  1. Don't the DBacks have some money issues? That's a huge contract to take on. Did Lee get any no trade protection in his deal?
  2. I'm hearing the same thing from a guy I know who works for the Cubs, so that sounds like a pretty highly likely scenario. You have a guy you know who works for the Cubs that has info like this and you've been holding out on us? Not holding out exactly. The information I get is intermittent at best. If I have something I'll pass it along, it just doesn't happen too often what with all their tight lippedness these days.

  4. I'm pretty sure his deal is done at the end of this year. He signed for 6/$100 the same year Soriano signed for 8/$138 right?
  5. Based on the game I was at, I think he's got a much better shot at sticking at SS than most of the experts seem to be giving him. He has good instincts, soft hands, and a rocket arm. Unless he really does grow a lot, I think he at least starts his ML career at SS.
  6. Somebody set me straight here. I am under the impression that if we offer Dempster the $12.5 million and he declines, then goes and signs with another team, they lose a pick but we don't get anything in return. Do we actually get that pick like we did under the old CBA?
  7. I get that you prefer natural food, but it's faulty to deem anything not natural as being automatically bad for people. It's not that they're all that bad, they've just become so prevalent in everything we eat that it's becoming a huge issue. All of the preservatives, not to mention high fructose corn syrup being in all kinds of crap it has no business being in, just can't possibly be okay to consume in the quantities most Americans do. It's why there's so many fat people out there (okay, one of the many reasons). And don't even get me started on how awful I think (based on some reading) genetically modified food is for us. I wish I had the time, energy, and space to have a huge garden full of stuff I knew exactly where it was coming from and how it was grown.
  8. As big of dbags as the Cards announcing crew can be, they just showed a clip of the Cubs clicking their heels in honor of Ronny as they came onto the field today. Pretty cool way to show some love for him if you ask me.
  9. It's my son's 5th birthday, and frankly, I'm more interested in hearing his thoughts on Dempster and Garza trade possibilities. My 4 yr old probably has a couple ideas she could throw in if you're interested! My four year old would trade the farm for Moustakas. Loves saying his name. Ha! Funny what they get fixated on. We were watching the British Open today and I think she's said Brant Snedeker about 400 times since this morning. Also, I hope he just got traded and not injured.

  11. Was that last night? I could have sworn I saw a few innings of that with a different announcing crew than either CWS or BOS broadcast on MLBN. Do they send their own crew to do those games? I caught a little of that game too. I think I remember Vasgersian being in the booth.
  12. That was a great play to pick that ball up and make the tag by Barney.
  13. It's a bit depressing that they've scored 2 runs or less in almost 1/3 of their games.
  14. Doesn't he reportedly have quick feet for a big guy? Move him to catcher! I'm mostly kidding.
  15. I'm pretty sure I saw that last scene at a strip club once! :hello:
  16. Probably several reasons. Schumaker is a left handed hitter, is a slightly above average CF, has better speed than Murton, has also shown the ability to not be awful at 2B, and is employed by an organization that has shown to be much smarter than the previous Cubs regime could ever have hoped to be. And Schumaker "hits .300" to appease the masses.
  17. Yeah, but they had/have nowhere near the capability to spend the cash that the Cubs do and turn things around pretty quickly.
  18. allowed? Allowed, good enough, whatever.
  19. Baez isn't sticking at SS. Should we move him too? Baez will eventually become too big for SS, Geiger is physically not able to field third base like a professional should(.884 fielding percentage, stiff movements, lack of range). There's a difference. We wouldn't put Vogelbach at 2B for a season just to prove that he can't handle it, similarly there's nothing wrong with being honest about Geiger not being able to handle an infield position that isn't 1B. While there's little doubt he will eventually be moved, he's barely played 100 professional games, and he's only played 28 this year. I think it would be worthwhile to let him try 3B for at least a full season, if nothing more than to be able to get into a normal routine and not have to learn new positions in the middle of the year. He's not going to stick, so I don't see any reason to keep him there unless they need somebody to play the spot at whatever level he happens to be at. Unless Baez does get a lot bigger, I don't see any reason he can't stick at SS. He appears to have very good instincts, soft hands, and a rocket arm. I'm basing this on seeing him just one time, but he made several plays that would lead me to believe he can handle the position long term.
  20. Definitely not based on what I saw last night. Two of the really good plays Baez made were because Geiger misplayed or didn't get to balls.
  21. He's throwing strikes. I only remember one 3 ball count so far and only a couple hard hit balls. Got two dribblers back to the mound in the 6th that he handled easily. He's got some filling out to do too. Just has that look of a guy who will add some muscle as he matures. Any velo readings? Nope, the gun was off. He appeared to be throwing pretty hard. Suarez looked like he threw the hardest of the 3 Chiefs pitchers, Peralta next and then Wang. Wang had some nasty, really late break on whatever he was throwing. Hard to tell if it was a slider or a splitter from where I was sitting. Suarez looked really good tonight.

  23. Baez with 2 more nice plays at short. One in the hole on a ball Geiger should have gotten to and didn't and the other on a sharply hit ball back up the middle. Chen with 2 solidly hit balls so far. One right at the 2B and the other for a single between short and third.
  24. Ok, I'm in love with Baez. Geiger just got crossed up by a runner going in front of him and booted a ball. Baez backed him up, grabbed it in shallow left and gunned the guy at home very easily. Guy has a cannon. He flied out to right on the first pith of his second AB.
  25. Devoss with 2 walks in 2 PA. Balaguert looked awful swinging at one up in his eyes and one that bounced a foot in front of the plate for strikes 2 and 3. Baez made a nice play in the first on a high hopper that took a funny bounce. Waited on it and then showed off the arm. Geiger just drilled one into the gap that the RF made a solid play on. Nothing impressive from Easterling yet, well other than the physique of course. ;-)
