  1. I wouldn't have had a problem with Ohno getting DQ'd if there was some consistency. The race he lost out on a medal in, he got pushed much harder than he "pushed" the guy last night, but because his balance was better and he stayed up, the guy didn't get DQ'd when he should have been. Even though Ohno didn't fall, the bump/push certainly cost him a medal. Just a little consistency would be nice, although when you change the head judge because his life is getting threatened, I guess things may be looked at differently.
  2. The way you're describing it really sounds like they may just be exhausted from a lack of depth and being so young and not used to a longer, more physical season. I have to think that's at least part of it, because giving up certainly doesn't strike me as being the MO of a Crean coached team.
  3. After the debate about the Purdue game earlier, I just want to make it clear that I'm not an Illini home when it comes to reffing. Michigan got screwed a couple times, most specifically when Tisdale banged into a guy shooting a layup and there was no call. They weren't a s bad a Aldrich dump trucking that guy from Colorado with no call, but they were definitely fouls.
  4. scarey, you were watching a different game than I was if that's what you saw. I'm normally not one to piss and moan about reffing, but it was bad in that game. The overall physicality that Purdue was allowed to play with and not get called for versus the fact that if somebody looked at Hummel wrong when he was in the post it was a foul was inexcusable. I'm not saying it was the determining factor in the game, but a lot of those call came at key moments that really hurt Illinois' momentum. Plus, nobody this side of Duke flops around as much as Kramer to get calls. That combined with how physical he plays and his constant "Who, me?" when he does get called just pisses people off. You're not getting sympathy about anything he does from anybody who's not a Purdue fan.
  5. I don't care where it is, I'd much rather have a 10 seed than an 8 or 9, regardless of who a 2nd round opponent might be.
  6. There were 4 or 5 calls in that game that really changed the complexion of the last 5 minutes. The 2 terrible blocking calls on Cole (only 1 was late), the charge call against DJ, the illegal screen against Davis, and probably a couple others I'm forgetting because I was throwing [expletive] at the TV I got so pissed. Those really made a huge difference in momentum and the way the last 5 minutes played out. If you think differently, you weren't paying attention, I don't care who you root for.
  7. Syracuse missed the tournament once with 10 Big East wins and I believe Penn State or someone else missed the tourney last year with 10 Big Ten wins. Syracuse doesn't ever count when they're on the bubble because they play 14 D2 teams in non-conference every year. I really think they'll get in at 11-7. Whether they beat Minny and Michigan or lose one of those and beat UW I don't think matters. Also, possibly one of the most homer reffed games I've ever seen today. Absolutely awful.
  8. I saw that. The only thing I noticed at a quick glance was the loss to Michigan and I was like, wait, we haven't even played them yet. Also, that traveling call on Iverson when he got under cut was amazingly BS.
  9. The easy thing is to go to a game, it's incredible. But if you can watch poker for longer than hockey, then maybe you are beyond help. Going to a game may just reinforce his hatred for watching it on TV since the experience live is so much better than TV. I think either you love hockey or you don't. Personally I don't love it, but there is no better sporting event to see live than a well played, hard hitting hockey game.
  10. Aside from all the stupidity on this page, Illinois probably wouldn't have won today with the way they played, but they don't get blown out of the gym if both teams shoot a normal % from the field.

  12. Nothing to see there. Except for the Illini again not getting home court from the refs. Plus they're playing like ass.
  13. When this team brings it, it as good or better than any Big Ten team perhaps, they're starting to figure that out. It's an amazing difference when you have offensive skill at more than 2 spots. I have faith that Weber will get these guys to continue to play better defense as the season finishes, and if he does, there's no reason they don't get into the tourney and have a decent shot at the second weekend.
  14. Jut select the stuff you pasted in and click the code button. It's really pretty easy.
  15. ETA: Sorry, couldn't read it the other way.
  16. Not going to lie....This makes me happy. Gives us a fighting chance on Saturday instead of no prayer. If they can pull it off, it's good win for the resume, Lucas or not.
  17. Is there any other place to get tickets beside Wrigleyville Rooftops? I'm looking for a group of 10-12 guys for a bachelor party on Saturday Memorial Day weekend. Any suggestions thoughts are welcome.
  18. And that's exactly what makes a 64/65 team bracket great. It actually means something to get into the tournament. It would be like if Harvard or Yale went from their current accepted number of students to a number 2 or 3 times that. Yeah, you still went there, but how diluted is your educational experience over what the people who got in and graduated with higher standards?
  19. Not a fan. There's still something special for a lot of teams just to get in the tourney, knowing thy have no chance to win it all. The layoff thing sucks too. You look at a conference like the Missouri Valley. Their tourney ends the Sunday before selection Sunday. They could move it back and stretch out their season, but they've been doing it this way fr a while, which allows them some extra exposure because they're playing a tourney during the last weekend of regular season games for the big boys. Don't like it for a bunch of reasons, most of which aren't really good arguments, but just my personal preference.
  20. I'm late to the party here, but do you remember the term they used to use when the Bulls would pressure the other team full court? Unleashing the dobermans. Could Toni Kukoc play defense? Not a chance. I think even bigger than the loss of rebounding was the loss of the ability those teams with Grant had to play pressure defense and just shut people down because they were so athletic at the 2, 3, and 4 spots. Plus, he was the toughness down low on that team. Cartwright, Perdue, Longley, Wennington, Stacey King, and whoever else they sent out there just didn't bring the same energy or toughness as Grant. And regardless of your argument, Jordan was not the same guy while he was wearing 45 as he was when he came back after having an off season to get ready for the 95-96 season. That wasn't why they lost, but he wasn't his old self until the next season.
  21. Would it be fair to say that Rose not being 100% had a lot to do with the slow start? It's beginning to appear he truly is THE guy that makes this team go as well as he's played lately.
  22. They're friends. It was an inside joke. He's still an enormous turd. And a cheater.
  23. Anybody see Calipari's interview with John Buccigross on ESPN? I heard a clip of it this morning and he called Buccigross a jag bag on national television. What an enormous turd.
  24. He also wanting a 4-5 year deal last offseason, coming off of wrist surgery. Now he was pretty much completely healthy this last year so he could still be asking for a 3-4 year deal as well. He's also a Type A free agent FWIW, even though we're pick #16, it is a protected pick. So we'd only lose the 2nd rounder. I thought just the top 15 picks were protected?
  25. It seems to get worse every year. Or at the very least, a whole lot less consistent. I mean, if one team is drawing blood on defense and not getting called for it, at least let the other team do the same. It seems I've watch a number of games this year where a guy gets destroyed going to the hole with no call on one end and then a hand check 40 feet from the basket gets called on the next possession on the other end of the court.
