  1. Wow, that's freaking amazing! It's amazing how fast he is in person.
  2. At least he's not taking it to the field with him. That diving stop in the hole and throw was amazing.
  3. I'm glad you had the patience and took the time to wade through that monstrosity. I would have had a stroke attempting to decipher and refute that amount of absolute nonsense. There may have been a heroin in the forehead moment in there as well.
  4. Awesome that the player gets suspended for throwing the helmet and the ump gets no consequence for being completely terrible at his job. There was just a blurb on SportsCenter about this where they said that umpires and executives are upset that Lawrie didn't get more than 4 games. Is there any recourse for the player or the union against the ump that caused the whole situation by being awful at his job?
  5. Because bullpen performance has such a huge year to year variance in many cases and in his example, the pen is the issue. A 20 loss-variance? That's probably the extreme, but considering the pen has already given away 4-5 games in the first month and a half of the season, not completely out of the realm of possibilities.

  7. Because a 100-loss team is probably significantly worse than an 80-loss team and would require more money/trades/work to improve. In some cases, yes. But one of the biggest problems this team has is an absolutely awful bullpen, which is something that can be turned around pretty quickly. Assuming Garza and Shark are still here and performing well, Maholm and/or Wood aren't awful, you get Rizzo up and add another piece or two in the off season and you're getting close to or actually contending.
  8. When did they start allowing weekend night games?
  9. I was unfortunately driving home from Memphis during the game yesterday and finally got to watch his final appearance. I got a little choked up. Definitely my favorite Cubs player of "my" generation. He's a year younger than me and it just completely sucks that his body couldn't hold up to let all the talent show. That 20K game is easily the most unbelievable performance I've ever seen. The break on that curve was just cartoonish.
  10. And honestly, as many good surprises as there have been, there have been just as many disappointments. Soto, Barney, and Volstad all being much worse than expected, Marmol forgetting what the strike zone looks like, Kerry not being very good, and Soriano not bouncing back as hoped. Far from everything has gone right and I'm really not all that disappointed in how the season has gone thus far.

  12. So, the amazing viewpoint I had from the 2ND FREAKING ROW!!!!! had me absolutely amazed at how fast Campana is. He's fast on TV, but holy isht is he fast in person. That routine ground ball to 2nd in the 1st inning really looked like he was safe he got down the line so fast. Great game other than the bed crapping inning, which I fortunately missed most of while in the Build-a-Bear shop.
  13. Thank you kindly good sir! Nothing like spoiling a 4 yr old for her first ever baseball game!
  14. If he's been moved there to see if he can be effective out of the pen, I'm fine with that. His less than stellar results as a starter warrant a look in the pen and as bad and hurt as the ML pen is, no reason not to give him a shot.
  15. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed his rather large posterior!
  16. Is that what you mean by "SWING THE [expletive] BAT"?
  17. I continue to be truly amazed at how many hard hit balls the infield gets hit right at them. This defensive positioning stuff is either completely amazing or they've just been unbelievably lucky so far.
  18. Is Mather at 3B and Baker in RF actually a better defensive alignment? Do you mean Baker at 3rd and Mather in right? I'm surprised it isn't that way. I thought Baker was the better/more experienced guy in the infield.
  19. No, he was a douche, he just did it quietly and it got overlooked because he was so good at baseball. He's really kind of an ass and has proven it on multiple occasions. Examples? Refusal to sign any autograph unless it's for money for one. There's been a lot of stuff that has rubbed media types (rational ones, not the PC police types) the wrong way over the years. Like SSR said though, he's a professional athlete. I don't think he's some awful human being, he's just not the classy type he wants you to think he is.

  21. Those were all dumb, but I kind of agree with this one. Note that I said kind of before you destroy me.
  22. Hasn't Noah only missed 1 game, or do you mean Rose? Noah got hurt during Game 3.
  23. well his knee is blown out. can a guy really pitch with a torn acl? if he undergoes surgery his season is definitely over. he'd be 43 next year. the question isn't really if he's still good enough, because he definitely is and probably could go until he's 50, but it sounded like this might be his last year. In my defense, the post above mine went up while I was typing so I didn't know he'd been diagnosed with the torn ACL. And no, there's no way you could pitch with a torn ACL. That ligament stabilizes your knee when you're making any kind of lateral movement, so he would probably fall down every time he tried to push off the rubber.
  24. I don't know how Cespedes 4/36 contract will end up looking in the long run, but the 3/21 contract to Josh Willingham is looking pretty good. He's at .305/.418/.598 thus far. He might not keep up that pace, but he's pretty much always been a mid .800s OPS guy and his D is pretty much on par with Sorianos. How is that relevant to the Cubs in any way?
