question.

    The Cubs are still on my TV, more than 150 times a year because I HAVE DIRECTV i honestly don't understand why anyone who can get it doesn't. Because I don't feel like paying $180 to watch maybe half the games. There's so many on during the day that it's hard to justify paying that much for really so few games. My cable bill is way too high already.

    Ricciardi was on ESPN Radio gushing about the 2 prospects the Braves got back. I don't know if they're as good as he was saying or if he was just pumping up guys he helped draft, but he really made it sound like those guys were a more important part of the deal for the Braves than Gonzales.

    I get that, but I'm more inclined to give credit to the actual coaching staff over Jordan. I think there's a lot to be said about competition every day in practice. Jordan destroyed other guys who couldn't handle it (Rodney McCrae), but Pippen took on the challenge and became a great player. Was Jordan solely responsible? Absolutely not, but providing daily competition certainly played a big part in it. Pippen had the physical tools and the mental toughness to become what he did, but without the daily challenge from both Jordan and the coaching staff, he probably doesn't reach his potential. It's the same reason a guy who's drafted from a small town in Idaho takes longer and may not ever develop into a great baseball player, he didn't face high level competition early on and may suffer long term from that.

    So you think the lack of rebounding and defense provided by Grant had nothing to do with the Bulls losing to the Magic? Also, how do you explain the Bulls, with Grant and without Jordan, losing to the Knicks only because of a crap call the year before that? Grant was hugely important to those teams and they wouldn't have gotten the second 3 if they hadn't gotten a defensive and rebounding guy to replace him at the PF spot.

    Not that it doesn't indicate Miami, but I'd think even if I signed a 120 million dollar deal with the Wolves, I'd want to celebrate on South Beach. No, if you signed with the T-Wolves you'd get that hooker boat the Vikings had a few years ago.

    The city's biggest sports icons will now be umm Grady Sizemore and Joshua Cribbs? Mike Holmgren? Pretty sure at least a couple of the offensive linemen are bigger than him..... :hello:

    If Lilly will be a Type A, shouldn't he be looking for more than one guy at that level?

    The 6th year he doesn't get from the Bulls he'll be paid for in the first year of his next contract. Like he said, it may only be $15 million at that point, but he'll still get a chunk of it back. Even without the CBA/extra year gamble, the AAV of the contract is higher, right? He can't get that money back. Yeah, but again, he'll get a chunk of that money back. And if the option is Chicago with Rose, Bosh, Deng, and Noah along with being around your kids a lot more vs Miami with Bosh and 2,00 miles from your kids, I don't know that the ~$15 million difference is all that much when you're already guaranteed over $100 million. But that's just me, and I'm not sure I can even fathom what $30M would really be like, let alone $100M.

    Well, this thread has drifted far away from the fire sale talk, but I was just told by a guy who I believe to be reliable that if the Cubs don't take 3 of 4 from the Reds this weekend that the fire sale will commence. No idea if the information is accurate, but he's not a guy who has any reason to BS about it. I guess we'll see what happens next week after they give away another series.

    You're confusing Oklahoma with Kentucky. And that was a bad flop by Brazil at the top of the 18 yard box. That is by far the worst part of high level (international at least) soccer.

    lebron is not the greatest player of all time, even arguably. This is about the NBA.....reading is fundamental.

    I thought that would be a good option as well until I looked at his numbers from the last couple years, including so far this year. Ugly, especially if he's asking for a lot of money. My list: Trade-Lilly, Silva, Theriot, Fukudome and Lee if you can get good return, Keep-Gorz, Demp, A near future rotation with Z, Demp, Gorz, Wells, and Cashner or Jackson would look pretty good and also be relatively cheap for the potential quality you'd have. The offense is an entirely different proposition though. That sucks and will take some creativity and bounce back seasons to salvage any time soon.

    Because high school courses are only worth one credit. I think I had like 19 credits going into my senior year of high school and only needed 1 or 2 more to graduate. I don't find that too far fetched. It sounds strange, but why he wouldn't be given credit for the "home school" classes from the accredited private school doesn't make much sense to me.

    If it is just an experiment to determine if they can handle it mentally and physically before they send them to the bigs later this season, I agree, no big deal. It also might help them to figure out a warm up routine before getting promoted. I also agree that there doesn't seem to be a point to doing it, nothing we've heard about these guys would lead me to believe either one is as mercurial as Z.

    I've been in the leave Cashner in Iowa camp, but toonster does make a great point. Maybe leave him there until he hits a little over 100 innings and then bring him up to the big league pen where he'll throw another 30 innings or so to get him to 150ish. It saves his arm a bit and probably helps stabilize the late innings when they have a lead. If that's the way they go with the plan to build more arm strength and get to 180 or so next year, I'm fine with that. So long as they don't do the yoyo thing.

    So, yet another reason to hate the Cardinals. No HD for me because stupid KSDK has the Cards game on and I have to watch on whatever crappy station this is.
