    He hasn't been with the team in months since his wife has a serious brain tumor(as if there's any other kind). I'd have to say it's a longshot he returns to St. Louis. Was that his evil twin making mound visits the other night? He's been with the team on and off while that's been going on.

    Dewitt was on the radio down here a few weeks ago and said pretty flat out that the Cardinals didn't make any significant amount of money off of the playoffs unless they went 7 games of the World Series. That being said, I'm sure they made money, but not anything significant enough to pay Pujols any more than they already could. Now, whether he was telling the truth or not is an entirely different story. Interesting side note, I was told that they were selling the empty champagne bottle from the NLCS celebration in the team store at the stadium. WTF?

    Yes, this. You're getting a much better WAR:$ value by doing it shorter and with a higher AAV. And in the years you would have had him at 1B (7-10), you can get somebody different for cheaper/the same money and get a more accurate value for them.

    Pujols for 6/$200M? I'm in. The one reason I don't want him is the absurdity of giving a guy a 10 year contract that starts in his age 32 season. If you can be done with him at the end of his age 37 season? Awesome, even if the AAV is a bit ridiculous. He'll probably be worth, or close, it until maybe the last year of the deal.

    Apparently now the strike zone is ankles to neck and from one edge of the batter's box to the other.

    It would be awesome if Harrison wasn't so afraid to throw strikes that he goes to a 3-2 count on every hitter and then throws a meatball that gets just drilled. And it certainly appears that Carpenter has found a groove and the Rangers hitters are starting to feel the pressure at this point. They're lunging and swinging for the fences and Carp keeps flipping curve balls up there for them to wave at.

    So, living in St. Louis and watching TLR up close for a few years now, I really think the thing he does better than anybody else is have his coaching staff and players ready for any situation. I don't have any idea of the details of what he does, but they always seem to have a plan for whatever comes up. While I think he's a gigantic ass in general, there's no question, all the strange I'm smarter than you moves aside, that he has done a fantastic job as a manager. I think, with Sandberg, you might be getting the same type of guy. If Theo can imprint upon him the type of baseball that they want to play and he can execute that along with getting everybody ready for whatever the situation might be, he could be successful. Is he the ideal candidate? Probably not, but other than getting a guy like Maddon who we've all seen be successful as a ML manager already, is he really worse than any of the alternatives? I'm really kind of neutral on whether or not I want him, but if Theo sits down with him and decides it's a good idea, I don't really have a huge problem with it.

    After the fiasco that Daisuke became, I'll be a bit surprised if the posting fee for Darvish is even equal to what his was. If it gets into that range, not a chance I'm interested. Also, I think your estimation of what it will take to get Wilson is high. I don't think it's going to be any more than $100 million total and you're proposing $130-140 if I read that right.

    It seems all Cardinal fans feel the need to try and slam cub fans more than just enjoy their world series runs. Sad group of people. This describes my entire office, and the STL area in general. It just doesnt make any sense. Are White Sox fans like this? Yep, everybody in my office was way more interested in trash talking to me than being celebratory about the win. The only thing I've said is how great the game was and how unfortunate it was the Rangers didn't win. If I was half the douche about it that most of these people tend to be, I'd get stoned in the streets for it. I didn't hate the Cardinals 10 years ago nearly as much as I do now after living down here amongst their fans and their idiocy.

    Well not the best news after I looked it up. Since 1979, teams that go into game 6 up 3-2 and LOSE, are 1-8 in game 7's. Anyone triva buffs remember who got the only W? The good news is, in all World Series since the beginning, the game 6 loser is 17-18 in game 7. Here is a breakdown by year: 1979-2011: 1-8 1955-1978: 11-3 1901-1954: 5-7 If you include all MLB game 7's (including the LCS), the loser of game 6 is 22-27 in game 7's, and 6-17 since 1979. Breakdown of the LCS: Overall 5-9 ALCS 2-4 NLCS 3-5 Reds against the Red Sox in 1975 after the Fisk game.

    In this simplified example it does, but this is just an "average" dollar figure per WAR. Like Kyle said, it's certainly not linear in real life because the number of players who even get to 4, 5, or 6 WAR are so few and far between.

    This would make me very happy. I wonder if they'd move the playoffs back, if there would be less off days or if they'd pretty much say f the preseason. I'd bet it's a combination of all three. A week or so of preseason/training camps, more back to backs and then knock the playoffs back a week or so. When was the regular season supposed to start?

    I really don't think you can say that he wouldn't ascribe to small ball at this level. Why would he suddenly change his baseball philosophy upon getting a big league managing job? Not that I necessarily think he would, but a pretty simple thought on that would be that he was doing as he was told at the minor league level and trying to teach guys fundamentals when it doesn't necessarily matter if you win every game. All those things that everybody wants players to do when they get to the majors, they had to learn somewhere, and that may result in a little more small ball being played in the minors so they learn how to do that stuff.

    what the hell does that mean? Probably that there's enough money to get big bats in the lineup that it's harder for a manager to screw it up too often by micromanaging because there's a bunch of runs being scored in spite of the meddling.

    B&B are talking to somebody (Schuster?) and he asked Theo if he looked at FIP and xFIP to evaluate pitchers. Apparently Theo kind of gave him a dismissive "We have our own proprietary stuff for that", which I find both awesome and insane that he has his own method of evaluating pitchers. Our guy is smarter than everybody else and it's [expletive] awesome!

    I know he's kind of an off the radar type of guy, but what kind of ceiling does he have? Just ran across his minor league stats, and while he's getting to be a bit old for a legit prospect, his numbers have been really good outside of 2010 in the FSL. He does strike out a decent amount, but the OBP is good and so is the power. Is he destined to be a 4A guy or can he be a decent contributor at a corner OF spot in the next few years?

    Kemp and Fielder please! If they can do that over the next 2 years, keep Aram (for 2 years plus an option maybe) and get a couple of arms on board, this team will be plenty competitive, especially once guys like McNutt, B Jackson, Whitenack, Rhee, Szczur, and Struck start giving you ML production (hopefully).
